PotC Build 12 Release Announcement

Hi all. I found PotC a few months ago and then found PiratesHideout while looking for help with the game. Then found this site via PH. I had already installed build 11 with no problems and went ahead and installed build 12 over it. It didn't take the first time, but retried and got it installed ok. Backed up my build 11 as well.

I can get into a game fine and I have reinitialized my saved game(s), but the default key (is it alt? been a while I forgot) won't work for swordblock now and when I enter the character info and/or save game screen(s) my mouse arrow disappears.

I have the US version of the game on a DFI LP nF2 board, 6800GT w/66.81 drivers running 4xAA/8xAF, 2500+ oc'ed to 3200+, 512MB PC3200, XP Home w/SP1. Not sure what else you guys need to know.. Rig runs stable while Folding 24/7. I have no problems with any other games or apps, so it's not because of the oc.

Blue Oval,
Welcome to the Site! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I think the default for block is the Ctrl Key, but Nathan Kell gave some instructions that should help you out; (I should probably update the Readme.... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> )

After you have loaded Build 12 and reinitialized by pressing "i", press F1 and, using the arrow keys, cause your mouse won't work, scroll down to "options", press enter, and on the next screen go to "controls", and press enter, then scroll to restore default settings and press that. After you have done that you can reset the controls to what ever you like, or leave them as is.

That should get you back on tack... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

I think I got the order right, but I'll go and check on the thread to make sure. Good Luck! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I found the thread, here are Nathan's instructions:

<b><!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Originally posted by Nathan Kell
Yeah. Consider that Part Two of reinitializing.
Step one: Load game
Step two: options->controls->reset to defaults
Step three: options->controls->customize (to taste)
Step four: press I

You're now upgraded.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--></b>
It's okay to press "i" even though you've already done it. Let us know if this helps!

Yes sir, that did the trick! Thank you for the quick reply too. PotC is fast becoming my most played game and I have no desire to run out and buy Meier's version for 40 bucks. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> <b>BlueOval, </b>and welcome aboard! Have an ale! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

SMP! is a fun game, too, but it is much different from the modded PotC. Glad you're back on track now and things are working well!

If you get stuck, you know where to come! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Again, welcome aboard! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Seems build 12 has made my swordfighting opponents much tougher. I found a sword (can't recall the name now) with a 94% block rate and lost it when I died fighting a single opponent since I did not save the game between finding it and that last fight. I was stunned!

Which brings me to another question. I used to have my first mate go wherever I went when I was on land. I told him to stay put and now I want him back. Also, I have quite a complement of officers with me now. I had 4 ships, but switched them back to just one so that I would get the benefits of making each of them specialize in certain areas.

How do I pick who I want as a first mate and how do I get him to go with me on shore? Thanks for the help and the welcome. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Times have changed, our opponents have gotten worse, they ACTUALLY fight back. Imagine that?

Excellent programing on the build 12 mod. Although I disagree with a few things, like the tiny text, I say overall, amazing compilation of moders stuff!

And, I also must say that the CD with the game "PotC" whould have ended up collecting dust, rather that turning into my absolute favorite game, ever! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

Cheers! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I'm in complete agreement there. I thought that build 11 was good, but build 12 makes PotC the game it should have been upon release. A million thanks to those who tirelessly wrote the code and fixed the bugs. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2up" border="0" alt="thumbs1.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

