For all quest makers; Curse of the Black Pearl (re)quest

there's one problem though: the player can tack. the pearl doesn't. to elaborate on this idea: it would be cool if we would play 'barbossa is hungry' at that time. i think that would be quite possible, maybe even easy to do. the problem of it would be not having it play at the same time as the regular soundtrack, and making it stop at the right time.
 
Perhaps just some sort of quest delay? But I don't know if it is feasable to add quest events at sea. I tried with the First Contact quest to have Davy Jones visit you aboard your own ship and that seems to have worked. But I seem to have error messages when closing the game now on occasion that seem to have to do with sailing in 3D sailing mode. Very weird. I am not sure if my quest stuff actually IS the case, but I DO seem to have it since just about the time I was messing around with that. I'll have to check it at some point.
 
well, iwas actually meaning that it should happen at an island. that works, as was proven in the old main quest. at sea would be better, but at an island would be easier to do.
 
But you would need to have some sort of boarding with quest events, wouldn't you? I wonder how that should be handled code-wise. I sincerely hope that weird error message upon closing my game is NOT caused by my on-sea quest encounter. The encounter itself DOES work, so if it isn't the cause for that extremely weird issue, we might be able to use the same technique. It is pretty cool, actually.
 
yes, and i mean that the excisting boarding event or something similar should occur when the pearl gets within a certain range.
 
I f it helps at all, i have CotBP and am willing to cut out specific bits into wmv format, 1 problem though... whenever ive done it in the past, the audio has been out of sync, and i can never seem to get it sorted

if i provided the clips, is there somene who can sync the audio?

If you could do the bit of Elizabeth falling from the battlements into the water - I will see what I can do with the audio sync issue.
 
About the audio being out of sync: Perhaps it is because you choose the wrong framerate (24 FPS instead of 25 FPS or the other way around). There is also the difference between PAL and NTSC. I never understood the difference, but it IS there and might be relevant to the audio not being in sync.

Jack Sparrow's entrance would be MOST welcome! Possibly also Barbossa's speech in the cavern when they want to life the curse (and fail).

1-Jacks entrance
2-Jack saves Elizabeth
3-Barbossas speech
4-Pearl chases the interceptor
5-Barbossas last speech/fight on the dauntless/jack v barbossa

or something like that
 
i wouldn't include things that can be done in the game, such like most fights. however, the battle on the dauntless might be required, unless we want to switch player perspectives for a while, which could actually be a really nice touch. what you have there would be good, but the fight on the dauntless would be nice to let the player do it, if it's possible to switch the player's appearance for the quest. as it's done for the tailors, it would seem to me that it's quite possible.
 
I had a look at your video and it seems pretty good! I do notice that it was resized from widescreen to fullscreen, so everything seems to be horizontally flattened. The game itself is in the fullscreen as well though, so I wonder if we should keep it horizontally flattened, make a widescreen video (which would have black bars) or to somehow crop the sides from the movie. Not sure what to choose, really... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

As for the Dauntless battle: The quest is played from the perspective of Jack Sparrow. Since Jack doesn't actually get to see that battle, we don't really need to show it in the game either. We could add a movie of it, perhaps, but I don't think that's very important. Switching main characters would be interesting; if we ever get to the AWE quest, we'll probably have to switch main characters as well at some point. Otherwise we'd lose the Singapore episode.
 
i'd be for switching characters in the dauntless scene in the future, and using the clip to represent the event for now.

Thanks very much. It would be nice to trim some of the "fat" from these cutscenes, but that's a lot of work. I think it'd be more work than it'd be worth. So let's just keep it as-is. You can skip the films anyway. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
 
Could you perhaps remove the first 33 seconds from the movie? That is the Will and Elizabeth part. That way the movie would start straight away with Jack's entrance. Also: Perhaps you can end the scene earlier as well. The talk with the harbourmaster is done ingame at the moment, so perhaps you can end the scene at what is currently 02:02 - Jack looking at his sunk boat. The scene would then end right before the harbourmaster's line "And I shall need to know your name" and the continuation of the dialog would be done ingame.
 
I am going to edit it (Jack's Entrance) to try to fit it in with CotBP Part 1 and hopefully clear the Murtogg / Mullroy start issue.
Give me a few days - (a lot on at the moment)
