Peter help me out...I went to sink the ammo ship...but I ended up killing the fort and taking over the colony...then my game broke . I was rooted to the spot...with no commands except to talk and exchange and save...

I have no idea. Sounds weird. I don't really recommend attacking Oxbay fort; not sure what it'd do to the main quest. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I think he the means fort at FdF.
He got attacked and captured the FdF fort while in the middle of going there to find and sink Boons ship.

If this is so, it is obvious why the quest gets broken as he need to get to town to speak to many people to move that quest along.

The question should be, why wasn't he reset to neutral with the French once he approached FdF with the quest open.

^^^^^ What he said..I went back after completing the quest and killed the fort again for bugging me and found no one in the tvern etc...so it makes sense ...but I did get attacked on sight....the second time I did it I went to ...umm I think its called octopussy bay....hehehehe ( James ..James Bond..) and walke d to the place.

Ok So I cant change Colonies over . I cant build my own colony ..So I can Trade and Pirate . And do little missions if I like ..or search for rumored treasure. Its good to know I dont lose all my officers...I hate it enough when I get them killed ..because I do stupid stuff ..

Whats this land owner crap have to do with ??? Am I supposed to own a house or have land someplace ?

i have read runors of a bug where you would loose your officers on a ship in your convoy if you hired a new officer. the officers that dissapeared where officers that where with the captian on that ship.

I played almost 5 hours tonight, tested out one thing about the quests and destroying a fort.

I got a pirate quest where the pirate ship was a 74 gun SOL. Hey, can't pass that one up! I captured the ship, exchanged it for my sloop, took the sloop back and sold it. Repaired and outfitted the 74 and headed for Oxbay. This was the first time I'd been back to Oxbay since I left, so none of the main quests had been done yet.

I fought the three French ships guarding Oxbay, during which I destroyed the fort. After capturing all three French ships, I sacked the fort as well. After sacking the fort, Oxbay was empty.

I sailed to Greenford, sold the French ships, and divided the loot, which was around 18 million by that time. "Two months later you get your ship back..." and I went from Infamous Pirate to Scourge of the Archipelago.

Sailed to Far Beach, went into Oxbay, which had been rebuilt by this time. I don't know if it would have been rebuilt if I hadn't taken the time to divide the loot. I talked to the drunken Frenchman about the Oiseau without problems, and sailed back to Redmond. Looks like the main quest will continue as normal.

There is a bug where if you sell a ship with officers, they don't go back to your passenger list, but stay with their captain. (You can get them back by assigning that captain to a new ship)

I've got a fix to that on the bug tracker:

With the flags mod on, France doesn't go neutral anymore like in the stock game. Instead you should raise French or Portuguese colours and trick Falaise de Fleur into not shooting at you.

You get personal wealth from your land each day. This money gives you status in the game and you can move it to your crew's money and use it to buy things with.

no, it's a different bug. any officers accompanying a captain on a different ship would dissapear when you hired a new officer.

Who did you divide the loot with ?

BTW My Problem wasn't killing Oxbay but the Felluer joint with the Ammo ship...

At any rate I ran the Tiny ship over by accident and sunk it...the one supposed to be full of troops ...in that escort crap mission ... But Oxbay was still free'd from the dastardly french...I went on to play for about 2 hours..and got Beatrice ..the redhead as a captain and all kinds of great stuff ...but I had not saved because I didn't want to chance i bugged the game up by killing something before a quest was done again...I'm supposed to be finding a pirate island for the fat dude ..the English Gov.

Anyway freakin anti virus starts up as usual on a friday.....damm game freezes....I quit...after cursing my fool head off...you cant alt tab out of the game and any computer prompt that forces you to the desktop ...freezes the game . My wife tried to duct tape my mouth ...seems I said many foul words...many many many....aside from getting the Redhead I had recruited some GREAT captains/ officers...and Had captured an Awsome Frigate.....and went up about 6 levels ..Got a Windmill and two Bosuns swords...I dont know what the best swords are BUT these have huge stats...

