There Once was a Pirate from Limerick...

That may not be enough, but thanks and save some Guinness for me!
Maybe I can get Rico to help bail me out:

<b>Say Hello to Rico's Little Friend!</b>

Young Rico set off from the quay,
As the Bold British Admiral Makkay,
Set course for far shores,
With his four Man O'Wars,
You were best to stay out of his way.

What a riot... I never was much of a poet, tho I do tend to suffer from what an author/friend described as "logorrhea" (diarrhea of the pen, or in my case, keyboad, LOL!)...

There once was a pirate named Duncan,
who was so often terribly drunken.
His walk was a fright
He would list left and right
And fall downstairs with thunderous thumpin'!

Sir Chris sailed tew KR in a lugger,
Silehard an' de three pirates cried, "Bugger!"
He did streak through the Maze,
Left Temple in a daze,
But took de Black Pearl like a mugger!

Third Cit. Your name, sir, truly.
Cin. Truly, my name is Cinna.
Sec. Cit. Tear him to pieces; he’s a conspirator.
Cin. I am Cinna the poet, I am Cinna the poet.
Fourth Cit. Tear him for his bad verses, tear him for his bad verses.

Three pirates, the minstrel did sing,
Said, "Rum makes us strong, gives us wings."
They scanned o'er the sea,
Then shouted with glee,

Sometimes, I write other things...

Catalina

When went seaward
a maiden
or waterborne goddess
more regal in the pursuit
of her own casual
and carefree merriment?
I could dine on a laugh
after a thousand days
at sea
and return willingly
to water.
I am adrift
so much jetsam
were it not for a passing bottle
a word
a pause of hers
for me
on an ebb and tide
of chance meeting
I will never stand again
on earth
save a tether of flaxen cord
bind me to
the sea.

Here's another subject suitable for verse from Homer:

<b>8Q + 8Q = Trouble!</b>

For 8Q, there's few moments prouder,
Carrying cold steel with balls, flint and powder,
Than a foe he can cross,
And show whom is the boss,
And then blow the jerk's ship into chowder!

Speaking of William Blake, here's a parody of one of Blake's poems that was done by Homer:

<b>The Vassal</b>

Vassal! Vassal! cannons bright,
Upon the ocean, in the night,
What ancient gunner's practiced eye
Could match your firing symmetry?

And when your foes throw down their spears,
And water heaven with their tears,
Do you smile upon the sight you see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

Vassal! Vassal! cannons bright,
Upon the ocean, in the night,
What ancient gunner's practiced eye
Could match your firing symmetry?

(Some call it parody, others grand larceny...)

A pirate who lived on Tobago
Sailed off to see Old San Diego.
Espying a ship,
he cried, "Round, double quick!"
And plundered a cargo of sago.

I was looking at a website with some Edward Lear limericks, which prompted my little "steal" of his "There was an old man of Tobago" line for my above piratey limerick. Lear is a master of unusual combinations and nonsensical words - check some of these out:

There was an Old Man of Hong Kong,
Who never did anything wrong.
He lay on his back,
With his head in a sack,
That innocuous Old Man of Hong Kong.

There was an Old Man on the Border,
Who lived in the utmost disorder;
He danced with the Cat,
And made Tea in his Hat,
Which vexed all the folks on the Border.

There was an Old Person of Putney,
Whose food was roast spiders and chutney,
Which he took with his tea
Within sight of the sea,
That romantic Old Person of Putney.

There was an Old Person of Ware
Who rode on the back of a Bear;
When they ask'd, 'Does it trot?'
He said, 'Certainly not!
He's a Moppsikon Floppsikon Bear!'

There was an Old Man of Thermopylae,
Who never did anything properly;
But they said, 'If you choose
To boil Eggs in your Shoes,
You shall never remain in Thermopylae.'

There was a Young Lady of Portugal,
Whose ideas were excessively nautical:
She climbed up a tree,
To examine the sea,
But declared she would never leave Portugal

There was an Old Man who, when little,
Fell casually into a Kettle;
But, growing too stout,
He could never get out,
So he passed all his life in that Kettle. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Lady Cat,
it is astonishing how far good rum, true religion, and the excellant limericks you have posted here have gone towards mollifying me.Truly, I was on the verge, in response of your parody of me, of obtaining a parrot that I could teach to say,"I'm a renegade modder and I NEED MORE RUM!" or "There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"!" and then bang his head on electronic devices in "parroty" of you. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I especially like your "Tobago" adaptation, but must confess myself ignorant of what sago is, however, be assured that it is still funny, I am uncertain of what a "groin in the cable" is as well, but I still enjoyed the poem. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />:

Long post here, in anticipation of Cookies' return from his lateste expedition, I post this here, by Homer again, to welcome him back:

<b>Cookie's Foolproof Recipie For Good Crew Morale</b>

Brave Cookie wins fights smooth as silk,
fighting pirates, and those of their ilk,
But at Quarter to Three,
Where so 'er they may be,
His men break out the cookies and milk.

A "groin in the cable" be a coil, twist or unexpected knoting one encounters while rolling up a rope. When the rope gives ye trouble while coiling, that's a groin in the cable.

Yer nautical term for the day.

Aye.

Sir Christopher, you can get as "parroty" as you wish, you have at least ONE in this audience that is appreciably entertained! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Sago is a type of palm, and natives grind up the pithy center to get a starchy flour that can be used in making puddings & such... It is exported as a food item, and also can be used as a textile starch.

Here's a recipe for Saksak (Sweet Sago Dumpling), should you ever happen upon a cargo of sago:

<a href="http://www.`topics-mag`.com/foods/christine/saksak.htm" target="_blank">http://www.`topics-mag`.com/foods/...tine/saksak.htm</a>

Sounds delicious! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Should go well with the cookies and milk! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Many thanks to you both, my education has been remiss in so many ways. To quote my dear friend Sir Andrew Aguecheek,
"I would I had bestowed that time in the tounges that I have in fencing, dancing and bearbaiting. O, had I but followed the arts!"
Twelfth Night Act I sc. iii

You remind me that there is not an occasion, when I visit PA, that I do not learn something new, or find myself exposed to some very original thinking. Rum to you both. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Right back at you, Lady Cat, it is devilishly hard to find a spirit that will tolerate my attempts at humor with as much grace and forebearance as you exhibit, as well as giving back as good as you get. very clever that "parotty", of mine, do you smoke me? Parrotty and parody, what, what? Mad Jack, it is my understanding, is also due back soon and to welcome him, I offer this Homerian verse:

<b>Mad Jack and Englishmen go out in the Midday Sun...</b>

Upon larceny Mad Jack doth muse.
Settin' out on a piratin' cruise,
Full of nautical blenches,
And Spanish Main wenches,
And exotic antipodes booze.

(I borrowed blenches from that "other" bard named Will.)

Isn't it time we all made our way to the waterfall and started the wekend? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
