Rewrite current main quest...

I also thinks that Will should be placed in the Blacksmith at Redmond/Port Royal, when the first main quest is done.

that's odd. last time i looked, it wasn't even there! for some reason the one that's in-game looks much more like the real one, although he isn't.

Any objection to changing Danielle to Elizabeth Swann?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I agree with Thomas the Terror. In the movie timeline, Elizabeth is still a kid if she was even born yet at all. Also: The Liza model isn't really suited for much fighting, if you were thinking we use that. I vote for Annamaria: Use the Danblack model or 50_India. I used Danblack for the Tortuga ladies modification in which I used her as Annamaria.

Question: do you intend to use my <i>Black Pearl</i>? I'm asking because I can easily make <i>Wood color Pearl</i> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
YES! YES! YES! That would be AWESOME! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Question: If I remember correctly, (and I could be wrong - he dies in the cabin when Danielle stabs jack - this could be re-written I think to him being wound and escaping prior to marooning Jack later) Rhiems sort of disappears after a while in his quest in the early part of the game- If this is correct, any objection to using his part, at this time, as a brief chase of Hector Barbossa ? A brief chase here, to be continued later. i.e. Rhiems becomes Barbossa - using the correct model. He could also be there at the original meeting with Swann - Jack didn't recognise Rhiems so assume he didn't recognise Barbossa.
I noticed he did show up in Redmond for the handing over of the musical box in the game as is.
My thought is to have him working for Beckett - and although Beckett sends Jack to "arrest" him he is really bringing him back to safety. - if you see what I mean.

Chronologically we are still waaay before the mutiny with Barbossa, so I think that the player would only get to meet Barbossa after the current main quest. I don't think Jack and Barbossa had ever met before Jack hired the crew with first mate Barbossa. I do agree that it'd be fun to make Rheims a more interesting and movie-like character. But who should it be? Perhaps replacing Rheims with Bootstrap Bill Turner might work? Not Norrington, that's for sure. And probably not Mr. Gibbs either. That doesn't leave that many options, I think. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

maybe just a completely new character? it could be a sort of not-told event aside from the story.

I suppose it should be a new character, yes. Reusing a film character just doesn't work well, I think. We can try to make him an interesting character though. What I would like is if Raoul's life sort-of mimics the player's own experience. So Raoul's eventual death would then mimic what might happen to the player when he betrays Beckett.

Pieter - I am not suggesting a "true" encounter at this time for, as you say chronological reasons.
However, Jack does meet Barbossa in the Redmond square - "as is" in the game - when handing over the musical box.
I am just suggesting linking him in with the other characters - He is a friend of Anamaria (Danielle in the current quest (as Rhiems) and we are continuing that line) and Jack's involvement is just peripheral in chasing him and in overhearing the conversation at the cabin. I am suggesting he would be badly wounded and Anamaira carrys him off while Jack is unconscious still in the cabin. He would then disappear till the current main quest is over when Jack meets him to hire him as a first mate. Jack still would not "know" him as such till then.
To me it just "glues" the various participants together more, plus gives the Rhiems/Barbossa part more body.
But, whatever you decide is O.K. with me.

I currently have Norrington as a Lieutant Commander with Swann's fleet - having sailed over from England as a Lieutenant. He (as you know) becomes a Commodore as the film starts - post current quest - so in the meantime he would have made commander, then captain.

At the moment Jack would encounter Barbossa in Redmond, yes. However, this is because the current game is set during the time of the Black Pearl's curse. After all: We get to fight the Black Pearl at the end. However, in our quest rewrite, we would, by this time, still be waaay before the curse ever happened. So at this point in the quest rewrite, there IS no Curse of the Black Pearl. There isn't even a Black Pearl yet. This means that the two cursed pirates must be replaced. I would personally suggest replacing them with Davy Jones' crewmen. When this replacement is done, Barbossa will be gone from this encounter.

If you can make replacing Rheims with Barbossa work story-wise, that's fine with me. It sounds interesting. I don't know if it would work story-wise, but I'm not going to prevent you from trying. Perhaps it DOES work! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

About Norrington: Norrington sailed from England to Port Royal aboard the HMS Dauntless as Lieutenant at the start of the first film. During the prologue, the Curse of the Black Pearl is already in effect. Which means that this event should happen AFTER our current main quest. This means that Norrington can't get a rank higher than Lieutenant during our current main quest rewrite. It would be nice to see Norrington progress from Midshipman to Lieutenant during the main quest though. Perhaps you can contact Commodore John Paul Jones about Norrington's involvement. He has written an (unofficial) book on Norrington's life before the PotC movies.

