Mod Release Gentelmen of Fortune! v1.2 Full Release Patch 1.0 FAQ/Bugs/Installing

Great mod, really enjoying it.

A few questions, though... There seems to be a huge number of english characters, but barely a handful of French ones. How is that fair?

Also, is there any way to make the sound clips from Master and Commander optional, as I find them hugely annoying after they are played for the 20th time in a battle (the beat to quarters one is waaaay too long as well). Thanks!

[BUG]
2) "The Captive Groom" quest: No captain on the ship in question, quest can't be completed.
Goes from boarding screen straight to the plunder screen, without the captains quarters.
That's not necessarily a bug since sometimes the person you must free is simply killed whithout your doing, not sure if it's time related (how fast you find the pirate in question). the logbock should be updated with ... yaddy yaddy... got killed and mission couldn't be accomplished. I had that a couple of times too.

If we talk about the quest where you need to resque a captive and bring her/him back to the quest giver.
Nah, something's messed up there.
The log reads: "Captain's dead ...you've sent him off this mortal coil without talking to him first, he doesn't know why he died, wich was the major demand of the customer ...so much for revenge"
But there's no captain... and i thought the goal was to free a groom! Is this a mixump of two quests?

And now for something copletely different
I've managed to catch me a "Victory" class battleship.
The ship has a point of sail of 0.66. This thing goes exactly ONE way - where ever the wind blows.
Were pre-industrial bigships really such sitting ducks? They can't be used for anything! Not even siege works if the wind blows the wrong way...
I think the PoS of most of the tier 1-2 ships is way too low. (compare to tier 3 dutch manowar/warship or any other ship with exactly the same rigging)
I don't think that those old admirals had to circle the globe to fight in the east if the wind blew westwards...

When creating the roster for the game I tried to keep things balanced but you are correct, there are more English heros than French or Dutch, the Spanish come in second.

In the future, possible GoF! 2.0, we'll add one or two new characters, unfortunately these two will be English and Spanish.

hi. i reinstall the game and mod +1.1patch in safe mode and it works now but mod version doesnt change from 1.0>1.1 ?
and i still getting c++ runtime error when overwrite RPGUtlite.c file
please help!

hi. i reinstall the game and mod +1.1patch in safe mode and it works now but mod version doesnt change from 1.0>1.1 ?

It is ok. Version will show 1.0 even after applying 1.1.

and i still getting c++ runtime error when overwrite RPGUtlite.c file

Can you elaborate? Who is overwriting the file? The GOF 1.0 installer? The GOF 1.1 updater? The game itself doesn't overwrite "C" files.

- o -

If you are using Win 7 or Vista DO NOT install the game in "Program Files", use C:\AOP or any other folder not related with the Windows restricted areas.

Cheers.

BUG
I know that the quick travel in enemy towns is disabled that's okay but now for me it is disabled in every town also the friendly ones. how did that happen? Well I was at a governors quest "Breaking Rock" went to Santiago and the inquisition there I battled my way outside again and went to my ship made an escape and aimed for Tortuga at the pier there I hit Enter to bring up the quick travel icons but only the "change the rum" thing and "Exit" were available.

I saved and thought it's a one timer restart reload and its fixed... no it isn't BUG's still there. I went a save back before I entered the Inquisition and instaed of fighting I went to my ship and at my friendly port quick travel worked again but if I fight in Santiago and then go back to a friendly port Quick travel is simply not available.... strange thing.
:facepalm

Can upload savegame if you want to take a look.

[BUG]
The "enormous losses against harmless enemies" issue seems to be related to specific ships. The ship you have at that point.
My "De Zeven Provincien" has it, as does my "Soleil Royal". Although, whether it is a thing of the whole class, or just of the specific ship, i do not know.
Both ships are fairly rare and i didn't manage to get me a second one of either, at this point.
[EDIT]
Found out, what it is... it's not the ship
If you haven't got enough weapons for ALL of you men, it's gonna be a bloodbath.
Although one could think, that 300 men WITH weapons should be able to protect the other 400 against the 0 men on the enemy ship...
I still consider this a bug.
[EDIT2]
It's not entirely the weapons either.
I keep losing 100 out of 550 against empty ships.
Also those ships take way more damage through boarding operations than others do.

The quick solution to your problem is "do not use that file", probably you can live without Luke's fix.

But I'm intrigued, very intrigued.

When you are getting the error?

A) When you manually overwrite the file or
B ) When the game starts using that file?

If "B": at what point? When the game starts? When loading a save? When generating a new character?

Cheers.

Spectre

In my 3 games so far, I have the same exact problem and I never use big 2nd or 1th rates, just class 4 Black Pearls or any raider fast ship.

From my experience its not the weapons number that a player carries, even with a lot of weapons and medecines for your crew and after pelting gun fire, an enemy ship with 7 crew can take 100 of your crew just by boarding, ...crazy yes. :shrug

Crew quality and training dosen't seem to matter also. Some times even merchant ships without "marines" can make a serious dent in your well trained and drilled raider crew.

One improves and more cannon fire is needed, one just goes English and bet more on "range fighting". Sadly I love the Dutch way...boarding. :dance

B, when the game starts

That should not be happening, i haven't heard anyone else having this problem so it must be something at your end. if you are still getting these runtime errors i want you to completly uninstall COAS and delete all files and folders left behind after uninstaller has finished. Then reinstall COAS, then install GOF 1.0 followed by its patch 1.1 (make a backup of the RPG file). Now install the fix for pirate nations, it is a good idea to create a new folder on the desktop and call it anything (for me its modified games). When COAS has finished installing go into the game directory and copy everything to the new folder on the desktop and use this one as your moddied version leaving the vanilla files as they are in the main directory. It beats having to uninstall and reinstall all the time and can fix many problems if your os is Vista or Win7.

This mod looks pretty cool. But when I start a new game, it goes through the short 'tutorial', and I set up my character and do the fencing lesson, and then I say, "Alright, men, I'm going ashore!" Then nothing. It just sits there. I can run around the ship, but there's no way to get off.

Sounds like the Pirate nation bug, the quick fix is on the first page, first post of this thread. Just drop that file into your game folder and you'll be good to go.

I think we should do what we did with PoTC with this game too. A Build Mod for this game would be very enjoyable, considering that PoTC is a very old game and won't last forever. Anyway, nice mod.

Ahoy mateys,

I got myself a Lydia type 4 ship and used that as my main vessel and I have to say the game crashes more often with her in my squadron. Don't know what causes this but I guess something with the model just makes the game crash, since previously with my Indiaman + dutch escort ship I had a much more stable game. (I know there are reports about some class 4 ships causing issues but I felt the need to report that anyway)

Also the Lydia has no sounds for fireing her cannons, dunno if it's only me but I just like to add that to my report.

Cheers
Joe

Do you notice that it occurs when she loses a mast, or shortly after losing a mast?

Sorry can't point that out for sure. But I had 2 CTD (+ some more at random while in battle) when I think she was shortly before losing a mast though can't tell since the crash kicked me out before that could happen.

I would say I haven't lost a mast so the CTD occured before that could happen methinks.

You may see it or you may not. Sometimes it is a mast you are not looking at (one of your companions dismasted another ship or got dismasted) and sometimes you can't see it even looking at it: the game crashes before the animation starts showing.

If you can help us testing the issue we'll be obligued:

1) Crash from some battles till you are sure you are crashing more than before.
2) After you are sure you are crashing consistently, apply the hack for dismasting.

If the hack stops the crashes then there is another proof of the bug: the hack makes nothing but stopping the masts from falling.

Cheers.
