Fire!!!

Well I be thankin all yew fine gentermen ere about these parts, with yew'm suggestions as tew my ditty request.....after extensive field work I came upon a little gem, an wondered if'n it might spruce up them thar slow nights at the local taverns...but the forum wont let me upload it ere, I tried.....but might be able tew put it on the FTP site for anyone that wants it. It is a sea shanty with sort of story line to it, with the song be sung by I suppose Billy "The Captain" Bones at the Benbow Inn....the original Ditty from the 1934 Treasure Island seems tew be lost to history, least the movie is only left in collections

P.S. I posted some stuff on the other thread about the fire mod, supposed it should have been brought here, instead....thar be other files in that Lo_Man Folder that are not being used in the Particles folder, like that Lo_Man one we can add for flyin bodies in explosions.....wonder what the others do.....if they were added tew the Particles folder as well....??

Back on topic, Pieter, when you were testing this, did you get to see any flying men? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Aye, I've seen the flying crew members. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I haven't caught crewmembers flying yet either, but I only tested for about an hour or so. Not more anyway. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I know. I've seen the code. I just haven't seen them fly yet. But what can you see within one single hour? Not much. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Hello thar Mateys, I was doin some thinkin, when I went tew look into Merciless Mark's wonderful Fire Mod 2.91......I could not help but notice that he set that particles.ini file to read [file = lowcharacters\lo_man] after that GEO setting. Now in another thread in this Moding forum, SirChristopherMing and Petros...had this conversation, and they were relying on an earlier quote from NK....but it seems it was wrong, and they determined that it should read just {file = lo_man} to enable. Now I don't pretend to know about this stuff, but what if Mark is disabling it by useing this quote by Nathan like they were originally

Not in the game? Maybe it was thought to be too violent and not implemented. However, that is easily remedied, I did a search and found where Skull reported Maximus' discovery, and here are the steps needed to add it to the game: (Before changing any files it is always a good idea to make a back up copy of them in case anything goes wrong....)

Thanks for this info!

QUOTE

3. Then go to, Bethesda Softworks\Pirates of the Caribbean\RESOURCE\INI and find particles.ini. Open this file and scroll down, a little past halfway, until you see the following;

[geo]
randomnum = 2
file = palka01
file = palka02
file = palka03
file = palka04
file = palka05

4. Underneath, file = palka05, type, file = LowCharactersLo_man , ...

Shouldn't that read "file = lo_man"?

Also I noticed that this file already contained "file = lo_man"
It seams that the build does not use this file but the other one in
\Pirates of the Caribbean\RESOURCE\INI\PARTICLES\particles.ini which doesn't have any of the references to palka01 -5 files at all.

Petros,
I got the line, file = LowCharactersLo_man, from Nathan, see this thread;
<a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?sho...l=flying+bodies" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?sho...l=flying+bodies</a>
, see around page three, but I seem to recall setting it the way you suggest above as well. Let me double check my files on my "other" computer and try to figure what I've got. It works, as I said intermittently, so let me see what the line is in a game where it's working. (It may work either way... ) Thanks!

Regarding the 2nd or third particle.ini having no "palka" lines in your copy, that's weird, but probably is an indication to the amount of coding that has gone on in this game. I was always mystified as to why there were two files with identical names, but I imagine that one of the files just doesn't get used. Being uncertain regarding which one does get used, I just updated both of them. (Blatant attempt to bully the code! )

Edited 3/29/06:
Ok, I checked the files on the computer that has the game and I have, "file = Lo_man", so I changed it to, "file = LowCharacters\Lo_man", to test it and that turns the feature off, (Kind of obvious now that I look at it. ) Petros is right, the line should read, "file = Lo_man". Thanks Petros, don't want to spread misinformation, just chaos and mayhem.

This feature can be added without a restart, so if you change the files the effect will show up in an existing save, so if Pieter wants to make the change for the Build 13 version that's being worked on, you don't have to wait to download it to activate this feature, just change the files yourself.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I have just tested this mod some more by provoking the French squadron guarding Oxbay. I got to see some of the new effects quite quickly that way. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
Anyway: I've caught splinters flying about, as well as flying crewmembers. No additional bugs to report. Seems to work GREAT! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

my method is right and it works. and i didnt copy or qoute out anything, i manually entered the lo_man line

Ok this is just downright creepy, i just got the movie master and commander today and i had no idea that my cannonFX was so downright real, the way fire spills out of the barrels along with the smoke <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Update!

CannonFX 2.91 Beta is now avaible for download from the FTP <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Be advised, this is a Beta of 2.91, i decided to do a significant change to make the cannon smoke even more realistic, so i have no idea how well this will run on lower end systems, please adivse me if there is Too much decrease in performance with this version.

This sounds very interesting i will like to give a try whem i can get chance to. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Do you have a picture shot of new version to show here?
again is good work! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

This sounds nice. Looking forward to adding it to my game to test. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Again, pics and vids dont do the mod Justice, you need to play it to really get the full of it, nevertheless....

<a href="http://www.hibiscus-sinensis.com/alexraptor/cannon_fire4.avi" target="_blank">Right Click and Save as</a>

If you want an even greater experience with CannonFX i recommend you download Merciless's_M&C_Cannons_1.0 from the ftp <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

2.92 full has been released, get it off the FTP as usual <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Its a major improvement since 2.0 or even 2.91 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

And here!, are a few screenies that actually does the cannon mod justice <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<img src="http://www.hibiscus-sinensis.com/alexraptor/potcflash1.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
<img src="http://www.hibiscus-sinensis.com/alexraptor/potcflash2.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
<img src="http://www.hibiscus-sinensis.com/alexraptor/potcflash3.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

"Pirates of the Burning Sea" better watch out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
In fact i dare say that my cannon flames themselves are far superior to that of PotBS
Why? because juding from their screenshots and vids they use a single image wich they manipulate, but my flames are compleatly particle, allowing them to react with a while not compleatly but a bit more realistic touch, the way the flames lick out of the guns, if i could just have some random textures or animated textures i could bring the flashes to a compleatly new level of realism

I've been absent for a long time....but i must had that this is a nice piece of work man... one question..i looked for it in the FTP, but i saw nothing of the likes of this file.... am i looking in the wrong place??

is this mod already compatible with de Post buil of 5th march?

a Bit off topic...Anyone knows the release date for AOP???
and if the models from AOP can be imported to POTC???

look for Merciless CannonFX 2.92, and make shure your not looking at the old FTP.

this mod was developed on top of post build, and will be included in as part of the next post build.

Note: The old FTP was at ftp.piratesahoy.net, the new one is at ftp.piratesahoy.org.

AoP models can be added to PotC. I have several character and ship models from AoP in my PotC game.

Now that I see those stunning screenshots, I really think I should add a screenshots page to my site with shots of things improved in the Post Build 12 mods!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />
