Captain Python's POTC Movies Thread

The monkey must have already payed a blood offer, because the curse was lifted and for the curse to be lifted, all those cursed must have already made a blood offer. So I wonder: Who cut the monkey? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

Probably Barbossa, I'd imagine. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I just think that if the blood was paid and the curse lifted, if one of the original cursed (like the monkey) would come back and get his coin back, those from the original curse still alive would again be cursed... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> I dunno. There has to be a reason that darned monkey made off with that coin at the end of PotC... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

It seems that a lot of people like that monkey a lot. I really don't see that monkey as something important to me. I personally think that the curse will not play as big a part as it did in the first movie. I do think though we will be seeing that island of Ilum Dem Werta (I don't know how to spell it). For those posting on here, just as a odd pole without making one, do you absolutely want the monkey in the next sequal, dont care much, or don't want the monkey at all? Post your opinion.
My opinion, don't care much.

Ahoy, it's been a fair while since I last sailed in these waters.
Been too busy IRL.

There's been an brief interview with Orlando and Keira on BBC Radio 1 just now talking about the sequels. These were the things mentioned about the film, at least two of them are already known.

1. Two sequels will be filmed back to back.
2. Keira will have at least one sword fighting scene and will be using two swords.
3. A Kraken is in one of the films and Orlando (and I assume Johnny and Keira) will be up against it.
4. Release date should be July 2006

IMO the monkey might not have too much to do with the sequels unless as a way to bring back Barbarossa.
Orlando did say that they are doing something better then skeletons in the new films. My take on that is that the curse won't feature prominently in the films.

I don't care much for the monkey. It was fun in PotC 1, but doesn't need to be brought back. As far as I'm concerned, I'd rather see nothing of Barbossa, monkey, cursed crew, etc. back, because that would cause repeating the same stuff again in the sequel, while it's better to have all new stuff. But I do think Jack getting himself cursed on purpose might be an interesting idea.

I don't care about the monkey, per se, it's just that I saw the inclusion of that final shot with the monkey and the coin as the bridge to the next film - the theft of another cursed coin means that the curse can go on, at least for some, anyhow (the ones that survived the fight).

I'm looking at this from the viewpoint of a scriptwriter/filmmaker.

I think the whole bit with the monkey and the coin was a standard scripting tool - a "cliffhanger" question mark for the script. Who comes back next season (movie)? Will they all die, or will they all live (sign new contracts for the next installment)? The cursed coin is the instrument for bringing back some of the principals that have been done in, if they sign their contracts. If not, well, they're dead - but if they DO sign the contracts (whatever deal they've made), they're in...

The monkey is not important, except for being the vehicle for the instrument or bridge (the coin). The monkey happened to be convenient. The vehicle could have been anyone who didn't have to sign a major multi-million dollar star's contract - if it wasn't the monkey, quite possibly it <i>might</i> have been Mr. Cotton's parrot! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

The key is the coin, and how it explains away why someone who presumably has died, like Barbossa, could come back for the next movie.

UNLESS, of course, that Barbossa comes back in flashbacks or as a ghost... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I just really don't like actually bringing people back from the dead in a story, even if I do like the characters. And yes, I really DO like Barbossa a LOT! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
I'd say that, after the curse was lifted, nobody was cursed, but when the monkey took the coin again, only the monkey was cursed. If it would also auto-recurse all others that were once cursed... Well... I don't know what would happen. Might cause a bit of a story-mess if I were to try and make something of that. But I trust Ted 'n Terry to make no story-mess. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Sirus Darke, how did you get that information? Do you live in London or something?

Anyways, for me, I don't like these curses much at all. I wish I could see a new pirate movie that wasn't science fiction and was a little bit historically accurate. Now who knows how long it will take to get that to happen.

It's fantasy, not sci-fi (sci-fi deals with technological advances and science, not magic and curses like fantasy).

But I'd like to see a more realistic take in the next PotC, surely. No fantasy elements (except for the heroic heroes etc. classic must-bes). I'd prefer if the curse was left alone in the next movie and the monkey with it. If the monkey has fun as an undead, it could have its own spin-off movie rather than come spoiling the next PotC! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I think that having no supernatural elements in PotC 2 and 3 is unlikely to happen. PotC is not about a realistic pirate world; it's set in a fantasy world in which all the pirate legends, inlcuding the supernatural ones, can be true. So for everyone who wants non-supernatural pirates: Watch Cutthroat Island. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
(The movie isn't quite as bad as people make it out to be)

Hey, I was wondering if there is anyone can find out if there is a non-disney movie coming out about piracy? I would think after the success of POTC1 that some other movie maker other than Disney would try to cling onto the idea and sudden popularity of Piracy and make another movie. Also, when I say movie, I don't mean a cartoon or another version of Treasure Island (there have been so many versions of Treasure Island).

UPDATE! UPDATE!

POTC2 Filming Postponed until August!!!!

Got the news here: <a href="http://www.orlandomultimedia.net/pirate/pirateupdate.html" target="_blank">http://www.orlandomultimedia.net/pirate/pirateupdate.html</a>

I do wonder if this will ofset the release of the movie next year in July?

I wouldn't be too alarmed, mate. They were planning a haitus around this time, anyway.

And take a gander at the fellow on the left. Look familiar?

A quick update. On July 15th Johnny Depp was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He was on for his new movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In a conversation, Jay asked about getting Keith Richards in the Movie, Johnny said it was looking good. So for those who really want to see Keith Richards in the movie, there is a good chance it seems now.

I read something that Jack had a opened "bill" by Davy Jones and if Jack not "pay"the bill he`ll get cursed throught Davy Jones.

Here's a first look at Ol' Davey Jones, based upon the concept art they're working from. <a href="http://comingsoon.net/news/comicconnews.php?id=10426" target="_blank">Click Here</a>

And here's a Russian site with a TON of pictures from the filming. <a href="http://filmz.ru/pub/8/4774_1.htm" target="_blank">Click Here</a>

Wow, great pix! Some funny ones, too. The location scenery ones were very interesting...

Check out #82, Orlando looks like Artois Voysey from PotC! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Handy hint to anyone looking at the pix - if you click on the pic itself it will advance to the next pic. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

(Last one is Davey Jones!) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Just wondering why Davey Jones is the captain of the Flying Dutchman. The real captain of the Flying Dutchman was a Dutch man called Vanderdecken. Ah. Well. Having Davey Jones will be fun as well. And having the Flying Dutchman will be even more fun. You reckon the Flying Dutchman will be flying? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
