First attempts in skinning

Can you please make them seperate models (by copying an existing ship folder and changing it into your new model, then HEX editing the model to change the texture filename, so it doesn't overwrite anything) and add your ships_init.c file with the additional entry for the new ship on the FTP as well? That would make adding them into the modpack much easier for me. With the amount of ship models being released lately, I am having a seriously hard time with it... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
I know it would be a nice thing if i could add all those skins with supplementary ships, but, the only thing i know a few is skinning :X, and more over with only one soft, i'll make tests with my next skin to see if i can make a separate reskinned ship but i can't promise you anything, i'm quite noob ^^'
 
You always wrote 'From France (yes, yes I know)' To be honest, I dont like most of the french people I met in real life, but you are a talented modder, Im sure, youre a great lad.

Interesting, but in fact, in the POTC when Im onshore In Falais De Fleur, the french people, and the french soldiers, and officers talk as true polite gentlemen, while my most propered nation in the game, the english, always rude, and sometimes dumb in the POTC.
At least the military men. But I really respect the true english captains, and navy also.

Im sure, that nationality wasnt matter anyway, If U meet a good lad.
So, I really like your work, and im sure, that we could be proud to such frenchmen.

(that was at the beginning a joke, i like self-derision <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />, but much thanks anymay <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> i'm happy to know that my work is useful to people and appreciated) My little abilities in skinning came quite quickly, i had the luck to find a graphic improve tool that i understood, a miracle <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />, i had quite idea and was looking forward updates for the build mod since a few weeks ^^.

A quite funny thing is that the things beetween the french and the english versions has been inverted, in the french version, soldiers are dumb, rude and unpolite (the traders are good lads) wether the english soldiers are polite ^^ (Maybe the reason why in potc i'm actually working for the royal navy, i really like the navy outfits and the black and yellow battleship skins, when they're improved <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />)

I've had a little experience with building zips/ rar files for skins for Falcon 4.0 that put all the files in the right place. If I get a chance over the next few days I'll try and make one for the ships added since post build 12.
and when I've got it working I'll put it on the ftp.

@Seb, I'll have a look at how Petros and Captain Hawk have put their ships in game as separate models and see if I can work out how to do it with yours.
I'm new to this too, so it may take some time, but I'll have a crack.
 
It's reasonably easy to add ships as new models. You should just make a copy of the old model, then change the texture filename in the model using a HEX Editor (I can explain that if you want). Then you need to copy the original ship's entry in PROGRAM\Ships\ships_init.c and change some of the variables. And finally add the ship to RESOURCE\INI\English\common.ini. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Is there an idiots guide to changing the texture file name knocking around anywhere or is it as easy as 'save as "new name"?
Think I'm going to have to do a bit of homework before I get the skins to appear as separate new ships, but I'm working on it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />
The ships that have appeared as new models ie. whitewaller frigate, sloop of war etc. have been no problem.

I think i'll be a little short of time this week end so my work frequence will slow down, but to answer you Nelson, now that we have the fearlesses and the battleships reskinned i plan to reskin lineships <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> afterwards i'll see what i can do with the green and white manowar i think. I'm very admirative of the work you are doing to add those as separate ship, once i'll have more time, i'll try it to understand how to do for later skins to make the things better, faster and nicer <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />


Those days, I reskinned Inzane's surprise, but just for myself, because it is his own and great creation, he is the legitimate master on it, as all of that his said in his readme and i think he would'n like anybody to release mods for it without his approbation <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The first ship I'm trying is Seb's improved battleship skin.
I'm going to call it black and yellow battleship (or something like that.)
So have changed the name of the tga file etc. Do I need to change the name of the ship.gm too or do I leave it as battleship 3_44???

Will be trying to add all the new skins that have come out as separate models. I take it I also have to change the names of all the other .gm files in that particular ship folder.

Yes, you do need to change all those names to the exact same name as the folder has. I once made the mistake of not doing that. The game was not pleased: CTD.

nevermind, i remembered you mentioned Crash to Desktop in its full form on another topic, and i put 2 and 2 together and figured it out after i sent that post.
