Ha ha! Latvia?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

yes. i gave it to my grandfather who likes to restore and build such things. he gave it to the university (in the state in which i had it) as a demonstration model (the rigging wasn't made correctly. now all those students are learning from a ship with faulty rigging! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> ). the ship was taken home by an exchange-student from Latvia so he could repair it, and he was apparently allowed to take it home!

i looked up the name of the country in the dutch/english wordbook. i don't really believe it's the correct name, actually.

Latvia is correct AFAIK

Oh well. The books are always better! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

But, (in case someone doesn't know), the enemy ship <i>Acheron</i>, is American-built and actual computer-generated ship was based on <i>USS Constitution</i> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Actually, the change from the American's to the French presents a flaw in the movie. The design of the Acheron, as explained in the movie, was a new design that the Americans were building at the time and was a state secret! In the book, it was possible for the Acheron (not it's name in the book) to have that design, but the Americans would NEVER have sold a ship with that design to ANYONE at the time.

Yep! The Naval Act of 1794, I believe? Ordered the building of some six super frigates: <i>Constitution</i>, <i>Constellation</i>, <i>Congress</i>, <i>United States</i>, <i>President</i>, and <i>Chesapeake</i>.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> We were sneaky little buggers...

EDIT: Kazeite, the <i>Dauntless</i> is comming along well. I've started some of it, but I'll have to do most of it this week. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

... How plausible would be to have an American ship with American crew, but with French officers, serving as French privateer? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

EDIT: Excellent <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> You know, I actually found a thread with your earlier attempt, together with your first line drawing of the <i>Pearl</i> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Oh, yeah... the earlier version really wasn't all too good. Inaccurate. But this one will look like my hand drawn <i>Pearl</i>! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

though I don't think that the ship would be a privateer period. I do not believe the government would give a 44 gun super frigate to a privateer. Could be wrong.

So any chance of someone making a kick-ass (bermuda sloop quality) Constitution model (even though it don't go with the time period) just for kicks?

and yer right, the Americans wouldn't have liked the movie had it featured a Yankee ship vs a French ship. On account that we won that war, we'd take it a lil personally I'd think <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

also not sure, but isn't Constellation a corvette often called a sloop-of-war? EDIT: right now I remember, she was broken up and then a new ship with teh same name was built, that is hte one that is still around, they said it was a rebuild just so that it could get away with it with the navy budget

and I'm guessing the whole master and commander thing is probabally referring to the Chesapeake? I'd honestly rather have blwon my own powder magazine, blowing up my ship and possibly the Shannon as well than surrender it to the british and get put into a prison barge. Pirates of the time got a faster death than what you got in a prison barge.

it's the. THE. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> sorry, just couldn't resist. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Teh Constillation is teh bestest! ROxOrs! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

no ship is ever named with a THE in front of it, that's a mistake made by land lubbers or so says some odd fact I read some where at some point in my life >.>

Heh.

You know, ye beat me to it! I wasn't going to ask yet, because of the work on the models for <i>Victory</i>, <i>Interceptor</i>, and possibly the <i>Dutchman</i>... but I <i><b><u>REALLY</i></u></b> want to see a <i>Constitution</i> of "Bermuda Sloop" and "theBlackPearl" quality put ingame!!! It'd be amazing! There could be several versions: One with the name actually put on the stern as a unique ship (named OLD_IRONSIDES), one without for those who want the ship... but not "Old Ironsides" (US_FRIGATE_1812), one with Nelson's yellow scheme(RN_FRIGATE_1812), one with the dark red (FN_FRIGATE_1812 or SN_FRIGATE_1812)... I think once a super frigate model is made and several skins made, the whole "frigate duel" thing would be reborn and there'd be less need for so many new ships. Most ships of the period looked the same with different color schemes to define their nationality. Same thing with the new <i>Victory</i> model being made. If we are able to get the basic design for these ships with simple black and nation's color paintjobs, the shipyard system and all would be so simple and organized! And you could tell who's who in a sea battle without having to look in a glass and pick out their ensign. Oh, and, when putting flags on... keep it realistic: A long, thin pennant from just the mainsmast and a large ensign at the gaff that's half the height of the spanker. (Dunno, all the ships being festooned in flags has always bugged me... too Renaissance.) I guess if the 1600s fans don't like it, a new toggle that goes hand in hand with the era button suggested earlier?

Kazite: The <i>Dauntless</i> is looking brilliant! I've finished her basic hull and major features. Now i have to go in with all the detail... hinges on gunport lids, channels, railing, windows, scrollwork, planking, etc. She's a real beauty!!!
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

I'll try to get up a scan of it soon! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Well, I must say I'll be looking forward to seeing what some of the communities newer members are working on. Phenomenal that we still have new members showing up semi-regularly.

Ladies and Gentlemen of PA!, I present to you the finished product:

<a href="http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/53638235/" target="_blank">HMS Dauntless Draft</a>

His Majesty's Ship <i>Dauntless</i>.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> Enjoy Kazite!

Wow... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> it looks <b>awesome</b> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" /> ! Thank you, Commodore <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

(I particulary like those four undead pirates standing on the bottom <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />)

I never thought of that! I guess they look like cursed pirates! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

I had intended for them to be Norrington, Murtogg, Gillette, and Gibbs, just to show scale. But not that you mention it... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Have you looked at it in full view? (I doubt that you haven't.) But if not, you just click on the image and voila!

That looks amazing. Now I'm wondering where in the modpack we could actually use that picture. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

To Kazeite: How about that non-black version of the Black Pearl for use as the Wicked Wench? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
