Unconfirmed Bug Tavern-Hired Land Crewmember Not Equipped

Jason

Buccaneer
Storm Modder
I asked for additional crew to follow me around in a tavern and he did but came unarmed so maybe you could look at that.
You mean you hired a character found in the tavern to join you as a shore crewmember?
@Jack Rackham rewrote some things for equipping land crewmembers a while back. Did the guy not auto-equip on the next location reload or so?
Yes in the tavern, and when we left the tavern he arrived unarmed. He was still unarmed at the next location. I can send you the save game if you like.

Indeed please do; we can make it a Bug Tracker issue. Would be nice if Jack Rackham could look at it since he most recently worked with that code.

Can you hire crewmembers in a tavern?
If so it's a feature I didn't know existed.

If I recall, when you do have crewmembers following you ashore, a general setting is enabled that puts more types of characters in the game.
One of those types of characters can be hired to directly join your party of shore crew members.

Though I never really played with Land Crewmembers on so I'm not speaking from first-hand experience.

Ok I hired a guy in the tavern. He was a "master at arms".
1) A new kind of officer?
He could be promoted to any other kind of officer, also to a "tough". So that one exists too.
2) Officer or crewmember?
Anyway when hiring this guy he arrived armed but the 2 guys I already got ended up unarmed. BUG. :nogood

This didn't happen when hiring a standard officer (like a gunner). :onya
Also when running back and forth to the ship and changing my mind about how many men: no bug so far. :onya

3) Are there any other situations/places where you can hire these men that to me seems something between crew/officer?
4) Also can you hire crewmembers on land?

1) A new kind of officer?
If I recall, that is what is displayed for an officer without a type.
Was that a specific character? That generally applies to quest characters.

How did you do that "promotion"? If a character is an officer, then you can swap his/her role in the Passengers interface.
But if a character is a shore crewmember, then where is the officer type displayed? Shouldn't even be anywhere at all.

3) Are there any other situations/places where you can hire these men that to me seems something between crew/officer?
All shore crewmembers can be promoted to full officer, but that has a price and they aren't very good.
Still, the option is there for if you need to quickly find some officers.

4) Also can you hire crewmembers on land?
If I recall, yes you can and I think that is where @Jason's problem occurred.
But you need to already have land crewmembers for that to be possible. I think....

1) Not sure if he was specific. Sat at a table in Tortuga tavern. Ok, master at arms is a no type officer.
He's role was changed via dialog.

New situation:
Asked the tavernkeeper for a special officer: one with muscles.
A master-at-arms showed up.
Hired him. No BUG concerning my crewmembers weapons this time. ???
Changed his role to a "tough" via dialog. No visible effect. He was still called master-at-arms in the passenger interface.

There's some confusion here. My guess is that master-at-arms and tough is the same type.

A suggestion: when there already exists crewmembers to escort and fight for you, why not remove
master-at-arms/tough. And keep the "proper" officers.

@Jason: How do I get more crewmembers on land?

There's some confusion here. My guess is that master-at-arms and tough is the same type.
Probably. I forgot that role-swapping through dialog was possible as well. Anyway, I don't think there is any actual problem there.

That is just a regular officer like any other tavern-hired ones.

From what I understand, the problem is specifically with crewmembers and not with officers.

"Master-at-Arms" applies to quest officers that cannot be categorized or that haven't got a type set.
It also applies when you remove an officer from a position. But indeed the "tough" name is confusing.

The problem I am having has nothing to do with officers. It seems that it occurs when you add additional crew either from the ship deck or tavern. Back when Jack changed it so they equipped themselves we had some problems with this and there was fix that fixed it all. Since this is similar problem perhaps that fix might work again.

Any fix that was made back then should already be in the modpack. I suspect that the symptoms are the same, but the reason for it is probably different.

You talk to everyone in the tavern until you find a sailor who asks to join your crew. If are close to but not totally full you get a dialogue box that follow m around town or report the QM. Choose follow me.
