Pirates' movies

What about this one HMS DEFIANT. No pirates, but a great movie, bought it in 2005 and have almost worn out the disk!
Stars Alec Guinness ; Dirk Bogarde ; Maurice Denham ; Nigel Stock ; Richard Carpenter ; Peter Gill ; Anthony Quayle ; Johnny Briggs ; Bryan Pringle ; Andre Maranne

Well worth a watch......

As commander of the British warship H.M.S. Defiant, the humane Crawford (Guinness) strives to maintain order throughout the ship against the ceaseless brutality of sadistic first mate Scott-Padget (Dirk Bogarde).

After Crawford is injured in a fiery battle with a French treasure ship, angry seamen Vizard (Anthony Quayle) leads the crew to mutiny when Scott-Padget takes over. Now with Vizard in command, Crawford persuades him to join the British fleet to help fight against France's planned invasion of England in hopes for a mutiny pardon. But when a vengeful sailor murders Scott-Padget, the Defiant crew must decide between saving their country or their own lives.

Never seen that one but will have to check it out. Sounds pretty cool and anything with Alec Guinness in it is usually pretty good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

<i>How about this one? I don't think I saw it on the list. </i>

<b>Abbott and Costello Meet Captain Kidd (1952)</b>
Rocky and Puddin' Head are waiting tables at an inn on Tortuga when a letter given them by Lady Jane for delivery to Martingale gets switched with a treasure map. Kidd and Bonney kidnap them to Skull Island to find said treasure.

Breed of the Sea (1926) - silent film

Adapted from a story <i>Blue Blood and the Pirates</i> by Peter Bernard Kyne

Ok, here is one I have not noticed: "Down Periscope" with Kelsey Grammer.

It is a modern day submarine movie, but there are several references to pirates. The Admiral, played by Rip Torn, is looking for a commander who "thinks like a pirate". Then there is a great scene where the crew is dressed as pirates and makes the XO walk the plank. (And of course, there are a few references to a tatoo in a strange place. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> )

Good pick, Mary. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> How about this one Capitain?

<b>Buccaneer's Girl - 1950</b> (not a musical, but lots of singing), Yvonne de Carlo, Frederick de Cordova: a New Orleans entertainer <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> falls in love with a pirate.

Found this one. Don't think its on the list.

<b>The Black Pirates</b> (1954)
High-energy swashbuckler about a group of pirates searching for gold in the West Indies. Anthony Dexter, Martha Roth, Lon Chaney, Jr., Robert Clarke and Alfonso Bedoya star.

cutthroat island is on dutch TV tonight! not sure which channnel though. it might be BBC.

<b>Captain Kidd and the Slave Girl (1954)</b> Lew Landers, Eva Gabor, Alan Hale Jr. (Green Acres meets Gilligan's Isle)

Made long before Eva Gabor and Alan Hale Jr. found themselves in "Petticoat Junction" or on "Gilligan's Island" but visible proof that both had nothing to lose by going to the small-but-free world of television series. Anthony Dexter---bare-chested most of the film with the smoldering nostrils from "Valentino"---as "Captain Kidd" is saved from hanging by an Earl (James Seay) who wants to get his hand on Kidd's treasure. The Earl thinks the best method is to put a woman confederate (Eva Gabor as Jeanine Duvall) aboard Kidd's ship as a slave girl to wrest or wrestle the information from him. They fight a lot as a prelude to falling in love, and then work together against the evil Earl's none-too-well laid plan. Alan Hale, Jr. (Simpson) is along as Kidd's trusted friend, while Sonia Sorrell (as Ann Bonney) displays a lot of what the best-undressed female pirate wasn't wearing on pirate ships of the time.
