The Kraken *WIP*

Sinking ship animations are done by moving the ship model in a pre-defined path downwards. Not sure if it's possible to change that path or to even animate the ship further (break in two?). I don't think that could be done, but I have been wrong before. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

how is it going with the kraken? i remember that i came up with ideas for how this could be done :p but i have another idea! why don't you just make an explosion-animation that looks like the kraken wrapping around your ship when you hit an invisible good? and this good should be able to set your current speed to 0 if this is possible. it might also be a good thing to only allow one kraken-good at a time? and after you see the kraken wrapping its tentacles around your ship, you could cut to a clip where you see a ship beeing dragged down to the deep blue <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

think of this as a "bump"

there are animations for explosions, right? trigger an animation when you hit this good. just an idea

Triggering it wouldn't be the problem; where would the animation itself come from?

instead of an explosion, there could be a tentacle, or many tentacles, and instead of fire, there could be slashing tentacles. and if you trigger it so the animations are done, lets say, from the middle of the ship, on the portside and starbord, the huge tentacles could wrap around the ship

The question remains: how do you make these animations? Because I honestly don't know.

Nope. Not to mention I STILL don't know how to put an animation ingame.
You need to know that before you even need an animator.
If we'd have an animator, whose animations we cannot get ingame, it's useless. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Hi im not sure if this is possible but can you take the kraken from another game and put it into potc
because tortuga 2 treasures has a kracken that attacks you and looks alrite if you guys could put that into the game that would be awsome then every one can put there ideas together cause that would make the game alot harder and funer because you can encounter the kraken <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

But how to handle it code-wise? I stand by my original idea that the "floating goods" idea is probably the most realistic and doable.
All we'd need is some tentacle models and someone to code it.

Or an animator. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Yea that way sounds alot easyer if you did make one would use a ship
or create a body for the kracken or would you just have the tenticols rise up
and your ship takes damage

My idea is to generate floating tentacle "goods" in the water and when you sail over them, your ship takes damage.
It's far from being a perfect solution, but I know for a fact that it would be possible.
Unlike other suggestions involving animated models you can fight with spears from your ship's deck and things like that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Guess what I'm trying here... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

XDDDDD

nice one, Pieter. looks like you're in for a serious boarding problem =P

i think i speak for everyone when i say this is appreciated. experiments like this could quite possibly result in a beneficial breakthrough

Actually, that particular experiment already did yield the results I wanted.
I just can't finish the mod without some help from one of our modelers, because it's not boats I want there. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Another picture from the version that's working nicely:

I'm just having <i>too much fun</i> here! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

This appears quite useful for the death of HMS Endeavour in AWE too.
