Solved Updating the Worldmap

Is it possible to place cities on the mainland?
Should be, yes. We've got Cartagena as a location already in the game (not used on any islands), so that will be the first mainland city.

EDIT: Want to try it! Want to try it! I guess it won't be possible without a new game?

I don't know if a new game will be needed, but I'll let you know once I've tested it.

Are any of the other islands going to be rotated or moved?

None have been/will be rotated because that would also mean rotating the island models seen in 3D sailing mode.
And hopefully I won't need to move any more islands, unless anyone has any objections to the proposed layout.

I likey! :onya

Once the code is done, a new game will be required yes.
But there's still a long way to go before we have it working properly in the game.

ooh :( will it take long?^^ Well anyway, I can't download anything at the moment (it takes more than 30 seconds to load this website -.-)

I still can't emphasize enough how f*cking awesome this new map is!

ooh :( will it take long?^^

I need to export the model from Maya to the game's GM format, make sure the game works with it, and then modify all the coordinates which define where the ports and shores are on the map, among other things.
Hopefully this won't take too long if it all goes according to plan. ;)

OMG it actually works! :monkeydance
I exported the model without any issues and did a quick test in the game. See for yourself:

As you can see, I still need to move all the locators for the islands, towns and shores, and the sea texture needs to be modified, but the rest already works a charm.
The islands and the mainland have proper collision, and there is no noticeable slow-down when navigating the map with all these extra polygons.

I dare say this is truly AWESOME. :dance

would be fun to unlock and then search isla muerta in center x)

edit: also the global map will need to be improved XD (and probably new maps for the potantial new area in future ^^)

Cheers mates! :cheers

I've just finished fixing the sea texture, so here's a top-down render of the entire playable area of the new map:
WorldMap_new9.jpg
I just need to move all the coordinates later, and then it should be ready for public testing.

Holy crap on a cracker! That looks awesome! Actually, you're making the worldmap look like a whole new game! :bow

Out of curiosity, what are those bright blue outlines around the islands on that top view?

The Map Interface should auto-update when you adjust the world-map coordinates. But the Map Item needs redoing for with and without Open Sea Mod.
And any dialogs where directions and courses are mentioned (mainly Jack Sparrow and Hornblower storylines) will need updating.

That'll be easy. :cheeky

I don't think we should add more islands compared to this; there's plenty to go around.
But with the "Isla de Muerte" system, we can easily add temporary quest "islands", such as Pelegostos, Singapore, London or whatever else we need.
And it'll even look good with some arrows or other 3D icons to use instead of "plenty palm trees"! :woot

you are just close to be my god ! :woot

this is... purely awesome ! exiting ! nice ! beautiful ! perfect ! fun ! great ! good ! :bounce

the only thing we will "need" in future is to "visit" that new big mainland, but thats another work and area to think :onya

a damn good job ! i will drink my entire water bottle just for your achievement opening much possibilities ! :rumgone

i talk about ITEM maps, not new (permanent) island, if we have to had areas to visit, we will put them on the new "mainland"

great Idea! I think cities like London and Singapore should be available all the time because they were rather important cities. Maybe that you can't access them until sailing lvl 10 or so?
And would it be possible to adjust the time? So that you enter the arrow for London and when you get back to sea its weeks later?

The islands remain the same, so the maps can stay as well. Not sure what new ones we'd need.
Perhaps one for the mainland, but right now we only have Cartagena.

If someone adds them, we can do that. Provided there is some purpose to it.
But if we add the locations, the quest purpose follows. :cheeky

That would be my idea, yes. Perhaps with a confirmation to check if you have enough food and rum for the journey.

yes sounds pretty good!. Well Jack Sparrow does need London and Singapore, but that's a long way from the story we are at the moment.
In the other storylines we could include them for sidequests, and maybe we could add London for Horatio Hornblower?

yes but the mainland map is the one showing where to do the convoy/cargo mission, where treasure are and your current location (of your ship)

so its really the most important (i use it a great lot and its REALLY useful for convoy/cargo mission <= always using it for that and also to check my location on sea)

Exactly. Plenty of opportunity for putting them to good use!
But if we ARE going outside the Caribbean, the towns had better look well different!

What towns are there in Voyage Century Online? That's where Bartolomeu got one of the Cartagena locations from.
That looks fairly European. What else is there?
