Now who wants revised flags?

ya they are toned down if you look at the second set of pictures with flag closeups.

As for toggable ships, id like that, i could imagine an option like

#define REALISTIC_SHIPS 1
//Set to "1" to enabled realistic historic ships only, "0" to enable all ships.

Btw can one edit portugal not to have any naval only ships? because from what i understand portugal was never a real major power but more engaged in trade, having a hard time finding the proper war ensign for the period, but i did come across the merchant ensigns.

also other than that i still have the Custom flag to replace, any suggestions as to what to replace it with?

Is this game using .gm format?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I looked in the respective folders and found some strange stuff. The game is made by Global Star and Akella, so the folders are set up in a similar way to PotC. Looked in the resource folder and went through the Models, Textures, and txt_res folders. Only file types I found were .tf, .shp, and the Model folder seems to be empty, can't see anything and there isn't a "Show Folder Contents" option... I'm guessing they used personal file types because anything in .shp format had a name like "64_gShip.shp" and "40_gFrigate.shp"
Even if we could open them, convert them, and put them ingame, wouldn't work out. The ships in PB:AoS II are small, typical of an RTS game.

Cool links to the <i>Bonhomme Richard</i> and <i>Constitution</i>! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> I don't know what they had when making "my" ship because what reasearch I've done and the conclusions I've drawn show it as an old East Indiaman thats solid black with some gold and red trimmings here and there. Looks very much like the Heavy Warship 2... must keep that and make it a unique along with the <i>Dutchman</i>, <i>Pearl</i>, and "Old ironsides". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Nonetheless, it is an AMAZING model!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

We need to contact our Russian counterparts and learn from them, eh? we could advance our modding and perhaps inspire them when they see what we've got going on over here.

When it comes to the old "Who gonna do it?" I'd like to, really, but IB schoolwork, track, cross country, ROTC, and real life stand in the way and I haven't the slightest skill in the 3D modeling field, let alone the programs necessary. I can offer input, critrique, historical expertise, and artwork though, so if you have a question about the American Revolution, need a ship draft, an idea for a quest, thoughts on a model, anything like that... fire away and I will answer! Hopefully the real life workload will lessen over the summer and next year, I'll be taking only 2 IB classes next year rather than the 5 I'm in right now. (I HATE IB chemistry, geometry, and German... why I signed up for them I haven't the slightest idea...)

The flags look cool, can't wait to see more and keep up the excellent work!

I get exactly what mark is saying though about those spots, most of that was just how he quickly rendered it, it's the texture, and when ya see the flag moving in the game it'll be so much better but ya need that movement for it to work.

my whole time travel thing was just the product of a mind that was still halfway dreaming as I woke up and just went to check messages and had this page still up so refreshed and then read and replied, it was as I said, my way of rationalising the two centuries and the pearl and constitution etc. it wasn't really meant to be taken seriously <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Though Pieter what ya said does make some sense.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->And we really need to get in touch with the Russians. Judging by the Black Pearl, apparently they are able to export models properly and even fix some of our models. Unfortunately they are now working on their modpack for AoP and not on PotC anymore. We should also somehow recruit some new people. And perhaps inform Disney of what we are doing here somehow. After all: We're greatly enhancing their game, so we should strike a deal with them: They give publicity to our game and our modding work gives publicity to their films! And how about we inform a whole bunch of gaming sites of our modding work, so that more gaming people will actually know about this. Perhaps there's a lot of sailing/pirate buffs who just don't know that we have done such a tremendous job on PotC and who would be most happy to join us. There must be more people interested in our work than just the 20 who post here on a regular basis, so all we need to do is to find these people and bring them here!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

also very well said. anyone been on POTBS I assume you guys have, if not I'd be happy to post a lil recruiting thingy >.> oh and there are all those gamer review sites like iGN or whatever, we can drop a few lines with sites like that and maybe they'll do an article.

also UBISOFT just does an amazingly thorough realistic in depth (to the level that I'd want in an age of sail game) game with submarines in silent hunter 4. you guys know my standards and how I obsess about details, so when I say it's damn near perfect, ya know they've done something right. perhaps we aughta talk to them as well just show them what we like, doubtful they'd do anything and if they did it'd be years from now but I'd say they're the best bet for a proper pirate game.

Regarding time travel story... Paper RPG <i><a href="http://www.peginc.com/Games/Savage%20Worlds/50%20Fathoms.htm" target="_blank">50 Fathoms</a></i> by <i>Pinnacle</i>:

<i>"The natives say a trio of witches were discovered working dark sorcery in the land of Ograpog. The three were tried, sentenced by King Amemnus himself, and drowned with the rising tide. But with their dying breath the sisters uttered a dark curse, drowning Caribdus beneath 50 Fathoms of water. Soon after, ships from another world drifted through the mists of earth and into the “Thousand Isles.”

The visitors are sailors from the age of piracy, dashing corsairs, bloodthirsty buccaneers, or savage sea dogs. They’ve taken to this new world and now sail alongside its strange inhabitants—crab-like scurillians, massive grael, lonely doreen, mysterious kraken, cruel kehana, and the near-human masaquani. Many believe these visitors are destined to defeat the Sea Hags and save Caribdus, but most just seem interested in plundering her for the forgotten treasures of a drowned world."</i>

Of course, there's no Caribbean in this game, so it kinda makes it inpractical for us <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

could we please get back to the subject? if you go back a couple of pages you might find it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

is that still nessesary then? sorry, i seem to have forgotten if there was anything to talk about from the old topic.

that might be an option if the player would become an american, for before-said reasons.

I was thinking the same, since were now talking about moving the era forward.
btw i strongly recommend french revolutionary times, the tricolor looks alot better ingame than the fleur de lis.

LOL!

As far as the recruiting thing goes: I challenge everybody here on this forum to promote our game and our work as much as possible! Send out e-mails to Disney and Akella, contact the Russians, contact the PotBS people, send e-mails to gaming sites, do whatever you can think of! We need people and you - yes, YOU - can try to get them here!!!

Why not? most of our ships are already more napoleonic in design, the British frigate/surprise, Man o War, bot h stock and AoP ones, the lineships and other frigates and brigs ect. lets face it there are very few ships in the theme of the 17th century, and lets not forget about the carronades as well.
Then we also have the officers uniforms which are also as before mentioned, napoleonic(unless they were removed since i last played)
It would also actually fit the story line a bit perhaps with the attack on Oxbay by the french.
Im a fan of that era, it may be towards the later of the great age of sail but it is so much more intreasting the fashions, and ship designs of that time.

Indeed. The Age of Sail (1670-1860) is fun enough, but the Age of Fighting Sail (1770-1820) was the height of the era and truly an amazing period.

I'll promote this work as much as possible! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Pieter could ya write up a recruiting poster thingy that could be a locked thread in important topics? basically an exciting but brief synopsis of what we have already done and what we want to do in the future. and what we need, I know we could use anyone but like guys who can read russian or guys who can model ships. this way when I or others send letters to some of the gamer review sites, or whoever else we want to talk to, I'll speak my piece of course but then i have a nice thread to link them to that says exactly what we're all about and what we're doing.

well the flag set is as good as done, but i still need ot know what ppl want, the portuguese nationality flag, or the merchant ensign of the era(couldnt find any naval or war ensign)
And what people would preferr as the player nations flag.

I'd go with their national colors and the American flag... not just the American flag, but the Continental navy ensign.

<img src="http://www.usflagdepot.com/store/media/serapis.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

What's the difference between the Portuguese nation flag and the trading flag? I don't know what they look like.

the current portuguese flag is a nationality flag. one of the merchant flags of the 18th century looks like this..
