i real need help to learn how to make locators for the ship in maya.
is there any who can help?

Inzane can you help?

anyone please?

I'm sorry. I wished I could help you, but I know nothing about Maya. All I know is that you can add locators with Inez's tool, but it isn't easy, because you have to manually do it and you can't do it in 3D. Inzane mentioned that Maya <i>can</i> do it in 3D somehow though. In case he doesn't read this thread, you could try sending him a PM to make sure he sees it.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> Thanks to all for very kind words!

i still working very hard to get bermuda sloops in game as i not being any to help me for the time being. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

every one tell me to keep poly count less than 7,000 so i worked very hard to keep poly count low and still add much detail as possible i also notice that ship in original game seem to have no more than about 8,000 poly count for largest ships in original game so it seem to be right? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

if you look back at post with all pictures i update some pictures as i put accident older pictures that did not show steps on side of ship. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

poly count is still 5,943 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Please try to keep the poly count within a reasonable limit. I don't know what the amount of polys is on Inzane's Surprise, but I would think you shouldn't use much more polys than that ship. The texture files can be larger than the original texture if you want them to be; I think 4096x4096 would even work.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Pieter in recent post you now say no more than 2048x2048? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I made spended 3 weeks and more than 100 hours making textures and mapping to ship my file to size 4096x2048 base on what you and you say will not work? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

My heart is very sad about this or is there easy way to fix this without have to texture map ships all again a repeat?

Please help! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

You certainly will not have to remap the entire ship. If the worst comes to the worst, you can just resize your current texture to 50% of it's original size. This should not make any difference to the texture maps on the model. The only difference would be that the textures would be less sharp. The plus point would be that your model would run more smoothly in the game.

The problem is not that the game won't work with 4096x4096, but the TX Converter for converting .tga files to .tga.tx will not convert anything larger than 2048x2048. I didn't know about this problem until yesterday though. If you can find a program that will also convert .tga to .tga.tx, that might solve it. Unfortunately, I know of no such program.

Once again, I greatly apologize for saying something that wasn't true. I thought it would work; I didn't know it wouldn't convert. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ib012.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cry" border="0" alt="ib012.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> Pieter so sorry for panic <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" /> after i take care to resize from 4096x2048 change to 2048x2048 some look better than before and other not that much to notice differ. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Thank you Pieter for easy solve to save me many more hours work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I now continue frustrate work to find out how to put ships in the game! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
It very sad that no one is here to help learn how? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

What program are you using? I know how to convert .wml files to .gm, though I don't know how to add collision or locators. You can do it manually with Inez's tool, but I can imagine that is very annoying work.

Captain Augast,

I believe that in another post you said you had Maya 4.5
Have you tried this plug-in yet? Apparently it converts .ma & .mb files to the POTC .gm format. It only works with 4.5 though.

Plug-in: <a href="http://robotsdontbleed.com/suraknar/tools/PLUG.rar" target="_blank">http://robotsdontbleed.com/suraknar/tools/PLUG.rar</a>

Also at <a href="http://robotsdontbleed.com/wacko/wakka.php?wakka=ModdingTools&v=10ku" target="_blank">http://robotsdontbleed.com/wacko/wakka.php...ingTools&v=10ku</a>

there are many tools that may be helpful, such a a walkfile generator and a tool for location editing.

I haven't got as far as using any of them as yet because I have only re-modeled an existing ship, (the deck and rigging have remained the same) so sorry I can't be of morre help other than pointing you in the right direction.

A question for you: Do you know anything about texture mapping in maya?

Pieter i have use maya unlimited 4.5 that i purchase on ebay 4 month ago. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Capt Jackamo i also found same link to tutorials and tools and i have sd2export tool that will convert maya 4.5 file to potc .gm is now in my maya 4.5 and is install correct and i know now how to make and name locators in maya.

Trouble and frustrate is i try to find correct names for all locators and need correct order for them to be go in for correct hierarchy in hypergraph? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
I search many web site and no tutorial on how to do this part or to put ships in to game? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I make all original 3d from scratch 3d ships and 3d objects for my ships so yes i had to learn how to know how to texture map in maya 4.5 if you look back ## posts i show many pictures of complete texture map ship.
Do you have question about?
I can to try help.

Have you had a look through the <a href="http://robotsdontbleed.com/wacko/wakka.php?wakka=POTCwiki" target="_blank">PotC Wiki</a>?

I've found a good basic texture mapping tutorial for Maya
here: <a href="http://www.jawa9000.com/technical/UVs/UVs.htm" target="_blank">http://www.jawa9000.com/technical/UVs/UVs.htm</a>
