First I want to say that I am highly impressed with the modding you've done. You changed the Pirates of the Caribbean game from being a rather mediocre game to not a whole new level, but to levels beyond that! This is the game how it should be and I'm really enjoying it.

However, playing Build 11.99e for a bit, I noticed some strange things:
- Apparently, when talking to someone who offers to learn you some fencing skills, the options for learning defensive and offensive seem to have been swapped. I selected offensive (the second from the top), but I got the message that my defensive skills had increased.
- By using the 'side-step' function, you can walk right through everything.
- 'Quick-savegames' have a "Bad Save" loge, but still do load when pressing F9.
- The Captain Jack Sparrow skin currently in the mod isn't the best available. Check out this version. I believe this is a second, improved version by the maker of the original one, but I could very well be mistaken here... I found it at the PirateHideout website.
- I can't add my nation's logo to my sails. Do you need a high class ship to be able to do that?
- I can't find the blacksmith on Douwesen! Any help?
Edit: Never mind. I already found him. When I first came to Douwesen in search of him, I arrived at night, so I missed him at the port and couldn't find him in the town. Silly me. :facepalm
BTW: To reach Douwesen, I had to fight some pirates and one of them lost all theair masts. LOL! :woot

Also: I thought up something that might make a nice new mod. I am unable to mod myself (I can only make 3D models ('sort-of'), but 3D Studio MAX doesn't work at the moment and I only model ships for another game, Virtual Sailor anyway - Come to think of it, maybe some of you might be interested in that game. It features several 'pirate-type ships as well. Maybe those could be converted to PotC?).
Anyway, in case anyone's interested in my mod idea, here it is:
I'm a big fan of the PotC movie and find it a shame that there isn't much movie 'tie-in' in the game. I was thinking, maybe the main storyline could be changed just a little bit to add more movie 'tie-in':
- Nathaniel Hawk (or whatever name you've given him) is actually Bootstrap Bill after he was thrown overboard the Black Pearl. He survived since he was cursed and was found by Malcolm Hatcher (who is captain of the lugger "Victory", who took a liking to him. Only he did lose his memory, so he doesn't know he is Bootstrap Bill anymore. He still is cursed though, which explains why he survives when he's killed or sinks, only he does get injured. When arriving in Oxbay at the start of the game, Malcolm doesn't want to sail anymore and gives the Victory to Nathaniel/Bootstrap.
- Replace the two "cursed pirates" in the "Deliver the chest" quest with pirates we know: Pintel and Ragetti, for example.
- Give the man on Falaise de Fleur dialog that is actually consistent with the movie (what he currently says doesn't agree what is known about the curse from the movie) and add the fact that he recognises Nathaniel as being Bootstrap.
- Make the blacksmith (who I cannot find) look like Will Turner and add a governor's daughter looking like Elizabeth.
- Add more music to the game, including tracks from the PotC movie, but possibly also music from other piratey movies (such as Cutthroat Island, Treasure Planet, etc.)
- Etc, etc...

If anyone is interested in doing something like that, please let me know. Though I can't help with the actual coding, I would be happy to help providing the dialogs and music.

Drunken hit upon most of your questions/concerns/comments, so I'll just say AHOY and I like your ideas! That would indeed be fun to implement!

Glad to hear you are a modeler! We are currently awash (well, sort of) with coders, but bereft of modelers - so this is a good thing! I took a look at that Virtual Sailor site - very interesting! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

You should take a look at the ships (and characters!) models in PotC - you could either modify them or build new ones...

When I finally get my programs to work, I might look into modeling some pirate vessels. But I haven't tried anything of the sort yet (and, frankly, I doubt I'd be good enough for that. I'm quite sure I'm not good enough on adding good `wood-textures`...). If you are interested in seeing what I modeled before now:

By the way: Some more comments and questions I just thought about:
- Any chance of anyone giving me a short summary of what has been changed/added in build 11.99e over build 11 and what we can still look forward to in build 12?
- I remember reading somewhere about the different `officer-types` now using different models. Is that implemented?
- Are there now female officers every now and then?
- How to use armor? I never found anything with armor in the game yet. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
- It's really annoying when, during boarding, you just can't see which crewmembers are yours and which are not. Or can you see that somehow? If not, that might be an idea for a mod...

Something that has nothing to do with PotC, but does have something to do with the forum:
- When clicking on a poster's name, the link goes to "java script:emoticon('[b ]Poster's Name[/b]<br />, ')". I take it that this should point to the poster's profile "http://forum.piratesahoy.net/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=####" instead?
- When posting a message and trying to change the font colour, it doesn't work, because it adds "<span style='`font-size`:7pt;`line-height`:100%'>text</span>" instead of "<span style='color:color'>text</span>". When changing "size" into "color" manually, it does work.
- At the "View more Emoticons" page, the "Close Window" can't be read, because it's the same colour as the background.
- Oh: And what does this "Landlubber" mean. It's true, of course, but I still wonder what it's doing there...
Just to let you know. Hope it can be fixed...

