BERMUDA SLOOPS

Aye mate, even 12 pounders seem rather heavy... then you would start to look at brigs. 8 or 9 pounders seems proper.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Merciless and Commodore
Yes you both are correct!
sorry i made mistake with my math too much late night punching numbers on calculator is not always so good! lol

I recalculated math the 32 meter sloop tonnage would be about a 350 tonnage ship and could only comfortable and safe to carry about 45,000 weight of cannons with carriages.
total for 32pdrs with carriages would wiegh 74,400!
much to much!
so 32 meter sloop with could not have that many 32pdrs.
Equiped with the 12pdrs would weigh 45,600 which would be close to perfect, or if i reduce to 3 cannons per side and 1 bow chaser 32pdrs would weigh 43,400 which would be close to perfect as well.
what do you think?
i can not make sloop much more than 32 meters to be able to carry more or weight of cannons as 32 meters this seems to have been the physical limit for this type of sails rig and time period.

I will make correctt and then start texturings on to sloops.

Skull and Nelson i thought 70,000 poly seemed like a too much so at 5,000 poly my sloops should be fine?

Many thanks Peiter Thomas Seb Skull Nelson again again to all for all feedback and coments!

i dont think they calculated cannon caliber like that. remember, large frigates commonly only had 12 pounder long guns as the largest.

and did you take into account the cargo capacity and ballast?

Thank you Merciless Mark you bring up some good points. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

Actually that is how they figured it when designing ships. the wieght of the cannons and the distribution of that weight was very important. many naval cannons going back at least as early as the early 1700s had their weight stamped into them.
history is full of many navies and captains who overgunned their ships with more than what was designed for. the results being a loss of peformance and handling, which many times led to much damage to the ships and even the loss of many ships and crew.

i don't think that a 32 meter sloop arm with ten 12 pdrs and a creew of about 60 to 80 would stand much a chance against a frigate with 24 or more 12pdrs or 18pdrs and a crew of 2 or 3 hundred or more?

for an example the actual real 280 tonnage schooner the spitfire of the which was also 32 meters long and not as wide or deep was armed with 2-32pdrs 4-9pdrs and 6 32pdrs carronades which total weight with carriages was about 41,000. my 32 meter bermuda sloop and the spifire have had similar dimensions with only big difference was they each different types of rigging. because my 32 meter sloop has a bit more tonnage at about 350 it can easily handle another 4,000 to 5,000 in gun weight for a total of about 45,000.

I will calculate cargo capacity when I get closer to be finished with them and maybe adding or taking away of ballast would make an interesting mod?

please understand that the first 2 sloops the first 19 meter sloop with 3pdrs and the second 22 meter sloop with the 6pdrs are meant to be historical accurate and based on actual ships.
the third 32 meter ship is meant to be for the fun of it but still be realistic.

Thanks and cheers to all! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

if ones really gonna get adding and removing ballast working one would need the ship to be able to keel over and sink if its too light ballast and overloaded on the top.

I really hope that your ships are allmost ready, then we have some more GOOD designed ships to chose from. Keep up the good work matey.

Thanks Jack Davidson for the good word.

Here is nother update.
i decide to finish 32 meter sloop first i call it StingRay it be well balance with 3-32pdrs on each side and 1 aft and 1 bowchaser. because it model have 6 less cannon model and gunports then do my 19 meter 3pdrs sloop and 22 meter 6pdrs sloop stingray poly count will only be about 3,000 so should work very well in game even with fleet of them! lol <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

here are some more picture to see of it.
it was hard than i thought to learn skinning and texture mapping so please forgive as i still am learning.
A bit more work and will be done soon then i will need help to learn to put in game please?

Inzane and Captain Jackamo or any one to help me please?

Texture mapping musn't be something very easy, i'll soon have to learn that i think, i'll may ask you advices ^^' Great work anyway <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Seb and Thomas and Meigger thanks for compliments. cheers! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I am trying to texture it as it was an exprivateer or smuggler that was captured and taken into the king or queens navy.
here some more pictures if you look close you can see cannon inside captains cabin am getting closer to be done may be tonight. lol <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
i still need to texture the helm ships wheel and the inside and items insude the captains cabin and a few other details.
i am going to have plenty poly count to spare so i am thinking of adding capstan and anchores what do you all think? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

If the poly counts allows for it, I would add the capstan and anchors. Man, this baby is looooking real good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
