For all quest makers; Curse of the Black Pearl (re)quest

LOL. I AM working hard right now, but NOT on PotC, but on schoolwork. Going to do PotC-work again next week. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

That's a bit late, isn't it? In the film he clearly already knows about it at that point. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
He finds out that's where Barbossa is "headed" and why.

Couldn't we make it so that the player must deliberately talk to a certain character for the quest to continue? For example: Player must go to Tortuga, talk to Annamaria and get the "Jolly Mon". Then the quest will start next time the player makes port in Redmond. What ship does the player have after being rescued from the island where he was marooned? I think it'd be fun to leave the player with no ship on Tortuga, so that the player must start from the ground up again. The player can either somehow get a ship of his own and start pirating for ten years or steal the "Jolly Mon" from Annamaria and start the CotBP quest immediately. If the player got a ship of his own, he should then be given the opportunity to start the CotBP quest later. For example: Player talks to Annamaria at Tortuga, then somehow his own ship is stolen and the player must steal Annamaria's little boat.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

All possible - the original request here was "Quest part 1: You are in Redmond, and you are going to steal the Interceptor. "
As per the film the quest will trigger with Mullroy, Murtogg and Elizabeth when entering Redmond.

At the moment he leaves the island on the Tartane "Free at Last".
I can of course interpose Annamaria and the Jolly Mon.
Let me see what I can do over the next day or two.

Maybe we can use this <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> : <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=11011&view=findpost&p=218888" target="_blank">http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php...st&p=218888</a>

I think there is a fair chance we'll be able to use that, yes. About a 100% chance, I should say... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Btw guys don't forget to add that "sinking" part to the CotBP when you go to the Port Royale with that leaky gig. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Dock Master: "eh ..w ..Hold up there you (1 shilling). It's a shilling to tie up your boat to the dock (1 shilling). And i should need to know your name (1 shilling)."
Captain Jack Sparrow: "What do you say to three shillings and we forget the name?" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />
LOL! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

That's already in there, actually. You just don't see your boat sinking. We would need somebody to extract some scenes from the DVD in WMV format for usage in the game's CotBP quest.

i'd use a movie clip for that, cos actually coding it in would be incredibly difficult, i think, if not impossible.

Movie clip would be perfect. But like I said before: Somebody'd need to extract some movie clips from the DVD in WMV format.

well, i could get it. problem is, i haven't the space nor a fast enough internet connection to download it. and there are almost no movie parts from the first film at all on the internet.

err... is it possible to copy (normally i would say cut, but that doesn't sound right) something out of the DVD by putting it in your computer?

It is possible to rip DVDs to AVI (with or without DVIX/XVID compression). I did this occasionally in the past. It should also be possible to convert such a file to WMV and seperate the scenes we need to seperate files. It requires a lot of time and HD space though.

Not me, I'm afraid. I have too much on my plate as it is. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

i wasn't asking you, because we all know that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> i'm out of the question too.

I just searched for "DVD to WMV" on Google and came up with this: <a href="http://www.dvd-wmv.com/" target="_blank">http://www.dvd-wmv.com/</a>
Perhaps somebody can try and use that program or something similar and see if we can get those scenes extracted. We don't need the entire film, just a couple of scenes. Most notably:
- Jack's entrance into the film
- Elizabeth falling of the rocks and Jack rescuing her
- Barbossa's speach to the crew in the cave

something that i've been wondering about is this:

how was the battle between the interceptor and the pearl managed?

<!--quoteo(post=222474:date=Nov 20 2007, 08:43 PM:name=Morgan Terror)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Morgan Terror @ Nov 20 2007, 08:43 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->how was the battle between the interceptor and the pearl managed?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Right now it is the player fighting some immortal skeletons on a ship deck until Barbossa appears. I think this scene can use some expanding. Also the whole Dauntless scene is not there yet. Still improvement is being made. The Will Turner fight was missing before, but Short Jack Gold added that one now. In the shipyard rather than the blacksmith, because there's just not enough space for a swordfight in the Redmond blacksmith.

it could be interesting that the player would encounter the pearl at some island, and would then be unable to use fast travel to get away. there's no way a brig could fight the pearl, so it might work out right. although, how to prevent the player from being sunk, or more precise, being killed from sinking?

this doesn't seem like such a good idea to me, but i thought i'd just throw it in. the current system is better, but an actual ship battle would be nice. what if you'd encounter the pearl, and when it comes within a certain distance, boarding starts? then there would at least be some sort of chase.

It would be cool if we could manage that. For now I think we're working on just getting the quest there and then expanding and improving upon it.
