Another Fine Mesh...

I put all the reskinned textures on the ftp so you can use them ingame. You can find the New MadJack textures.rar in my FTP folder.

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Let me reiterate, Kazeite, if you hadn't tipped me off to scaling the models to a larger size for importing, I'd probably still be staring at my computer screen wondering why the heck this doesn't work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" /> Thanks again! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

I have an update on the Catalina the Pirate model, I was able to set the model up for better importing and the model not only works better, the hands look a lot better when they use the swords and pistols. Still not 100%, but again there is nothing moving the hands after importing with TOOL, so this is about as good as it's going to get. I experimented a bit with trying to move the sword and pistol locator position, but the model basically went haywire everytime it tried using the sword and pistol, with the new coordinates. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

Again, if you're already using this model you do not have to start a new game to get the update, just replace the .gm file, which is on the FTP, and the model should work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

BTW: Even new models can work without starting a new game. Just put it in initModels.c and peform a reinit. It's been like that since at least Build 12 or possibly even Build 11. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I think it was Build 12 because I remember not wanting to download the Build and lose a really high level game I had. That the gms update even in a saved game, without reinitializing is really helpful because I test the models I'm working on in the game, and it's nice not having to start a new game every time you make a change; just load the save file... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

This model nearly drove me nuts because it politely declined to be imported for as long as it could. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> I don't know that anyone would want to use this model as a player character or officer, but it just looked like a model that could be useful in the game somehow. Also I know how much Thomas the Terror likes those manga textures... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

<img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/332ZK34H/1109315.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

I forgot to put it in the picture, but I experimented with making a "talking head" model for this model; he can't move his mouth, but he does hop around a bit when you talk to him. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" /> I may play around with the texture at some point because it occurred to me if the model was made to look a little more sinister it might make a good Mateus Santos model.

Like the coat, but hate the manga <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Nice model, but his head seems tiny.

That looks really cool! He's probably not very appropriate as a player model, but he'd make a great GOVERNOR of one of the new islands. We could have Nathan Kell as governor of Turks, which is quickly becoming the "modders island" thanks to the efforts of our questwriters. I am already there in several quests and Short Jack Gold is now adding many of the other modders in a part of the Beatrice Devlin quest. I think it only owes fair to have Nathan as governor of that crowd. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Alternatively he could be the governor of Eleuthera, which is English first and becomes a United States town in the last two periods. Do you happen to know if Nathan is American?

BTW: I don't care much for manga. I hate that in AoP. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Another question: do you still have your own Sir Christopher Mings model available anywhere? We could very much use that one for that part in the Beatrice Devlin quest I referred to. Short Jack Gold has added you there as well and, if I understood correctly, even made a quest for you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

It's probably my eyes - but doesn't he look like Cutler Beckett? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Interesting. Perhaps we could indeed use a retexture of that model as Beckett. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

His head does look a little out of proportion to the rest of him, but if I make it bigger the model's seams won't line up and you get a gap. Most of the VC models appear to have separate heads from the bodies, which is a good thing because you can put just about any head model onto any body model, but the downside is that they also appear to require some level of compromise so they can be imported. I still have lots to learn on this, but I can tell you I'm really enjoying myself working on this <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" /> ... mostly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I'm still a little confused by the term "manga" as we're using it, but I'm thinking the color choices on the bicorn hat are a good example. Where I like the texture on the ornament on the hat, the blue and red colors make him look a little like Captain Crunch. I'm really not putting any time or effort into the textures for these models, and I'm thinking that since doing retextures is one of the most accessible methods of modding the game, my <i>modus operandi </i>is to provide working meshes that other modders might be inspired to try to retexture that, otherwise, wouldn't be available. Besides that, I'm not that crazy about my own texture work... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

Pieter, Is Nathan American? I couldn't say, but I don't imagine he would necessarily mind being assigned as a governor of an American holding in the Caribbean. (Huh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> ) Likewise to augment the compliment you paid to Nathan, that he would be a good choice to oversee as governor a community made up of modders, the equally obvious choice for that role is you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

I'm in a quest? What am I doing? Hiding and looking for free drinks? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" /> I have a retexture of the Silehard model that I tried to make resemble the historical Sir Christopher Mings or Myngs, but I was only playing around with it so I could take in game pictures of me wandering around with Fred Bob; I never released a model. I was toying with the idea of putting the model in one of the cells in Santos' dungeon, with some silly dialouge, but I was concerned that no one would let me out! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> I'll look around my old files and see if I have anything; I may add a goblet and a cigarette to his hands though, so I'm not sure how helpful I'll be in any altercations. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

The term "manga" refers to the comics drawn in Japan, although in this case, it refers to the fact that this guy supposedly looks like he's from Japan. However, I must confess that he doesn't look oriental to me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Pieter, I still haven't rummaged around for my Ol' Mings model, but I'll see what I can do, in the meantime I've been trying to get a mesh together for Davy Jones.

<img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/332ZK34H/1110565.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<i>Edit: Updated this picture on 7/29/08. So sue me, I'm hoarding my Pix8 account...</i>

This file is on the FTP in the Another Fine Mesh Folder, and in a file named KazBoPHer. This model is named after Kazeite, Bartholomew O' Portugues and Heretik who created the first working Davy Jones model for the game and inspired this attempt. I guess I should have named it KazBoPHerRaz, and adding Razor, but I only just found out that he was working on a model. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

The file only contains the gm for Davey Jones and the textures I used that came from the original models. This model is another Frankenstein, made up of pieces from various games. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/treas1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":treas" border="0" alt="treas1.gif" /> I'll start working on making a "talking head" model, but it should be fairly apparent that the current textures need some care and attention. I posted this picture in a thread that Zodiac 125 started, but if anyone else wants to work on this feel free. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/monkeydance.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mi" border="0" alt="monkeydance.gif" />

That looks pretty good, actually. The texture definitly needs some work, but the model certainly looks more like Davy Jones than any other model I've seen put in the game so far. Good job! VERY good job! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