It has a time limit of five minutes and doesn't allow for more than five boats and one scenery to be installed at one time (but, by replacing some of the default ones with the ones you downloaded, you can still try them out). However, this is more than enough to try everything out for yourself. The full version costs $25 and doesn't have these limits.

If you would like something fun to do in Build 11.99e, go find Fred Bob the Boatswain... If you sail to Falaise de Fleur and talk to the `wharf-rat` Orable Caron (he's standing by the stairs to the harbormaster's office), he'll tell you about some rumors - just keep asking him, and he'll eventually ask you if you need a good Boatswain... Once you hire Fred Bob, remember to deliver that letter he gives you... I think you'll like the quest, it's quite enjoyable if I do say so myself (I made it!).

You are not the only one among us who doesn't drink, Pieter... Mainly it's just an amiable social expression, anyhow (HEH!) - you can have a `non-alcohol` ale, if you wish! Or Tamarinde... Orange squash... Apple juice... Root Beer! (yummm!) First, regarding officers.
`Tavern-hired` officers have specialties based on their models, yes.
Female models are not included in the model list for tavern officers because they lack sit animations and thus do not appear at the table in the tavern (this is apart from the locator problem*). _However_, once you've hired an officer you can give them female "clothes" fine (they don't need to sit again).
*The locator problem is this: The Danielle model, like the male models, has both sword and gun locators. A few other female models have sword locators. The rest have neither.

Note also that there is a very slight chance that if you talk to a vagabond, they'll actually be an `out-of`-work officer (even if the vagabond is female!). This is the only way to hire a female officer directly. (*New in b12*)

Regarding music. Due to the new `PGMUS-handling` in b12, you will have to manually edit music_alias.ini, not drop in a new one (because the number of entries doubled, with the duplicates being the PGMUS versions). That's to allow `on-the`-fly (well, exit `game-change` BS.`h-restart` `on-the`-fly...) changing between normal and Pirates! Gold music.
 
Yes, the `darker-clothed` scalawags are the pirates; the `lighter-clothes` ones are The True And Just.

But as mentioned above, you can tweak boarding models to your heart's content; just remember to reinit afterwards.
 
Oh, and regarding the `name-clicking`.
There's a separate profile button (next to PM and email) on all our posts; so instead of double duty for the name, it's set up so you don't have to retype the name of the person you're replying to.

(At least that's how I understand it)

Nathan, I found someone in the game who mentioned the Godfather of the Archipelago, "the notorious Nathan Kell", and I took a screenshot of it. I read the new Build 12 readme, but found large parts of it a bit too technical for me to understand. Especially the explanations for a lot of Nathan Kell's new mods. But that is just because I don't have enough modding knowledge to know what it means. 1) Why do I hardly encounter any scrapper pistols, Solingen rapiers and Man'Owars (in shipyards)?
2) How can you buy sails? I remember it said something to that effect in the ReadMe.
3) How to `re-add` the Build 11 style Dutch sails? In Build 11.99 they were replaced.

You talk about converting ships from Virtual Sailor to POTC- are those models publicly available anywhere? And if so, in which format ?

Well, a lot of it's pretty esoteric stuff, so don't worry. Sir Christopher did an excellent job of `English-izing` it though. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
And a number of them are just fixes to fixes. I don't recall whether they are available normally. However, if you turn Debug Mode on*, you can put the tailor into tailor debug mode, where _all_ outfits are offered. But be careful, some may not have pistol or sword locators.

in the console and hit F12 during the game. When you want to turn it off again, change the 0 to 1 in console.c and hit F12 again.

Sure. Just add another name = XXXXXX.ogg under the correct subheading.
In fact, if you're serious about a whole music _pack_, you can add a whole new set of headings, like the PGMUS ones, so the pack can be toggled on and off without editing the music_alias.ini file. For every heading there is currently a "HeadingX" and a "HeadingX_PGMUS" version; just add a third "HeadingX_YOURPACKNAME" heading.
Then add a define to BuildSettings.h below PGMUS (modeled on PGMUS) and add code in sounds.c (modeled on the PGMUS code there) to allow enabling your pack.

PS, in build 12 there is now a separate [music_main_menu] heading, so yes you can have separate main menu music.

BTW: I got some more questions:
(I'm still trying to install Build 12 at the moment - having trouble every time "buildsettings.h" is involved in the installation process - so these questions are based on Build 11.99e)
1) Why do I hardly encounter any scrapper pistols, Solingen rapiers and Man'Owars (in shipyards)?
2) How can you buy sails? I remember it said something to that effect in the ReadMe.
3) How to `re-add` the Build 11 style Dutch sails? In Build 11.99 they were replaced.

You can change item rarity in inititems.c, by (perversely) _increasing_ itm.rare = XX.YY;
Right now both have very low values and are thus very rare. Also, they have minimum level requirements; rarity is also affected by how far above the min level you are and how high your luck skill is.
MOW are also rare; only big towns will have them, and only occassionally. The chance is, IIRC one in (eight - ship class).
2. I don't at the moment recall. That's Kieron's baby, and he's sadly absent at the moment. If you go into F2->Sails, you should be able to pick sails.
3. if you can find the old textures, just rename them to whatever the new Dutch sail textures' names are and overwrite the new ones with them.
