thank you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

im at the process of tweaking the settings of the fire before i upload an updated version of cannon FX, after all the fires are result of cannon fire so it does belong with cannonFX <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

righto Updated version of Mercliess Cannon FX 2.0 is up now on the FTP <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Man, that fire looks really really great. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Now that's some damned fine fire!

Talk about a burning sea, eh, pirates. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Once again, mighty fine work there MM. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Thank you peeps, now, before i proceed on the next phase of Cannon FX i need everyones opinion

should i remove the black smoke from destroyed guns and hits?

I am planning on replacing those hits with a very transperant white/grey smoke cloud, why? because its realistic, and thats the idea behind cannon FX, when a ship gets hit you dont see a massive black cloud of smoke, you see wood splinter spray and a very small puff of smoke(from the small wood particles and stuff thats released at the strike)

Sounds good in principle. I'll always welcome anything that increases realism. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> Looking forward to seeing what you've got in store for us.

i think its a good idea, but, what about when the fire eventually reaches the gunpowder magazine?
i think a really big bang, huge fire and enormous cloud of smoke should follow its destruction.
but, thats just my idea.
anyway i think you should go for it. white smoke here we come!

Its amazing how iscolated the gunpowder room in a ship is. I read up on the one in the HMS Rose and its like the chances of gettin in there are 1 in 200. For an sailor i mean.

i've actually seen how isolated it is!
i went on a trip to Hartlepool to have a tour onboard the HMS Trincomalee on my last visit to England.
it was incredable how isolated it was [right in the center of the ship!], but everything can be got to with the right tool or, in this case, force.
Imagine a 32 pound solid steel ball travelling at over 100 miles an hour hitting the side of 5-8 inches of oak, teak or other woods. then multiply that by 100, and you would end up with the result of a MOWs Broadside on a ship like HMS Rose or HMS Trincomalle.
i'm sure that with that kind of force the copper-plated gunpowder store room would look more like swiss cheese <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />!

All right i want the experts opinion

I have come to the conclusion that a cannon ball would not be able to set off the gunpowder magazine, a solid shot that is. Therefor im planning on turning off the "critical hit" compleatly on the cannon ball and leave it only on the bombs.

whats everyone else opinion on this?

All right guys, the Merciless Cannon FX 3.0 release is out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Tecnhically speaking its version 2.9, im still working on it but this is a beta of 3.0, by the next release i hope to have modified alot of things pertaining to the cannon ball damage, as well as implement new damage textures for the hull.

Well, first of all, bombs were banned from game because they are completely unrealistic. If you put on the USE_REAL_CANNONS on, then say goodbye to bombs

Second, the fires in a battle were caused not by the shells, shots, bombs, powder kegs, etc... but for the lights inside the compartments, and the matchs for the cannons falling and catching fire remmants of gunpowder, or clothes, or whatever of the others thousand comburent things that a ship contains

So, my vote against

Good vibrations <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

same here
i wouldn't want to see critical hits removed, because even though the solid shot wasn't burning, penetrating the gunpowder store room would cause sparks as the cannon ball tore through the copper plating.
even if those sparks were'nt enough to ignite the powder, the cannon balls were moving at very high speeds out of cannons and were very hot, so could possibly light the powder if it slowed down enough to stop in the gunpowder store room.
even if none of those possiblities were true, i would still prefer to have critical hits left in game. it adds a bit more fun to see a really big boom from a critical hit every now and then.
