Improvement of the HMS Victory.

Both tabs are working fine for me; I don't know what's wrong for you... :?
Try clearing your browser's temporary internet files or something.

Er, no need... it's ok now.
I did nothing but open the browser earlier, and managed to log out successfully for the first time in a couple of days! xD:
I wonder what it was...? At least it's fixed now.

I'm going to be incredibly picky here, so please don't shoot me if I'm sounding too harsh. xD:
There's a couple of things about the HMS Victory model, in my opinion, which could be slightly adjusted to make her even closer to perfection:

  1. The bow needs a slight colour change (and the same for the quarterdeck)
  2. The stern needs changing a bit (nameplate needs updating, wooden beams need moving)
If these thing could be done, this ship would be even closer to the real thing... :luv
But if not, no worries; she's absolutely stunning even without them! I'm just being a perfectionist here. :razz

Beautiful ship, mate! Recommend making the pennants a bit higher and less long to prevent the English flag from looking "squashed".

Also, I might be imagining it, but are the pennants properly attached to the masts?
And I just saw a crewmember walking down through the deck and then through the closed captain's cabin door.

Again with the rigging... again it's my doing...
Have you seen just how long some pennants were in the day? 'Very' is the answer. I'd estimate (I may be wrong), that the flags on some of our ships are not long enough! But if these seem too long, I can do something about it if you so wish.
As for your second point, I think some of the pennants are attached by two small bits of rope; they aren't floating randomly.

I wasn't sure; they looked like they might be attached with a rope, which is cool. I couldn't always see the rope though... :facepalm

And historically pennants could be VERY long, but especially with some nations' pennants, their national emblems on there could end up looking quite distorted. Notable offenders are the Dutch, French and English, especially in the earlier periods.

The earlier pennants don't affect Victory, but I did only test her with English flags, and they looked fine to me.
But I'm only guessing how they should look, so maybe they should be shortened slightly.

Well, as long as you're happy, I am. And you do make a point:
if they look fine with their proper nations' pennants, we don't need to worry too much about the others. :cheeky

I tweaked some of them anyway, namely I shortened the one on the bowsprit, and move the one on the mizzenmast up a bit more.
Now
I'm confident that it looks right. :onya

I just noticed the Victory has her name on the stern. This makes her unusable, except when we actually need the real HMS Victory.
However, we never do use the HMS Victory in the game, so I reckon it might be better to take the name off. :?

As much as that pains me, you do have a point. And I tried using the same argument for the latest Surprise; surely we should have a named one for the M&C quest?
So if we are to have her name removed, perhaps some other teeny tiny bits could be done at the same time... like what I mentioned a few posts ago on the 17th September...? :wp

For the Surprise, we could keep one named version, but should it be the historical or the movie one? Probably the movie one, eh?
But then since there IS no Master and Commander storyline in the works, we probably won't be including that storyline in Build 14 anyway.

I think Jack Harrison originally had a name on the WIP Surprise, then removed it for generalisation, so I guess it would be fairly simple for him to make a named version. :shrug
And I swear someone WAS working on a M&C quest... what happened there? :?

There's been people wanting to work on it and maybe someone even started, but nobody got very far, no WIP stuff was ever released and they've all left.

Another story of mysteriously disappearing modders and lost work? Not again! :modding

I recently decided to do some work on Victory's texture, to make her more true to the real thing. :keith
As well as changing the nameplate, I also removed it in another version (which would be the generic encounter-able one).
I was thinking that maybe we could make the named Victory a unique Vanderdecken ship... :wp

Note: the black patches on the hull are side effects of the re-texturing, and I can't do anything about them.
But luckily they're 99% invisible while at sea in-game. :cheeky

What happened to get those black patches there? Very strange! :shock

Anyway, looks good, mate! As for named versions though, I'm inclined to go with unnamed ships only,
unless the named one has purpose as unique storyline ship. But then we don't need an identical unnamed one.
Otherwise we end up with doubles again. :facepalm
