So someone's making a new Ship of the Line? Cool. Can't wait for all the new models too. Not that the Santissima Trinidad is exactly a new model for me, though... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Oh! a dream come true, at last I'll be able to sail in the Surprise! I can't wait! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

<!--`QuoteBegin-Cap`'n Cornish+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Cap'n Cornish)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->The surprise carried 12 pounders apparantly if you read up about her. I did on the net but I can remember what site it was.[/quote]

12lbs seems to be a bit small (in PotC), as she´s similar in size to a Corvette. Though I thing, the Corvette carrying 24lbs is a bit too much and makes her a ship more superior than I like.

She looks great. Nice work! According to this site the historical Surprise was build in Le Havre as a 24 gun corvette carrying 8lb long guns, but she was captured by the British and rearmed with 32lb carronades:

own SotL, the Manowar_Gub. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Surprise had a `gaff-rigged` mizzen and full stern galleries, and her jib boom and bowsprit were much longer.

Aside from that, and the fact that she seems to be built from a number of components (masts, headrails, etc) from <b>DeEspona's Le Superbe</b>, you've done a good job with the general hull shape and the bulwarks are very characteristic. It is traditional however, for obvious reasons, to credit the authors of work you are borrowing.

I also can't help but notice that you are using POTC `high-detail` components, like the hipoly cannons, etc.

Those DeEspona parts and the POTC parts are very hipoly. POTC does not like any ship with a larger polycount than about 6 or seven thousand. Which is to say, it will run and it will look good as a `high-poly` model, but on anything less than a `top-notch` system it will be completely unplayable. When you go into battle with any more than 2 ships, it will bog down on any PC until your framerate drops to maybe 2 or 3 FPS.

As an example of a reasonable polycount version of that ship, you might want to look at:

<a href="http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/240860/Action/FullPreview" target="_blank">http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Inde...ion/FullPreview</a>

This is my version of that ship, and as a game model, it does not top out much over 6000 polys.

This is a recommendation, but anyone in the game industry will tel you the same thing. If you want it to run (and users not to complain), it is best to swallow your pride as concerns polycount and do as much as possible with textures. You'll be surprised in time what you can accomplish that way.

What ever happened to your game models, Sigma? You showed us all of those pictures, but never any finished products...do you still have plans for them?

Ahoy Sigma,long time no hear mate,hope all is well with ye,I've looked at DeEspona's models and they are very impressive, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

She Is 100% scratch built. except for stock sails and her foward mast.oh and the bell .the cannons are reconstructed to look like the high poly ones in game.her mast where modeled from a real wooden kit model.her hull spline modeled from her draughts drawing and I have 3 beta testers who are useing her right now and seen the day to day construction of the model.and it runs pretty well on a standard system.yes I am that good.10 years doing cad .6 years working for Newtek.dont insult me and dont accuse.

You can take what you like as an insult. None was intended.

Perhaps if you reread my post, you'll get a better sense of the tone of it. I'm very familiar with those models (I have a number of them) and I'm merely reporting what I see.

On the contrary, there's no 'insult' or 'accusation' here. I'm a reasonable person, and I don't at all mind being proven wrong. By all means, show how they are not the same. If I'm wrong, I'll happily admit it and then apologize.

WARNING: Hey guys, arguments are fine. Just remember to remain civil (as you have). This is a pretty hot topic and nobody would like it closed. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Now...I have a question for you guys. I know VERY little about modeling for the game. Is it at all possible to add the ship models from that link <a href="http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/240860/Action/FullPreview" target="_blank">http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Inde...ion/FullPreview</a>
to this game or any other? I am VERY impressed with the HMS Surprise model as well as the Bon Homme Richard model.

<a href="http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/181765/SID/240860/blFP/1" target="_blank">http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Inde...D/240860/blFP/1</a>

I understand that you would have to pay for the models, but if it was possible to get them in game I would be happy to fork over some cash! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
