Ships Ported Over From POTC

Hey luke, can i ask you how did you manage to get that interface picture? Because from the lydia i downloaded from your link i don't get this picture when i press F2 :shrug

Strange, anyway go to RESOURCE\Textures\Ships\Lydia1\Hull1 and copy the tga file called Lydia1.tga now go to RESOURCE\Textures\INTERFACES\SHIPS and paste the tga file here. Now go to pictures Configuration Settings file located in RESOURCE\INI\interfaces and search for
Code:
[SHIP_LYDIA]
sTextureName	= ships\Lydia1.tga
wTextureWidth	= 128
wTextureHeight	= 128
picture = ship,0,0,128,128[/url]

Rename this part of the code

[code]sTextureName	= ships\Lydia.tga

to

Code:
sTextureName	= ships\Lydia1.tga

Thats it or should be it.

I just extracted the file i uploaded of Lydia and everything matches what i have done in my game. I normally just copy the files over so there shouldn't be any difference between what i see and what everone else see's. The other thing to do is download the combined mod and install the ship from there moving each and every file, see if that helps right now i can't see the reason for the Lydia not to show in the ship interface screen like that.

Luke, You'll be glad to know I'm not a complete idiot. I was able to successfully import the yacht on my own. I'm still experimenting with Batavia1 on a seperate machine. I think I'm on to something on the file renaming.

Did nothing but play my but off yesterday with Real Time Battle Light and the new ships imported. I had to start a new game as the saved games won't work with the imports. I started at Skipper level this time. Holy crap it was hard to claw my way to some success, but I have some good crew ships and abilities now. At level 10. Having an awesome time with it. The new ships look great and are working prefectly in every battle.

One funny glitch I ran into. I captured a Pinnace of War while on a merchant mission. Didn't have enough crew to keep the Interceptor I had. The thing is when I went to give the cargo over to the merchant, instead of missing only 69 or 690 in medicines it became 69000. It was impossible for me to come up with that amount, so I sold the cargo and let them put a bounty on me. I immediately went to Bermuda to employ the Pirate Diplomat to get me off the hook. Already a millionaire and enjoying the hell out of the enhancements.

Thanks Buddy. :onya MK

I didn't think you was an idiot for one minute MK, just unlucky with the ships you tried to port over, hopefully now that your moral is up and you know you can port ships over you will find out whats been going wrong with the Batavia1. I had a few hours gaming last night but my mind was on porting the 52 gunner War Galleon called Heavy Trader into COAS so my gaming was cut short and i was back trying to port ships, the good news is not only have i ported the Heavy Trader which is actually the Arabella lol but i have ported a few small ships over like the Sloop Cutter, Brig Sloop and i've ported over the Schooner Xebec, i have almost finished porting the ships i wanted to port over so the release of these ships will be all included in the combined mod 1.1. I just have to go through all the ships i've ported over and get the information i need to give credit to all those who have created these amazing ships for us to enjoy.

Ah so you like the Real Time Battle mod, just woundering what you think of the cargo holds space on the ships you have used so far, too much not enough space? and how did you find the damage the shot types had?

I'm thinking the bombs damage hp will need lowering because that is too high but do you find the damage each shot does good or need changing, oh one last question have you experienced any cannon fall outs in long drawn out battles?

Well i better get back to work and finish porting the Schooner Xebec over to COAS. :onya

Funny you ask Luke. Was just thinking about that. My thoughts are that the cargo holds are a little too big. The small galleon for instance can be over 6000 which I think is a little much when Batavia(an East Indiamen) can hold the same. Thought the Pearl and Coastal Frigates were a little big too. My thoughts are that if they were designed as a cargo carrier like merchantmen and indiamen they have large holds. If they are fighting ships they start out with a thinner design and have thicker heavier more closely aligned ribs and cannons taking up space. I'd go with fighting ships having half what their merchant counterparts would have with the exception of the really big ships. Class 1 ships, Man-O-War, Dutch Escort Ships, Heavy Battleships I'd give lots of space. Hybrids like Galleons that were built to do both I'd put half way in between....if any of that helps. :shrug

MK

edit: Five years from now in our perfect COAS V environment it would be so cool to have animated gun port doors and guns run out like in Sid Meiers Pirates. I bring this up because a cool uber future mod could have options to carry more cargo at the sacrifice of guns that could be manned.

In the case of many Indiamen, they had two full gundecks. However when they were full to the gils on their homeword voyages, the guns were stowed and tied sideways to the inner hull and every square inch of the gundeck filled with precious cargo. A player with a warship willing to take the "full cargo" option and have 6000 capacity, but would sacrifice half or more of their firepower. Just a thought....

Thanks for your input MK, i have now edited the cargo holds so that they are lower, i will go over it again tomorrow when i'm more awake to make sure i'm happy with it, what i will do is also upload it and send to you via PM and then you can have a look at it. Feel free to alter the cargo holds to what you think would work best and then send it back. :onya

I have also added the ships to the normal ship_init file so that are normal ships with normal COAS stats, that way no one has to be forced to use the Real Time Battle Mod or edit the ported ships.

I believe you can remove cannons (doesn't add to your corgo space) but it does allow you to carry more cargo, however i understand what you mean by removing a cannon it does free up alot of space more than COAS offers at the moment and i totally agree about the gun ports needing there doors fitting thats one area on most ships that make the game look poor. In very bad storms when in battle the captains had no choice other than to close there gun port doors and sit out the storm before comencing there battle, that would be nice for COAs but we need a modder for all the idea's to be made possible (thats if they are even possible in the first place).