For this game I changed the HP on level up..so fights last forever it seems ... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> So having these weapons is MUCH more important..Now that you are fighting against guys with 700 hp . <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

I like the sword fighting but it seems there should be a few more Moves ...and the &*&^^%%$^^%** space bar is fine ...BUT the block being "CTRL" is a freeking moron *&%$# !!! ...the windows button and all being RIGHT next to it...My fault for not reasigning the thing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I found out what land is for when the GUV ..after I went throuh the available conversations...said it was time for me promotion..and gave me stuff including land. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Since you guys added all thisinsane dialog I was looking for a " you fat porker I should cut off your fool head " type of option .

But I got promoted instead .

I seem to have trouble killing forts...this time I got the black screen of death .

You all know how long the fights and such are...to take a fort is fun but an effort...at least for me...then to have ...a crash or freeze up....oh well...it ain't perfect.

At any rate I am at Turks ...the Fat boy asked me to go finf a traitor on a pirate island ...moron directions.

Must be a different Island.

Is there a list of Islands and such someplace around here and whats on them ...I need to do some reading up.

So I dont kill stuff I should not and so I know somewhat what I should go for.

I would like to reasign the attack and block buttons to the left (click mouse )and Right on me trusty mouse. SO I STOP HITTING THE DAMM WINDOWS EXIT BY MISTAKE WHEN I BLOCK......only because it freezes the game up....ever friggin time and makes swworrd fighting...the MAJORITY of wwhat you seem to do a damned pain in the butt !

The controlls for walking used to be with the mouse...Why cant you reasign the fighting controlls ?

The first thing I do when I get a new keyboard is pry the Windows keycap off the keyboard. I never use it, and I don't ever want to hit it by accident. Use a screwdriver, and do it gently. Just pry it straight up, and it will pop off.

Dividing the loot:

F2 for character screen, click on Ship, click on your crew. You have buttons there to pay to raise morale, check the ration status, and there's a button for Crew Pay. Click that and it gives you an explanation of the two options. The default when you start the game is to pay your crew a salary every month. The other option is to pay the crew shares of the loot. Read the warnings on this screen.

Once you've switched to paying your crew shares, you no longer pay anyone salaries, including your officers and yourself. When you have enough money, you go to a loan shark and choose the last option, "I'd like to divide the loot." The loan shark will tell you how much you're personal share is, and how the crew will feel about their shares. If the crew isn't happy with their shares, some of them will leave. You'll also get about 10% of your current money back to start your next expedition.

Note carefully that your ship will be laid up for 2 months, so if you have any time-critical quests going on at the time (including loans from the loan shark) you want to finish those first.

You will lose whatever was on your ship at the time, but your ship will be completely repaired. You might as well sell all your cargo except for a bit of wheat and rum. You start off with the default cargo of ammo, repair materials and food, included in the divide loot process.

The money you get from this goes into your personal wealth, which raises your fame. This is about the only way to get sufficient money to pay the apothecary to raise your hit points, which comes out of personal wealth rather than ship money.

With a small ship like a sloop, a million will make your crew very happy. With a large ship like the 74 gun MOW (with about 750 crew) a couple of million will leave them feeling neutral, so many of them will desert.

Anyone who thinks there's too much money available in the game needs to divide the loot a few times to see exactly what the effects are. Of course you need enough money to make this process worthwhile, so if it's hard enough to make money, it will remove dividing the loot from the game entirely.

Hook

how do you find and get to the apothacary ?

My game is not a " share the loot " game...maybe next time .

BTW .....I must be an old dummy with ADD...Why didn't I just destroy that button ?

I was so fixated on changing the controls...to me using the mouse makees sso much sense ....well it will die shortly.
Thanks.

I went insane and gave everyone 100 points or something on level up...so fights last forever...and the side benifit is the exp...you get in fights is big timed.

I like the bording fightss but they seemed to be over beforre I could run into the party...so I gave everyone more heaalth to play with...what a difference...dont go into a fight with low level guys...they will be toast .

