Released Heavy Sloop of War, 1797

Beautiful work, mate!
I'm assuming you've used my new RN, FR and US_Hull1 textures? They compliment the ship very well! :keith

One small thing I'd change is the edge of the planking UVs (visible in photos 32 and 33).
Isn't there usually a long beam which covers those planking edges? I think that might look better than leaving the edges exposed.

Even though the window pieces don’t show up, it can be seen in the wireframe http://www.flickr.co.../in/photostream that they are still there, and they appear completely normal when I put the gold decoration texture back on. Anyone seen this sort of thing before? :facepalm
Not to worry, I think that's just another example of a rendering glitch within Maya. It usually happens if using high resolution textures (up to 2048x2048).
Once exported, it should look perfectly normal in-game.

Thanks! And great minds think alike! :doff I fixed the planking edges just after I posted the pics, what do you think?

Good to hear about the texture! xD:

Thanks Post Captain! :cheeky While your right that there are very few if any blue painted bulwarks at the time, Blue paint was used fairly often. The blue for the bulwarks was actually inspired by this model of the uss president http://www.ageofsail.net/aospres2.asp and it was also fairly common in the RN

I agree about the lower masts, but ...thats alot easier said than done, I would have to seperate them from the rest of the masts and find a new texture to fit that description (I cant make new textures) so Im not sure it can be done. Same for the standing rigging, it would requre being split into a seperate object, and I would have to redo each rope...and there is no black rope texture that I know of. :?

Aye, that'll about do it. :onya

Both can be arranged without separating components, if you want. Which textures are you using?
One thing you could do is use a modified deck_constitution.tga for the masts, because that has two different colours. I can easily change them accordingly.
As for the ropes, I can just darken the texture you're using and send you the new version. ;)

I guess thats true, but Ill have to move around the UVs. I am using dek3 for both the deck and the masts and ropeU1 for the ropes :keith

Actually, what about this for the masts: I could modify dek3.tga to split the mast section at the top into two different colours- one for the masts proper and another for the upper sections.
That way, you'd only have to slightly modify the UVs, because you'd be using pretty much the same texture format.
How does that sound? :shrug

That would be perfect! much simpler :onya

OK then. Which alternate colours do you want for each ship, just so I know?

Well I think what Post captain said would work well; "a very light ochre (lighter than on the hull- see the replica Surprise as an example) or black would look good on the ochre scheme, white would look good on the black and white scheme, and black would look good on the red scheme."

Thanks Craiggo! Almost, Just waiting on a dark rope texture from Armada and revised versions of dek3.tga to give the lower masts of each nationality different colors. Then I will export her to .gm format! I'd imagine that you'll be fairly occupied with the Prince for the time being though. ;)

You got that right.

Whoa! I somehow completely missed your post there Armada :facepalm I checked the thread to remind you about them and there they were! I'll get those on the Volage ASAP. :onya In the meantime I also finished texturing the Revolutionnaire, so I'll post some screens of her with these textures after I get them on the volage. :keith

Oh yeah, I wondered why you hadn't replied yet. xD: Let me know how they look so I can modify them if need be.

I think they look pretty good, :doff here are some pics

Wonderful, as always... I think you got the shade of the standing rigging just about perfect. (weathered tar instead of fresh, as it should be) The only major flaw I could spot is still the t'gallantmast shrouds. (takes all the fun out of climbing up to the royal after it's set.) Other than that, I think you've phased all the rigging problems out.

Thanks! ah yeah, thats not so easy to fix as on the prince, I think im going to leave it as is for this ship and the Revolutionnaire

Glad you like the textures. I certainly agree they compliment the model very well. :cheers

Aye, and hopefully her sails and the water running by her sides can compliment those soon too. :keith
Just finished converting her files to gm format, and they check out right in the gm viewer

Craiggo- I'll get up a list of what textures go where for each version soon, and I'll also get the coordinates of the masts and spars up at the same time :onya
