Modding for COAS

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> fans of AOP, greetings from Germany
I have a few questions.
But first, i'm not very good in English writing, the English grammar and modding, so please forgive me the mistakes.
I've already played Supermod for CT and found it great <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

Here are my questions, if the answers are anywhere on the board, i could'nt find them.

<b>Is it possible to add NEW islands and nations to the game?</b>

<u>
With Islands i mean to make a "New World", just as an example a skull island.</u>
I want to enlarge the World Map, that feeling that i got, when i first played WoW, Morrowind and Sacred

"<i>Whoa, this is a really big World, lets go on an adventure! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> </i>" or "<i>Ooohhhh i dont know where i go first. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> </i>"
I know, these are just RPG, but they were great and you need a lot of tactic skills to play them really good.
(Just examples! Perhaps you have other games which you have tied up)

<u>
Nations, such as the rebels or revolutionary</u>,
I'm not good in history but I think it would be a game-depth feature.
They dont just have own Islands, overall in the World they are hiding, in the towns, on the island and maybe in the army or whatever, just like the smugglers.
This make the "Nation dependent quests" more interisting, here an example, again <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> .

Leader of the rebels against Spain: "The Spanish built a new colony on "IsleName".
We must take over this colony.
But their troops are too strong because they are very experienced fighter.
Our spies in the city have told us that the food supplies in less than a week would be exhausted
I want you, to destroy the supply ships of the Spanish army.
The time will crush the defense of the colony.
Then its our Turn."

<u>Tortuga is for me a pirate island. I want to change the nationality and maybe the name of Islands, is this possible?</u>
This whould be good if you wanna add a new island.

<b>
An improved nation war.</b>
<i>Not only you can take over colonies, but also the other nations.</i>
Here I would like to extend the issue of the quest example.
First, is this possible?
If so then let us discuss on this subject a little bit together.

<b>The towns and islands are boring.
</b>
<u>Often i want to go overall in the Town</u>, but there are invisible Walls <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
Isnt it possible to extend the walkable space in Towns and Islands?

<u>New textures and restructuring of Buildings?</u>
Also good if you wanna add a new island.

<b>Now some things to the Animations</b>

<u>It was even possible for the russian fans to add a swim mod in AOP CT.
There must be a possibility to jump!</u>

<u>Skelleton Crew</u>
In the first Movie of Pirates of the Carribean the crew of the Black Pearl where Skeletons in the shining moonlight , i know it whould be to hard to change the crew into skelletons every time when the moon shines, but if you be, a genuine pirate (plunder, rob, murder), then the crew would change forever, you are also, into skeletons.

These ideas and questions are only the beginning and they are still not very prepared but I think that would be just enough, for now <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> .

If someone just working on a mod I would be happy to participate, Im a noob in modding, but I learn quickly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/readon.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="readon.gif" /> and with a little help I could be a big help.

Greetings
TheNewGuy

i think it will take some time, most of the people in the usa and canada are just getting the game, but eventually anything that was possible in the supermod and potc mod should be doable in this engine since it is essentially the same engine with mostly graphics updates.

russian modders have already created some good mods for the game, and that official mod that is going to be patched in hopefully for all versions of the game looks like it will expand the nation building and town options greatly.

Oh that sounds great <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
Where did you read it?

on russian boards <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

mod thread on their forums and there is another with mods on the forums list there
<a href="http://translate.google.ru/translate?prev=hp&hl=ru&js=n&u=http%3A%2F%2Flegend.seaward.ru%2Fforum%2Findex.php%3Fshowtopic%3D8875&sl=ru&tl=en&history_state0=" target="_blank">http://translate.google.ru/translate?prev=...history_state0=</a>

and the mod patch for the game that they are going to release officially, just reamind to be seen if it gets translated into other languages and when.

<b>Possibility to add new islands:</b>
Probably can be done. The Russians managed it in their mods, though we never did it ourselves.

<b>Possibility to add new nations:</b>
We added the United States in the PotC Build mod.

<b>Tortuga:</b>
Tortuga was historically a French island where the governor was quite happy with there being pirates.

<b>Taking Over Nations:</b>
We've been doing a bit of brainstorming for that on PotC and it probably can be done, but it'd be COMPLICATED!

<b>Towns and islands are boring:</b>
Use the PotC town models. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

.....i never thought of trying that, just ploppin the potc towns into coas, darn you you are going to break my game yet.

The PotC town models are much superior to the AoP and CoAS ones from what I can tell.
AoP/CoAS towns are rather copy-paste kind of towns and the PotC ones are nicely unique. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

in fact they are, so its got me pondering, just wonder if it would cause issues with the owned houses and such like morgans and other important or quest worthy npcs. but hell i might try it later.

You'd have to make sure you can still access all houses from the towns. And you'd have to change all locator references in the various quests.
Might be quite a huge job. But worthwhile, I should think. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Um, a modding n00b here... do you guys have your own filehosting service or do I upload my creation (a music pack I cobbled together) to something like mediafire?

We've got our own FTP. See the log-in details here: <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=10288" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=10288</a>
It's originally dedicated to PotC, but you can use it for AoP/CoAS mods too.
Maybe maybe a subfolder "CoAS" though to make it clear what game it's for.

Cool, thank you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Edit: On second thought, rather not.

As you wish. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

To prevent CoAS players from reinventing the wheel all the time, I would recommend for everybody who can to check out the PotC Build mod, just to see what we did.
Then when you notice something you want to modify in CoAS too, post on the forum and with a bit of luck, one of our PotC modders can point you in the right direction.

Eh, it was just old Pirates! Gold music, basically the same thing you already did for Build, so as you say it would've been redundant.
I am using the music in my game, but I'm still having some trouble with the ini file (some entries appear to be mislabeled). If anyone's interested, the music can be downloaded here (in ogg format, minus title track which is unfortunately missing, for my game I used the one in the Build pack): <a href="http://www.exotica.org.uk/wiki/Pirates!_Gold_(CD³²)" target="_blank">http://www.exotica.org.uk/wiki/Pirates!_Gold_(CD³²)</a>

With "redundant" I mean "trying to figure out things that we already know from PotC". I don't mean actual mods being redundant. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />
Basically I'm suggesting we figure out a way to share our modding knowldge with the CoAS modders so they don't spend too much time
figuring out what we could've just told them if we'd have known they were trying to figure it out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