Got the file. Will take a look at it. To answer your question on the guns. I think you have it about right both in terms of lethality and fall out. Yes I did lose guns in a drawn out fight, but not too many...seems realistic to me. I was using a corvette and a supporting Batavia against a fleet twice my size. Lost three guns in a fairly brutal engagement against a Pinnace of war and a Merchantman. I find now that I go with max crew so I can close and board as soon as possible to shift the fight in my favor against the other ships when I'm outnumbered.

Great mod Luke! :dance MK

Thank you MK. :onya

Hopefully the new cargo hold value's will be closer to what they should be and while your looking at the file i have ported a few more ships over. Here are a few ships that was ported over ready for the final combined mod. I have also got all the modders who made these ships and they have all been listed in the readme file. There are a few ships i have no idea who created so they maybe have been ported over from AOP or the first Sea Dog's game not sure anyway not many ships left now before this is released, the sooner the corgo hold value's are done and the final few ships are ported the sooner this mod is released, the one thing that will slow this mod down is converting the walk files which i'm dreading but i will get to work on as soon as the final ships are ported over. Its been so long since i played POTC i'm not sure if that Ship Of The Line is the original POTC Man-o-War or if its a new ship model. I'm so use to COAS now that i can't remember much about what each ship looked like hence the reason i keep stumbling across more ships to port over. xD:

Crimson Blood

20 Gun Brig

Ship Of The Line

I'm just testing the game out with the ported ships installed to see if there are any problems and every ship loaded up when i was testing them out but now when i try to enter a battle with a ship on the world map the game closes down. I haven't had problems like this with all the battles just this one battle, so i'm making a list of all new ships i've seen in the game been generated and hopefully it will reduce the ships to only a few posibilities. Is there a way i can find out from the report given after the game closes down as to what the problem was and where it can be located?

Nice work Luke, :onya Almost got em all now. I'm still playing with the Batavia1 and Mordaunt on a differnt machine. I'm also working the cargo edit. I'm putting a little research in on this. I'm looking at a lot of old sources including bills of lading. I want it to be right. Should have it in another day or so.

Really enjoying the mod and all the ships. The game is better because of your hard work. Thanks :will

MK

Excellent, thanks MK. :onya

I need to find the ship thats behind the game closing down on me, i think i know which one it is but can't be certain yet, i have alliminated a few ships, in the error report it had something about rope.dll which i expect means there is a ship with bad rope data if that is the case then there is a ship i know that does have rigging problems, the question is, is it that ship though. Nope its not that ship i thourght which was the 50_gunner Amsterdam, i had a battle with two of those last night and they was fine. The rigging on them is a problem though.

MK if you can make note of all the newly ported ships you see generates in battles please that way we can elliminate the ship faster so far the ships i've elliminated are. As you can see this is a slow process but hopefully not an impossible one.

OK Luke, In addition to the ones you mention, I have fought and taken the Pinnace of War, the War Pinnace, the War Galleon, Amsterdam, Merchantman and the Fleut of War(no sailors on deck for Fleut of War BTW). I have observed and fought, but NOT taken the Shnayava, Heavy Warship, and that small three master with the boats on the deck that looks like the packet brig. Can't remember its name. I Have NOT yet seen any of the Arabella skin variants, La Licorne, etc. It might be those. There are some weird files with those as we both know. I'm taking the day off early today this afternoon as its my B-day (the ported ships made a great present - thanks!) - so going to treat myself to an afternoon of gameplay. I'll let you know about any others I find. :dance

Hey luke. I going to do/add/mod the interface and ship icons TGA files that are lacking from your ships, then i'll send them to you to add it to your pack thus we finnally have the right pictures when we press F2.

Problem is that it looks like you have some original pictures i don't have.

Would you be kind enough to send me your Texture/interfaces/ships folder in order for me to see which ships have the right pictures and which haven't please? :will

Thanks and yes sure i will upload it for you, i will have to make a text document since i don't know how to use hex code to change the names of the ships TGA files so i've had to use what ever the files names was originally. It would be great to finally have pictures for these ships, while thats been done i'm going to do the waterline for these new ships i noticed the Fluyt Of War sits out of the water far too high and a few other ships do too, so i will start going through them all and fixing each one of them. :onya

That ship isn't in the current combined upload but i will be uploading the new combined mod later on tonight, she is i think the POTC Man-O-War can't remember so use to the COAS one now lol. I'm just fixing the waterlines for the new ships and then it will be uploaded. :onya

That is really easy, i will explain you step by step a little later :keith

Thanks that would be very helpfull. :onya

Ouch sorry i did totally forget about this. :facepalm

Ok here it is: First if you don't have it, download GM viewer from here. Once it is done launch any gm model from resource/model/ships.

When you open the main gm file of a boat, it will show you the exact name of the texture assigned to it.

So basically to change texture assign new texture to it it's very simple: change the name of your modded texture into THAT texture name assigned to gm file that you see on gm viewer......OR (but i think its not the simplest way)

Just open your gm file with a hex editor, (available here or in internet for free) find the line wich shows you the name of the assgned texture and rename by whatever modded texture name you want, numbers of letters have to be the same (you will understand why when you'll try) and then rename your modded texture with the new name you just written in your hex program opened gm file.

Once we are finnished whith what we are doing now (you the ported ships and your combined mod, and me tga interfaces and some translation work) i guess i will write a complete tutorial with pictures for basic modding. Tutorials are painfully lacking on this site, i'm pretty sure much people knows to handle tons of things/problems that anyone is having regurlarly but this is all totally lost as they don't write tutorials and when they stop being acive nobody else knows to do the things. :modding

Edit: BTW Luke are you going to port any of those ships:

AmericanHeavyWarship
HeavyWarship
Sol74gun ?
