Fire!!!

Why isn't it possible to re-create the "explosion"? .. I mean, you did a hell of a good job with the fire, and the explosion is now nothing more than a red cloud of smoke. Maybe you can replace the "cloud" with a same texture as the fire only making it pop out (like an explosion) or whatever... I think it's easier said then done :p .. but anyway great job so far! I hope you can succeed with this <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I cant track down the cause, but whenever i board a ship i have debris and men raining down from the sky above, havent managed to figure why it does that yet

The file is on the FTP. You can use <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/downloads/ftp_commander.zip" target="_blank">this</a> program to get to the FTP. The PA! FTP is already defined there, so you just need to double-click it. The file is "Merciless's_cannonFx-2.91.zip". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

P.S. nothing on that missin Ditty uhh??....damn and double damn

Work is proceeding on version 2.92

the standard explosions have been replaced, to get an idea of what they look like then find some old screenshots of Sea Dogs 2 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
Ive also trimmed down the size a bit on the splinters to a fairly more real scale, allthou i wish i could set a particle system to use several images instead of just one, if anyone knows if this is possible and how then plz enlighten me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> because as of the moment the splinters uses one particle system for each type of splinter

Is it used in any film? I have a lot of film music (including from several pirate films) and have some sources to get more. I don't have that particular song though.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Work is proceeding on version 2.92<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

is that version on the ftp? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Version 2.91 is on the FTP, Merciless Mark is now working on version 2.92, which hasn't been released yet.

And i think ive made some intreasting changes, the chance of a critical hit has been set up from 1 in 30 or whatever it was to 1 in 1000, however, the effects of a critical hit is now much more serious, for small weak hulled ships its a disaster, im not 100% shure of what the damage rate is at, its hard to tell atm and highly experimental, so when i get 2.92 done i want to know if the damage needs tweaking or not in your humble opinions <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Ye can be buyin' a CD wif it on from The Corsairs at this 'ere link matey: <a href="http://www.corsairs.com/piratebooty.htm" target="_blank">The Corsairs</a>
Ye can download a sample of the ditty (first verse only)...but to my ears they aren't drunk enuff to be pirates singing. Sound like bleedin' choir boys...

I have been playtesting the game a bit and found the effects to look very nice indeed. I did encounter some things you might want to have a look at:
- I was sailing the HMS Surprise (original version) at the time and the "holes"/blots appeared on the hull on one side, while the enemy ships were sailing on the other side. Did the cannon balls decide to suddenly come from the other side? Seems like a similar problem to the lightning problem on your modified Surprise, except that this wasn't the modified Surprise. Not sure if this happens regularly though.
- When firing on the enemy vessels, the explosions that are caused were the weird red... things like usual, instead of improved explosions. I thought you had improved those. It might have been the explosions caused by cannons exploding though. Not sure if you changed those.
- I set an enemy Xebec on fire, but the fire kept trailing behind the ship as if she had a tail. That looked pretty odd. The fire itself did look nice though.
- Also weird (though not caused by your mod): Why do the fires on enemy ships tend to start somewhere at the very stern of the ship, instead of somewhere in the middle?
- I haven't caught any splinters flying about yet. I'll keep a look-out for those.

Anyway: Nice job on this mod! It's certainly much better than it used to be. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

The improved explosions were done after the 2.91 release, so in the next pack you will see them.

Cannon balls sometime seem to punch straight trough the ship works normal for me, but i once had the railing perforated right trough, from port to starboard, holes on all sides of each railing in the line of the ball <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

The trailing fire isnt really a result of my tinkering its something default and i beleive it might have something to do with the locators.

Splinters are more easily seen if your ship gets hit and your on deck mode, since their not the worlds biggest ones <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Sorry to interrupt, but Long John, here's a few links you might want to see;
Fifteen Men (see the link under the music sheet <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> )
<a href="http://www.biostat.wustl.edu/~erich/music/songs/derelict.html" target="_blank">http://www.biostat.wustl.edu/~erich/music/...s/derelict.html</a>
This one sounds slightly better, but both of them are kind of lame, the link's about a third of the way down <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />
<a href="http://www.meritagejazz.com/" target="_blank">http://www.meritagejazz.com/</a>
This isn't fifteen men, but I thought it was kind of nice,
<a href="http://www.contemplator.com/sea/pirate.html" target="_blank">http://www.contemplator.com/sea/pirate.html</a>
Hope these help. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Back on topic, Pieter, when you were testing this, did you get to see any flying men? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />

I think the splinter feature is a great addition considering what a devastating effect that could have on naval engagements.

I also think that I've seen the trailing fire in my game once or twice, and that's still Build 12. No idea what could cause that, but on the other hand, I don't recall ever seeing a fire occur anywhere but mid ship. What kind of ship was it that you saw this on? I'm thinking that, like a walk file for the lo-men, maybe fire needs something similar to direct it where to occur depending on the ship and maybe some of the ships didn't get specific directions. Just a theory! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />
