Pirates 2004 - The Graphics.

Oh well, I wasn't actually expecting to get a discount, but you never know unless you voice up. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

By the way Jeff, well said. A game with "character" has strong potential.

All you people who loved the POTC movie: Captain jack was virtually a cartoon character in that film and you loved him for it!

I mean, besides being bombarded on all fronts by EVERY image possible, the sameness was quite apparent. That, and everyone seems to be heading towards MMORPG... I am happy that Pirates! looks different - pretty good, I might add - and that it's for ME, not for me and thousands of other people online at the same time! I can't *possibly* play like that, even if I might want to...

<!--QuoteBegin-Jeff_ATARI+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Jeff_ATARI)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->style and panache.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->PANACHE! That is THE WORD. Style AND panache, yes, absolutely. This game is going to be a lot of fun, AND you will enjoy it, because it has style and panache. I mean... What is your idea of a pirate, anyhow? A pirate is someone with style, with panache, bold, brave, someone who says "Who cares, I'm gonna do it anyways!!!" Even if we don't have the chance to be brave and bold in real life, this game will help you live it! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

(Jeff, you know where to mail the check, thanks) (HAHA, JUST KIDDING!!!) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

<!--QuoteBegin-Jeff_ATARI+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Jeff_ATARI)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->you'll definitely be getting a few sneak peeks at new material before it comes out.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" /> Thank you, Jeff... Jeff...

Are the graphics we se on the latest videos on IGN the 'final graphics' ?

or will even more effects be added?
or other things regarding the graphics?

From what I have seen so far the motion of water is whats looks best, although the water look suffer cause the water surface doesnt reflect light.

I also like the nature and clouds.

You may have read somewhere before about Firaxis's pretty unique style of "iterative game development" -- where they create prototypes first, to make sure a game is fun and interesting, and simultaneously work on improving the graphics and tweaking the gameplay as they near final code release.

As an example, take a look at the official trailer video again (mirrored on this site as well as other places.) Then take a look at the latest batch of screenshots on the website (www.`pirates-game`.com). You'll notice big improvements in the screenshots as compared to the video footage we captured and edited for the sizzle video, because in the month or so between the video and E3, Firaxis had made several changes/improvements. Most notably, compare the dancing sequence (movie: everyone looks the same, floor is carpeted) with the screenshot (every character is different, it takes place in a mansion, there are cool reflections on floor).

So we'll continue to see graphical improvements in each build, as the development team works with companies like ATI to take advantage of T&L shading and the newest instruction code sets until we've got a final product.

Best,
Jeff Foley
Atari

Thanx for the information Jeff.

yes. I read somewhere that the Pirates 2004 team has worked with the graphics continously to this date and it is very nice to hear that they will continue to do so.

I noticed a quality improvement in the latest screenshots although I didnt know if the graphics really were improved. I have to apologize cause I judged Pirates 2004 graphics on screenshots from an unfinnished version. It was a misstake.

This game is a must buy for me. Pirates on Amiga was a fantastic game and I find no reason to believe that Sid wont be able to make the gameplay just as great or maybe even better than in the old days. and with a brand new 3D engine it will look alot better than in the old days for sure..... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Hello all. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Some (Jeff) may remember me from CivFanatics.

As more and more information has been released about this game, I started to get even more interested than I was originally. Finally, my last concern were the graphics (of the characters, to be specific). Jeff has assured me (at least) that the graphics are not finalized and will get better eventually.

This game looks great, and most importantly, it looks to be great fun.

I am not that well informed of all that has been going on, but will there be a beta for this game? Testing Conquests (latest expansion to Civilization III), I learned that it was extreme fun and at the same time helpful.
Unfortunately, if there is a beta, I am not sure I can participate (although I would love to), but time will tell. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

Well I never had big Problems with the graphics. But seeing all the new Screenshot and Videos, I really thing they are awesome!
Comic Style Graphics and Pirate Games fits perfectly! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

It's intresting that it is the gambryo engine. The same engine for Morrowind and Freedom Force (one of the best Games I ever played).
While Morrowind never ran smootly on my PC, Freedom Force ran perfectly!
Hope will be the same with Pirates!

Nevermind, by the end of the year I plan to buy a new PC.