Today I found confirmation on Jack's father's name by scriptwriter Terry Rossio himself. This is from Ted and Terry's own personal website and information posted here by Ted and Terry is completely reliable. Hi Morgan, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

From the film - Barbossa is much older than Jack so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

alright then. i don't think that there would be THAT much that would need changing anyway.

I think I have this working quite well without conflict to the quest or film - I'm just trying to firm up the character base here, not change the "facts". Trust me (as they say! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> )

I have an idea here that I thinks works quite nicely - Jack meets Midshipman Norrington in the Tavern during the tutorial for a chat - Amongst other things, Norrington tells Jack he has been recalled to England, he hopes " to be promoted to lieutenant and then transferred to Port Royal (Redmond)".
I am a little concerned about a lieutenant commanding a squadron, that's why I promoted him at Port Royal (Redmond) during our current quest - he is still lower than a captain as will happen at the end of the quest.
Again, this is my attempt to "introduce" the characters to the player during the current quest. If you really feel that he can be no higher than lieutenant, then I will put a fictitious officer in charge of the squadron. No problem for me, but I think we will create more story interest by stretching the promotion bit. As I read it "he came over as a Lieutenant became established at Port Royal rising to the rank of Captain and promoted to commodore at the start of the film" (end of our current quest) so the intermediate promotion is up for grabs I think. Your call. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

The WHAT? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

What mark did Jack leave on Beckett? The capture of his Manowar, I should think. If we go with the Beckett = Silehard idea.

I had a different idea: We keep Silehard, but add Beckett as additional character. Some quests are given by Silehard, some by Beckett. Beckett is the REAL cause for the French invasion: Beckett wanted to cause the French invasion, then free Oxbay again and keep Oxbay for himself afterwards. The player does never see the liberation of Oxbay, so who says it ever took place? It never did take place! It was just a coverup for Beckett taking over! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The mark that Jack left on Beckett will be revealed in At World's End. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> That's official from Disney.

About Norrington:

Before Enemy on the Horizon, Norrington had never been to Port Royal. He's been to the Caribbean a couple of times, but he has mostly been up and down the Bay of Biscay aboard numerous ships-of-the-line where he picks up his sailing skills and tactics. I also have plans on sending him to the Med for a year as a Midshipman when I finish the series and turn back to the pre-lieutenant years.

<b>1769</b>- Norrington joins the Royal Navy as a Midshipman. Most of his duties are along the French/Spanish coast and in the Med.
<b>1773</b>- Norrington is comissioned lieutenant. Has a lengthly deployment in the Far East (which makes for a good opportunity to introduce him to Beckett and Sparrow on buissness, possibly Feng.)
<b>1775</b>- Norrington is deployed to Port Royal on the <i>Edward</i> under Captain Henderson (this is the ship we see in the beginning of TCotBP.) He is promoted to Commander of the <i>Odyssey</i>, a sloop-of-war, shortly after docking.
<b>1776</b>- American Revolution starts. I haven't completely planned this out yet. But he will fight through the entire war and eventually see action at the Battle of Yorktown in the Chesapeake Bay against Admiral Le Comte de Grasse in 1781. He will be a senior captain by then and have a third rate. His valliant actions will give cause for the Admiralty to post him as Commodore in his first post from Commander days... Port Royal.
Movie Events occur. Let's hope he isn't killed in At World's End! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I want to write beyond that.

Oh, and the book! Disney's interested, but they can't read it yet. I have to find a literary agent to represent my book like a lawyer does a person in court. Legal stuff. I've started book 2... For King and Country and it looks great. Disney (the person I talked to at least.) really jumped at the idea of a Norrington backstory. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Um... no it's not. The ship we see in the beginning of TCotPB is the one and only <i>HMS Dauntless</i>.

I'm fine with everything you do. Looking forward to you next piece! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Please take all my comments just as comments. I say what comes to my mind, but that doesn't mean it are good ideas or that you MUST listen to them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

I think Norrington can be promoted to Lieutenant during the main quest, but since he was a Lieutenant at the beginning of the first film, he can't be promoted up to captain until the Curse of the Black Pearl has come into effect, which will probably happen AFTER the current main quest.

To Commodore John Paul Jones: Good news on your book! I hope you get it officially published! It all sounds awesome to me! I hope that you will be able to work the events of Pirates 3 into your story. And I hope Norrington will have a good role in Pirates 3 and won't die or anything. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

The ship at the beginning of the first film was not the Dauntless? I thought I heard the scriptwriters say it was in the audio commentary. Doesn't really matter for us anyway... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
