Major breakthrough with Akella

Here's a proposition for another e-mail to seaward.ru. I dare say this one could do with some major changes, but I had to come up with SOMETHING. We REALLY have to continue contact!!!
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Dear Mr. Zaitsev,

Again major thanks for sending us those modding tools. For the past weeks we have tried to figure out how to use them, but so far have been unsuccesful. Hopefully you can shed some light on the following subjects:
- Where should we place GrassGenerator.exe and PatchCreator.exe?
- How can we take an existing ship GM file with wrong collision data and use your tools to fix that? I tried to export your frigate1.mb and that did work, though the locators were not exported along with it. Then I tried to export a ship of ours to OBJ using the GM Viewer and tried to import that in the frigate1.mb Maya file, then export that, but that wouldn't work. Could you possibly give a step-by-step tutorial on how to fix bad collision data?
- Can the SailorTool be used to create PotC walk files or can it only generate AoP sailorspoints files?

We have done some brainstorming on a possible alternate name for Corsairs: City of Abandoned Ships and have come up with several options, but we haven't yet decided on which would be a really good name. Personally I think "Corsairs" is a fine enough name for a series of games, although Corsairs are more like Mediterranean pirates and not Caribbean ones. "Buccaneers" might be another option, though there has been a bad pirate game with that name in the past. Our webmaster suggested "Pirates Ahoy". As far as the subtitle "City of Abandoned Ships" is concerned, it might sound a bit like it has something to do with Shipwreck Cove from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

We have created a subforum for "City of Abandoned Ships" on our forum where the game can be discussed. So far there's not much discussion going on, but hopefully that will change soon when the game is released. Is there any official information on the game and a release date that we could post? The last thing we knew was that the game was to be released in Q1 2008, which will soon be over.

Again major thanks for all your support! We hope to hear from you soon!

With kind regards,

Pieter Boelen

I say - Send the bottle away! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

How does this look? (I have changed some could's to would's - as in English, could, means "can you do it" (which of course he "can") whereas, would, means "will you do it" (which is asking - "would he be kind enough?") - a small point, and I don't mean to be picky - just allowing for the translators over there. I have also removed some negative innuendos.

Dear Mr. Zaitsev,

Again, please accept the grateful thanks of our members for sending us the modding tools.
For the past weeks our members have been experimenting with them, but have found some things we don't fully understand, and we would respectfully ask your further assistance.

We would be most grateful if you would give us some further explanation on the following subjects:
- Where should we place GrassGenerator.exe and PatchCreator.exe?
- How can we take an existing ship GM file with wrong collision data and use your tools to fix that?
I tried to export your frigate1.mb and that did work, though the locators were not exported along with it.

Would you be kind enough to give us a step-by-step tutorial on how to fix bad collision data?
- Can the SailorTool be used to create PotC walk files or can it only generate AoP sailorspoints files?

Thanks very much! Much better than it was. I KNEW it could do with some more work. Thanks for doing that! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I don't really like the part in which you discuss about the name we could give to their game. (thought I didn't find any myself...)

I had a question to ask them (or you guys, maybe I've missed something). How to edit or create new .an files ? I'm sure they succeed at that, as we see in their promotionnal pictures some characters holding muskets correctly or carrying stuff on their back.

That is really a good mail, very short in the descriptions of the current problems the team might have with the tools, Pieter! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> No doubt he will understand this and reply!

However, unless a name contest have been executed with no winner found, I would leave it out ("Corsairs" and "Buccaneers" are already registered trademarks, as far as I know)

Also, you dont need to explain about the missing feedback on our forums or why you want release information on "City of Abandoned Ships"; this community might be the future support centre for this game AND it is a leading news site within the very narrow niche called "pirate communities (counting a total of how many? 3-4 sites? With that in mind, Mr.Zaitzev better tell us the release date in the very second he knows about it! (not said that you need to use exactly that vocabulary, of course <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )

It is obvious, that you have spend a lot of time on this mail, but you dont need to, you will die in the process. As staying in contact is the most import thing, there will be room for more suggestions from the community in your next mail. In other words, neither do you need my advice - you are the man! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

We can leave out the part about the suggested names. He specifically asked us to come up with something and I would rather be able to actually give him something good, but we're not going to get something good without any input, which seems to be the case right now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" />

How 'bout "Pirates: Hoist The Colours", "Pirates: The Black Flag", "Pirates: Terrors From Hell",
"Pirates: Skull & Cutlass", "Pirates: The Black Sea Dogs" or how about
"Scalywags: Why Is My Jolly So Roger?" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

"Pirates" is a registered trademark, so I don't think that can be used. Other than that, nice names. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Looks like I'll be occupied till the game will be released in english. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Naaah just kidding. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Reply:<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Hello, Pieter. Very glad to see your mail.

All work with models should is made in Maya, and then to be unloaded to GM. Return converting from GM in MB does not work correctly. Especially it concerns to the ships.

GrassGenerator.exe and PatchCreator.exe. First you should unload the GM-file from Maya-file. Then since a command line of Total Commander to type:
PatchCreator.exe <file name>.gm
PatchCreator will create a file .ptc which is necessary to game.

SailorTool used only for generate sailorspoints files.

Idea City of Abandoned Ships has come to us from Russian writer Alexander Beljaev and its remarkable book 'Island of the Lost Ships'.

City of Abandoned Ships at present it is translated in the USA on English. Huge volume of texts, the publisher has not calculated the opportunities. In the first quarter of game certainly will not be. It is necessary to wait about two months.

I seem shortly have answered all questions. If you want the detailed instruction on unloadings from Maya I shall better readdress to our art-director. Only I ask to take away from it not enough time, as we have begun manufacture the new game Corsairs-4 based GameBryo engin.

Best regards,
Edward Zaitsev<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Yeah; shame they don't stick with the Storm engine. It is nice to interchange files from the various games. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

This was wierdest answer. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> The way they talk english and put words of english is just plain wierd. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
But still we didn't get any wiser about how to avoid empty error txt problem. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

And what the hell is "unloading" its usually called extracting but not unloading. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

I think he uses a translator program, which confuses the sentences. I think "unloading" = "exporting".

But still its wierd. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" />
