New or Improved ships ...

Awesome! I can't wait for the new ships! BTW, what is the filename for the privateer? I've wanted to take a closer look at it in the GMViewer, but didn't see what file it is.

Aye, thats a mighty fine ship, for sure!

I've been attempting to learn a little about skinning, I've read the wiki about it, and played around with GIMP 2.2. How do you make the board lines for the ships? I can't seem to make the hull look good at all. I suppose I'll need alot more practice before I can make anything halfway decent.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Petros! Any news on that beautiful caravel you've been working on? I can't wait to take that beauty for a spin. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I have added Petros' new ships into the Build 13 Beta code files and they will be in the final Build 13. I also added all Kazeite's improved versions of ships and his new 74 Gun Ship of the Line and his film version of the Black Pearl. These last two are disabled by default though. The first because Kazeite hasn't added the ships_init.c code and I just copied the other 74's ships_init entry, which is probably not good. The second is turned off, because she is supposed to replace the ingame Black Pearl version, but we need to make some additional modifications to the game to make that work properly, because she should be an "uber ship" when you have to fight her, but should be a reasonably normal ship as soon as you captured her (though still faster than the other ships).

Also: I think that a lot of Petros' new ships look the best with his Spanish sails in use, so it might be nice to add those to the game as well for use with those ships by default. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

How would that be accomplished?
Adding refShip.EmblemedSails.normalTex = "ships\sail_x.tga";
...where" sail_x" would be the Spanish sails?

But that would add those sails to all of those models even if bought or encountered as part of Eng, Dutch or French fleets.

Anyway, I'm guessing that you would like the Spanish sail texture, right?

Pieter, I've played the original 74 a lot and recently I've been playing Kazeite's version. I'd recommend simply replacing the files in the current 74 with Kazeite's instead of making a new ship for it. And I'm a big fan of the 74. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Wow.

Well, thank you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Regarding <i>Black Pearl</i>... Funny thing is, she's not supposed to be invincible <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> As explained by the screenwriters, she sails away from the <i>Dauntless</i> in the beginning because she'd otherwise be ripped to shreds. Later, remember how Jack got out of the cell? Because cannon ball from <i>Interceptor </i> pierced the hull and blew up the lock.

You know, if we could change ending quest, I actually do have a rough outline of events:

As you sail to Khael Roa, you encounter <i>Sovereign of the Seas</i>, of course. Now, I believe it is possible to add about 40 extra cannons to the stock MoW hull, making her (him?) a super Man-of-War, almost impervious to normal attack. Sorta like Super Star Destroyer <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

The only way to destroy it quickly is to sacrifice players ship, ram <i>Sovereign</i> and set it on fire. Which will leave the player without the ship. That's where Danielle comes in, providing her own ship. Next we go into the temple, etc, and when we go back, we can have <i>Black Pearl</i> vs Danielle's ship fight <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I saw Petros's ships for the Build 13, but I saw that he was making some for 13.1. I was just hoping to a few sneek peeks at those. I didn't see those in the beta files. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I think so, yes. You can also set refship.NormalSails or something like that, so that all sails have the same texture.

<!--quoteo(post=171476:date=Nov 14 2006, 10:57 PM:name=Petros)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Petros @ Nov 14 2006, 10:57 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Unfortunately, yes. Alternatievly, we could try to add those sails to the sails choice interface, but I think that only replaces the emblemed sails and not the regular ones, which would end up looking real weird.

<!--quoteo(post=171476:date=Nov 14 2006, 10:57 PM:name=Petros)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Petros @ Nov 14 2006, 10:57 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yes. Although we would still need to figure out the best way to use them in the game.

There are two 74's now: The original one that is improved by Kazeite and Kazeite's completely new version. I would prefer to use both in the game; after all: both are made/improved by Kazeite now, so they should both be good.

<!--quoteo(post=171479:date=Nov 14 2006, 11:52 PM:name=Kazeite)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Kazeite @ Nov 14 2006, 11:52 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->

Realistically you are quite right and I would prefer it that way, but gameplay-wise, the Black Pearl should be the "ultimate" enemy of the main quest, so that's why she should be "extra" strong. But not anymore after you captured the ship.

<!--quoteo(post=171479:date=Nov 14 2006, 11:52 PM:name=Kazeite)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Kazeite @ Nov 14 2006, 11:52 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That would be an excellent idea and I would highly prefer that over making the Black Pearl an uber-ship. I suppose Danielle's ship should then not be very strong, making the final battle very hard after all, even if the Black Pearl is not an uber-ship.

They aren't in the beta yet, but they will be in the next version. Petros put them on the FTP and I added them for inclusion in Build 13. It is not entirely clear if we will or won't make a Build 13.1 and Petros did want his ships in a stable Build version soon, so we decided to add them into Build 13 after all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Pieter: I didn't realize Kazeite made a new 74 as well as fixing the old one. Good deal.

As for taking on these uber-ships: While I haven't played the game to the point where I encounter either the Sovereign or the Black Pearl, I've taken on a lot of the largest ships in my sloop. The way to deal with the monster ships is to first shoot their sails out, dismast her if possible. Then you can do whatever you want. Especially if sail damage affects turn rate is turned on. Once a ship is totally dead in the water you may have your way with her. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Note that this is not an automatic win. You have to keep from getting your own masts shot off. Or sunk. Pray for strong winds so you can maneuver. The worst situation in the game is finding yourself 200 yards off the beam of a 100 gun ship in a 5 knot wind after doing a sail-to.

Edit: With the enemy ship directly upwind. hehe!

she looks really good - nice port. Is that the default screen for AoP? yuk i dont like all those big icons everywhere(looks like a console game?) - is it possible to change them or are you stuck with it? shame it kinda gets in the way of the better detailed graphics engine <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Details, details <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

All we have to do is to change, what, few lines of the dialogue, and nobody will know it is supposed to be stolen <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Compared to the end quests necessary rewrites this is the least of the problems <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

what if you would make a bit in the main quest where you could steal back the ship? for instance, danielle knowing the captian, knowing where he lives, and have the option to either force him to give back the ship on land, if you have high leadership, or: take the ship by force on the sea immediatly, or ofter you are unsuccesful at convincing him. i don't know which island to suggest, because QC is surrounded by pirates, making it a lot more diffcult (for some), and at other islands, ships from another nation could attack the ship and sink it if they where hostile. hmm.....i think a pirate island is the best choice after all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Thanks.

Yeah, Treasure Galleon is what I called it at first, but later changed to Royal Galleon.
Other than the renaming of the files, there might have been some slight adjustments but I don't remember now.
