Ok here is what I've been working on. A friend gave me 4.5 so I've been try to learn it as it is much different to use than 3Dsmax. I am creating a couple of be BERMUDA SLOOPS. they were popular in the caribbean from early 1700s to the early 1800s with pirates, smugglers, and some were even captured and put in the royal navy as they were fast and maneuverable had a shallow draft for getting into coves and unp rivrs were very sea worthy and stable for shooting guns. I am making one that like the typical real one of about 19 meters long that carried ten 4pdrs or 6pdrs. And a custom version one about 30 meters long that should be able to carry ten 24pdrs or 32pdrs. I should be able to finish these in the next couple days and then I will need some help to getting them to in the game.

I'm just in the process of learning how to put ships in game and I'm putting together an installer that will put all the new ships in game, so if I can help I will.

Now does any one know what how high of limit poly count for new ships is? I don't want to slow the game down or make it crash? And how big can the texture files be to map the texutres for the new ships can they be larger than the original ones in the game?
 
she looks good so far but dont waste your time putting sails at all .the game adds them in.also all take the masts off they are loaded into the game seperate from the ship,each mast and its parts all have their own object files.I will give you more pointers as you progress with the ship. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Please try to keep the poly count within a reasonable limit. I don't know what the amount of polys is on Inzane's Surprise, but I would think you shouldn't use much more polys than that ship. The texture files can be larger than the original texture if you want them to be; I think 4096x4096 would even work. But like with the polycount: Just try to keep the texture size as low as you can without sacrificing too much detail. A less detailed ship that does work is better than a very good model that you can only look at as if in a screenshot. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
 
i think i heard a while ago [ like maybe a year and a half ago ] that the limit was about 70,000 polys, not sure though.
anyway, good luck with the Bermuda Sloops, and will that 30 meter one have more than ten guns?
being nearly double the length of the 19 meter one it would have more room for guns, right?
 
Thanks Pieter and Lord Nelson the I decided to go ahead and make 3 sizes. A 19 meter a 23 meter amd a 32 meter.
the 19 meter will be an almost exact copy of the original ship which had 10 3pdrs or 4pdrs. The 23 meter ship I scaled up enough to be able to carry 6pdrs. And with the 32 meter sloop i wanted a super sloop that could carry 32 pdrs - 5 on each side 2 aft and 2 bow chasers and a longer run for more speed and more cargo area for all that plunder!

here is update
The sloops are almost done just a few more small details and to do the textures.
please to see that all 3 sloops have a helm ships wheel and you will be able to walk into the captains cabin and even look out and in the windows. so far poly count is at about 4,500 and after i add a few more details will be about 5,000 total for the each ship not include sails and masts i just put them there to see what finish ships will lok like.

32 pounders sound rather excessive for a sloop of any kind.
