The Kraken *WIP*

At the moment, there will NEVER be a Kraken attack, unless you deliberately trigger one yourself through the console, like Captain Maggee says.
Codewise, it should be able to target other ships, though I haven't actually tested that.
We might be able to have the Kraken attack at random, but I'm not sure if that would be a good idea.
Not everybody likes fantasy elements in their game, so I think those kinds of things should be limited to storyline-only.

The (non-existing) tentacles are floating goods, so firing on those would do you no good.
You might be able to avoid some of them if your ship is small and manoeuvrable enough, though this is really quite hard.
We could increase the distance of the tentacles to make it easier to avoid them, but on larger ships, there's nothing much you can do.
 
This appears quite useful for the death of HMS Endeavour in AWE too.

um i have a suggestion isnt it whould be awesome if the dutchman itself only can call the kraken to whoop ships out? i mean when have a fight with the dutchman and you manage to escape then the dutchman will call the kraken to finish u off then his movie suggestion willl be put there with explosion of thoes thingy or the kraken can be encouter too without the dutchman in ur sight or when ur playing the dutchman a special ability of call the kraken when ur bored of chasing fleeng ships isnt it will be cooler? the only way to escape or win is fighting courageously then boars or sink the dutchman then when u caotured the dutchman automaticly wears the davy jones outfit ohhhh i cant wait for thata to happen! ps (URUK)
 
uruk. it isn't needed to get the davy jones outfit. to use the kraken i think. it isn't said that only davy jones can order it but it's dead before Will takes control.
 
We've had the idea for a while and even some thoughts on how to code it.
However, we don't know exactly how to write the code and we've got several other priorities as well.
Hopefully... one day... :shrug
 
Guess what I just did? I added a button to the battle interface that allows you to summon an instant Kraken Attack on any ship!

Now to limit that to just the Flying Dutchman, eh? Maybe some distance limitation too and stuff like that.
Maybe only just once in a certain time interval or so, otherwise things get rather overpower. But I've got the concept working alright! :woot
 
At the moment, I've got it set up so that:
- You can only call the attack if you have the FlyingDutchman or CursedDutchman
- You can't call an attack if an attack is already in progress
- You can only call an attack on enemy ships that are within battle range

Does that sound about right?

One thing I would say is that this should probably be limited to the Cursed Dutchman only.
The Dutchman under Will's command cannot summon the Kraken, seeing as it's dead by that time. :wp

That would make sense, but do we want to limit it that much? For now, I've got it for both, though it's easily changed.

Well think about it. If I hadn't mentioned that, I'm sure others would pick up on it. You know there are people who want us to follow the films as accurately as possible. :rolleyes:
 
Then technically shouldn't it be dependent on the character model and name? Only when you're Davy Jones? But outfits are cheap and you can change your name whenever, so that's not fair.
 
Hmm, maybe it's best to stick to requiring only the ship, not the character, for the ability.
We'll only be bombarded with requests asking "How do I play as Davy Jones and get the Flying Dutchman?" :urgh

This is more of an easter egg anyway, isn't it? I just did it to showcase better that, yes, we do have a Kraken attack in there.
Before, we had the code in place, but it was basically never used, which is rather a shame because quite some hard work went into that and not just on my part either.
 
Yes, an Easter egg is a nice way of putting it. It's just an extra something for the player to discover in the archipelago, which is already teeming with hidden surprises. :cheeky
 
The ship connection would make more sense in general, since it's got the tool for summoning it. It's not just a personal connection.

I've now made each Kraken tentacle four times stronger and decreased the number of tentacles by a factor 4 as well. This should give the Kraken less arms.
