CLEARWATER BEACH
Man accused of burglarizing Captain Memo's
There is no indication that Kyle Sailers is a real pirate. But police say that didn't stop him from burglarizing a pirate ship attraction at Clearwater Beach Marina early Tuesday. Sailers, 24, of Indian Rocks, faces felony burglary charges after police say he smashed the window of a ticket booth at Captain Memo's Original Pirate Cruise, 25 Causeway Blvd. Marina guards witnessed Sailers burglarize the building, police say. When later confronted by authorities, he jumped from the ship, said police spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts. Two police dogs and the Coast Guard were called to help search the water, where Sailers was later found hiding under a boat, Watts said. "A year ago exactly, we had the same incident," said Pam Wozencraft, who has owned the business for 32 years. Last August, she said, a homeless person broke the booth's 2- by 3-foot window. Wozencraft believes burglars are looking for the pirate ship's keys. "There's just junk stuff in there," she said. "Nothing you could sell." Sailers was being held Tuesday afternoon on $5,000 bail at the Pinellas County Jail.
