<b>The Enchanted City</b>

If you enter Caracas, there might be a chance that some people are sieging the tavern. They tell you that a werewolf lurks inside.
When you enter the tavern, go to the tavernkeeper and talk to him about the werewolf. He tells you about a guest. Go up the stairs and have a chat with the "monster". It turns out that this person comes from Maracaibo, but fled due to a mysterious curse and he asks you to help him lift it. Go to the priest of Caracas and speak with him about the man and his curse. The priest can't help you if the cursed man does not come to the church himself so go to the tavern.
The man is nowhere to be seen. Ask the tavernkeeper to the whereabouts of the man to find out that the people have burned him to cleansen his soul.
Sail to Maracaibo and ask the tavernkeeper if he knows anything about a curse. He mentions that he hasn't seen any of the fishermen from Des Moines for quite a while. Des Moines lies behind the Cape of unfullfilled Hope. Go there during the night. A sentry greets you. Kill him and enter the fishing village. The inhabitants are skeletons. Talk to the leader, Fernando Torres, to learn that a mysterious curse has striked the village. All inhabitants turn into undead during the night.
Where have I heard that story before?
It all began when a brig named "Queen" laid anchor in Des Moines. The pirates had a dispute and since then the curse started. Later came an English woman, Elisabeth Sheppard, who asked about the Queen. She might be the key to solve this mysterious case.
Go look for her in Charlestown. The leftmost house near the sea is her home. Talk to Miss Sheppard to learn that she had a visit by a skeleton and she thinks that that could have been her sister Danielle. To lift the curse, you should look for a jade skull of Mictlantecuhtli, the Aztec god of the dead.
Visit Tenochtitlan, the old capital of the Aztec empire. To find the skull, look in the Tenochtitlan section of this walkthrough.
When you are the new owner of the jade skull, go to Miss Sheppard. She will tell you to look for the brig "Queen". Eventually, you will meet this ship on the map.
In order to lift the curse, you have to board this ship and you must take the skull to the captain's cabin.
There Danielle Sheppard awaits you. She will fight you. When you defeat her, she will surrender and you tell her that Elisabeth sent you. The curse has been lifted and Danielle wants to join your crew as a female officer.
Go to Des Moines to collect your reward. Grab the money or refuse it to gain some reputation points.

<b>The location of some gifts:</b>

This quest consists of 6 questions about nautical details asked by a random citizen in Bridgetown, Willemstad, Port-au-Prince, Cumana, Port Royal and Santiago.
A man or a woman will ask you a question which has to be answered by typing the solution into the dialogue box. If the answer is correct, you will get the position of an item. If not, you're a normal person that doesn't know a thing about topgallant masts and gaffs like myself.
The answers can be found in:

<b>Dutch national quests:</b>

1.
Peter Stuyvesant wants you to transport an influental Jansenist named Aaron Mendes Chumaceiro from Marigot to Willemstad.
Sail to Marigot and look for a house to the right of the governor's residence. When you enter the house, you will be greeted by bandits. Give them the precious metal they desire for (lead or steel) and go upstairs. Talk to Chumaceiro and he goes to your ship. Sail back to Willemstad and report to Stuyvesant. Chumaceiro will reward you with 30000 and Stuyvesant congratulates you.

2.
Stuyvesant asks you to transport some cheap goods from Fort Orange to Willemstad. You have to deliver 400 units of Ebony, Coffee, Mahogany and Sandalwood to him. Time limit: 2 months.
Go to Fort Orange and show the paper from Stuyvesant to the governor. He will grant you special prices. Talk to the store owner and buy as many goods as you can from him, then leave for Willemstad. As soon as Stuyvesant has all the necessary goods, he will reward you.

3.
Peter Stuyvesant wants you to speak with Edward Mansfield, a Dutch pirate, about the English trade war and British measures against Holland.
Go to La Vega and visit the residence. Mansfield knows nothing, but maybe Morgan does. Go to Port Royale and visit Morgan's residence. He is on Antigua so go there. A dungeon entrance near Morgan's house allows you to enter it in case of a locked door. Morgan asks for a favor so help him.
A certain filibuster named Pierre le Picard needs to be checked so sail to Tortuga and ask the tavernkeeper, the brothel ownerin, the shipwright, the storekeeper and the moneylender about Pierre.
You have learned enough so report to Morgan. He will tell you that Modyford plans to attack Fort Orange. Return to Stuyvesant.