Here is a good question....I want to put some officers on my ships in the squad that folows me . I was able to do this when I bought the ship and origionally assigned the captain ..I wanted to adda navigator to one of the ships but I cant seem to do it anymore...not in the shipyard and not in berthing and not in the ship screen...am I missing something ?

Anyone know ??

Another question that bugs me ...What if I want the Black Pearl to use to play the game after the quest is over ? ( Main quest / Game ) All the faqs I read say the battle and the SINKING of the Black Pearl is the end of the Game ...ummm Cant I bord and Capture it ????

BTW.............I seem to be boning the fat boys daughter...the gov gonna get mad at me ?

If you view the ship with F2->Ship, one of the options looks like it's going to assign a captain, but is actually used to assign officers.

Hook

You da man Mr hook ...thanks for the help...al of it..

Just getting rid of that button was worth sooooooo much...next I have to figure out how to kill every prompt that takes me out of the game .

I am trying to assign officers to companion vessals...F2 gives me NO option to change captains or add officers..I need to go to a ship yard or I can tranfer the captains..

I cant figure out how to staff a squad ship with officers..I could do it when I first BOUGHT the ship...

Like my Ship hass four openings One for captain thre for officers.

I want to stick some officers on the other ships.

Ok, I have a character with 2 ships now.

F2->Ship->Ship-to-ship transfer (select your ship and the other one)->Assign Officers

This will allow you to assign officers to the other ship.

Also, if you have a Menu key on your keyboard, pry that puppy off as well. Someone recommended to me to do this long ago, but I didn't do it until the first time hitting the Windows key messed up a game I was playing. Since then it's the first thing I do with a new keyboard.

Should you ever want these keys back, just press them into place.

<i>As far as I know</i> this will do no harm, but some keyboards might be strange. I had a computer once before the days of the PC where they tried to fix a key bounce problem (you'd sometimes get multiple key presses when you hit the key once) by putting really stiff springs under the keys. I took every keycap off and switched out the springs, and put all the keys back on, then sent the older computer back to the manufacturer with the new stiff springs. It worked fine (except for the bounce problem, of course <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ). Most computers fix this problem in software.

If you want to be able to Alt+Tab in and out of the game, run the Config.exe in the main PotC folder and disable the fullscreen mode and make sure you set the game resolution to higher than your Windows resolution. You will be able to task switch just fine that way.

In the original game and in Build 12.1 you could only sink the Black Pearl and not board her. I am pleased to tell you that that was changed in Build 13. You can board and take her, but you do need to fight skeletons first. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Pieter is of course right on both counts!

I always set my game up like that and can "Alt-tab" out anytime, and go back later.

It is great when you are taking character screen shots and want to make sure you have the right ones, before moving on in the game or deciding on different locations.

That part you can do right now.

I am working hard to get he black Pearl..I have been playing since wed night....I am getting close..But getting better ships and building up officers ..not tot mention replacing sunk stuff from the damned forts from hell....my fault for forgetting flag stuff ...well I am getting closer then i will just be a terror. I am an Admiral for Britain..but they do not sell Rank one ships ??? Where can you Buy a Brit Mon O War ?

I'm not sure you can buy a man-o-war. My favorite method of getting large ships is to sail out and look for encounters between two groups fighting. If the ship I'm looking for is in a hostile group, I'll board and capture it. If not, I'll sail away and try again with another group.

I've had a lot of 74 gun SOL's, but only bought one. The rest were pirate quests given by the governor. Depending on your game settings, you might not encounter a ship this large on a pirate quest.

Considering that you want to board and capture the Black Pearl, you can do that in any ship. As long as it's fast and maneuverable enough to stay out of the gun arcs of the enemy ship, you can take out the sails with chainshot which will leave the Pearl completely immobile, unable even to turn. Or just reduce the sails below about 30%, which will reduce the turn rate by half, making it easier to stay out of the gun arcs while you approach to board. This is how I deal with all large ships in my sloop (with 6 pound cannons! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ).
