The Kraken *WIP*

As far as i know this is the first time someone has tried to make a kraken i have read the forums and people seem to have some ideas on how it would work, one idea i saw was that it was a ship that had cannons which when fires the tentacle hits and i think im going to try going with that idea. Anyway the first part is the model and here it is.

Nice. I had an idea that might work reasonably well with tentacles as floating goods that can be generated around a ship. If you could make a tentacle model and export that to the game, we might do some experimenting with that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I don't think they can be animated, so several different shapes would be nice. But I'd already be happy with one tentace I can use. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

It would work but the goods would need to do damage ? and also if a lot of still non moving tentacles popped out the water it wouldnt be as scary as a creature bringing tentacles down on your ship. If anyone has any ideas please input :p

The goods doing damage wouldn't really be a problem. CouchcaptainCharles added the ability to lay mines into the water, which are also floating goods, but a ship explodes when sailing over it. You can trigger any event you want when sailing over a floating good, including doing damage. If you suddenly have a lot of tentacle goods generated around your ship, you know you're in trouble, but you might still survive as long as you manage to avoid most of the tentacles.

Indeed having an actual creature bringing tentacles down on the ship would be infinitly better, but I don't know how we might manage that. A kraken-shaped ship firing invisible cannonballs would be pretty silly and making a ship animated seems to be impossible in the game engine. Also there's animals in the game, but I don't know if it is possible to make animals influence ships or whether we can make an animal follow a ship or something like that.

There might be more possibilities than the floating goods idea, but for the floating goods I really DO think it might work. Any better ideas might be possible, but I think we'd run into game engine limitations real quick. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Hi,
Wonder if this could be coded in somehow ?(not by me)

Example:-
Ship travelling along hits mine(Kraken bait , mine2)..... the mine explodes.
repeat the explosion = on repeat explosion.. init ship model (Kraken model in same coords as the ship that hit the mine).
Kraken ship model then sinks by hand of God = explosion three which causes total damage to the ship that hit the mine..hence that sinks straight away too......?

Kraken bait = name it.....mine2(floating goods)
Kraken model = A ship model made in the Kraken shape
Explosions = Effect only(better if it was large water splash) or a kraken noise... whatever that might be.

Wacko or not....just a quick idea (well it makes sense to me).

So the ship will explode seemingly by itself, then suddenly the Kraken appears and then both ship and Kraken sink together? Might be possible, but I don't readily know how. I don't suppose you can survive this one, can you? Perhaps we ought to do some brainstorming on the gameplay value as well. Limited to the DMC quest? Completely random sudden death?

Hi,
Not too wacko an idea then <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I don't suppose you can survive this one, can you?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I suppose so if we give it survival chance value related to NPC ships or your own ship whichever encounters it.

Hi,

For DMC quest scenes we could have this occur to order by making three Kraken models to fit a merchant type ship (same/similar idea as the armor mod for using the models)....three different stages of destruction. It's not the same as an animation but will give a change of tentacle position for the Kraken.... it'd give some visual effect.
Also make three Kraken models to fit The Black Pearl (same idea ).
So that could give the two scenes with the Kraken from the film.

Ok i will start modeling tentacles in different positions so that we can try out that idea first. Im still trying to figure out how im going to texture this i was never any good at wrapping :p

Thanks a lot! This'll be a great help when the times come that we try and make the Dead Man's Chest quest. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

i had another idea for a kraken attack im not sure if this will work though. Have a crew like Kraken_Attacked_Crew where a crew members animation is where a tentacle comes out the water and grabs him and pulls him into the water

Wouldn't work, I'm afraid. It seems impossible to assign "custom" crew members to ships. The crew members are used for all ships. Otherwise we might've been able to use Thomas' Royal Navy sailors for British ships. But no such luck. The only exception is the skeletons on the Black Pearl, but those can only be used on one ship in the entire game, because a unique ship ID is required.

thats unfourtanate <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

About animating the tentacles...
I've not been playing much recently, but surely the floating sailors (after a ship sinks) are animated? Or aren't they floating goods?

They are floating goods and they're not animated. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

oh, I'll shut up then. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Keep up the good work!

PS. I might be able to find time to do some more modding soon. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I have an <u><b>IDEA!</b></u> i hope you understand this because i hardly do myself.

Ok the idea is that there is a ship called Kraken_1 which is underwater at some point it dies near the ship its attacking and the sinking ship animation for the kraken is the tentacle rising out the water and it releases mines on the death so that when you hit that tentacle you get damaged.

Im not sure if this would work but i hope it makes sense <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