heya again,
Thanks Cat for the quick reply. I appreciated the help.
heh as for the guy that didn't save his game. I have that disease too, not sure if it's old age creeping up or youthful overcofidence!!! Last time it happened I lost a Man of War ship a level and a smith improved atwood f100, not to mention almost 5 million in gold (( smacks forehead loansharks and the ships cabin chest you dummy!!! ))
I wanted to say a few more things about the changes in the build game. I love the different swords and the different grades. That is wonderful stuff. The random quests from the governors are great to. As I understand it you can now continue to play after beating the black pearl? I found the game ending when I did that the first time a huge dissappointment. (( I hated the strict linear quality of the PoTC game as originally put out by Akella, not like seadogs at allllllll )) Perhaps that comes from me being a long time DM/player for tabletop roleplaying games. (( of course the same holds true for all the D&D based games out there too beat the final bad guy and poof your done GRRRRRR ))
There are a few things I haven't experienced yet in the new build, like I still have no land to my name. HEH got three man of wars and sacked two french towns but does the govenor notice??? nooooo just cause I won't go and do his silly quest in oxbay!! pffft on him!!!!
the random attacks are an excellent feature also. It adds spice and danger to just running the errands in town. I like that. If it was a safe place to be then there wouldn't be pirates at all right?
The various people you meet and talk to that can give you advice on how to do things are also a nice touch. Bravo!!
I agree with almost everyone here that says the build 12 makes the game what it should have been when it was released (( and might come close to what SD2 or the renamed age of pirates will be when it is released ))
I can't thank you guys enough for the thankless task this must have been writing all the code and inserting and tweaking and debugging and what not. I don't write computer code but have written novels so I think I might know a little about the things you have to go through to do something like this, especially to do it this well. My hat is off to you all.
I'm sure there is more to praise in the build but it's late I'm tired and the brain is a bit foggy, so for now I will sign off and go to bed with the wife.

<!--`QuoteBegin-BlueOval`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(BlueOval)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I told him to stay put and now I want him back.
You will have to find where you left him and tell him to come with you again! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<!--`QuoteBegin-BlueOval`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(BlueOval)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->How do I pick who I want as a first mate and how do I get him to go with me on shore?
When you look at your "passengers" list on your F2 menu, you will be able to scroll through all your crew and passengers on your ship. You will also see your portrait, and three empty (or maybe not empty) ones underneath the scroll. To pick someone to be in your crew compliment (to come ashore with you and on boarding parties) you first need to click on the first square to the right of your portrait - if it is empty, you can go up to your crew scroll and click twice on the centered pic to get your crewmember to your "first officer" spot. Follow this method for each of the two remaining squares, and you will have a boarding/landing party. They will now come along with you onshore and on boardings.

IF the squares are not empty - and you want to remove an officer, you can do that by clicking on the portrait square (not in the scroll) and then hitting the "REMOVE OFFICER" bar. This will empty the square, and the officer will be returned to your crew list.

You won't permanently lose anyone unless you fire them - and some `quest-hired` officers cannot be fired - Fred Bob is an exception as I wrote up that quest and made him able to be hired AND fired and `re-hired` again if you so wish... (dare to fire Fred Bob and you willl find out you regret it, ha!)

A small tip - when you have your boarding/landing party on land, face each of them and hit your "Enter" key. This will bring up a small menu of icons. Select the one with the two arrows and you can then give your officer potions to keep him healthy when fighting (yes, they will consume them if they get hurt), and better swords and pistols. You can even give them items that boost their stats. This will help keep them (and you!) alive when you are in a battle. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Help Please....

Hello All,
I have tried to install the Build 12 three time's now but everytime I press new game it just turns of PotC and goes back to the Desktop. Can any one help me and give some advise on what I should do?

Mad Jack will shortly have a nice tool to automate this; until then you'll need to:
1. Install Build 11 with the Euro option turned on (Fred Bob has kindly provided a link).
2. Install Build 12 on top with Online Updates and Euro Version checked.
3. Open the PA FTP and download the init_pc.c file there and place it in your_potc_folderprogramcontrols (and overwrite).
4. Make sure in the file your_potc_folderprogrambuildsettings.h, the line that says #define EURO has a 1 rather than a 0.

Build 11 is on the PA! FTP - Here is info on how to access it:

Thanks to ye all me lads.

Make sure ye've downloaded the updates, mate. And welcome aboard!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Known issue with small ships and large wave heights. :
{Because POTC doesn't remove the water under the ship, simply draw the ship on top of it}

Just think of it as water sloshing over the deck. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