4.
Stuyvesant sends you out to defeat the British bastards attacking Fort Orange. When you sail to Cape Negril, some military ships will greet you warmly so fire back. After they have been sunk, land at Cape Negril and slaughter the English land troops in front of Fort Orange.
Go back to Stuyvesant to receive a huge reward.

5.
Peter Stuyvesant orders you to escort 3 fluyts to La Vega. You, as the squadron commander, have to supply the ships with food, medicines etc.
At La Vega, you have to load the ships with seventhousand hundredweights of food + provisions for the voyage + some added provisions in case of "rat attacks".
When you arrive at La Vega, you will hear that Mansfield has been killed by the Spanish. Buy everything you need and leave the harbor. You will meet a Spanish squadron. Sink them and protect your fluyts.
Sail back to Willemstad and report to Stuyvesant about Mansfield's death, the Spanish attack and the transportation of the rations.

6.
Stuyvesant wants blood and you have to coordinate the measures against the Spanish with the pirates. Find Henry Morgan and ask him for help. He will gladly help to avenge Mansfields death. For that, you have to find out if the Spanish governor of Santiago, José Sánchez Jiménez, is at home and if he intends to leave the city.
Sail to Santiago and ask the tavernkeeper about Jiménez schedule. He will tell you everything untill he realizes that you could be a spy. He calls for the guard. Kill them and leave the city. Report your information to Morgan and return to Willemstad.

7.
Peter Stuyvesant would like to send a secret letter to Monsieur d'Ogeron in Tortuga.
Sail to Tortuga and give the letter to d'Ogeron in the residence. He wants to answer Stuyvesant directly so you have to wait 2 hours. Visit him again and he hands out a parcel for Stuyvesant. Try to leave the town. A person will tell you to meet one man sent from Stuyvesant in the tavern. Go there. It is a trap.
After you awake, talk to the tavernkeeper. Run to d'Ogeron and report the theft of the parcel. He will give you the permission to ask the port controller about leaving ships. Do so. You will learn that the brig "La Rochelle" is headed fro San Juan. Sail near San Juan and enter the sea mode. You will be greeted by the "La Rochelle". Board the ship and slaughter the crew. The captain will tell you that the thief has changed ships. He is on the galleon Isabella which travels to Santa Catalina. Sail there immediately and enter the sea mode before the city.
Board the Galleon and have a chat with the thief Antonio. He will hand out the parcell and you can finally set sail towards Willemstad.

8.
Stuyvesant will tell you that Chumaceiro needs assistance. Visit Aaron at his house in Willemstad. Aaron will ask you to seek a special version of the bible a pirate wanted to sell on the Bermudas.
Sail there and ask the tavernkeeper, the store owner and Jackman about this guy. His name is Laurens de Graf and he lives in Tortuga.
Sail to Tortuga and see the tavernkeeper for information about de Graf. This filibuster has set sail to raid Spanish ships near Cartagena.
Sail near Cartagena and enter sea mode. Laurens will be busy with a Spanish squadron. Help him out. After defeating the Spanish squadron, sail to Lauren's ship via rowboat. He will sell you a map. Sail to the island mentioned in this map to receive the book and some other loot. Bring the book to Aaron and receive 1 million piasters.

9.
Peter Stuyvesant wants you to collect 4 Manowars, as the Dutch have problems building large vessels. Find 4 of those ships and hand them over to Stuyvesant.
Be careful: if you own a private Manowar, he will take them as well.

10.
Stuyvesant begs you to defend the harbor against an incoming Spanish squadron. Defend Willemstad at all costs. Go out and beat the Spaniards with the help of the Dutch fort.

11.
Stuyvesant tells you that the Spanish are on their way to assault Marigot. Sail there and sink them. Return to Stuyvesant to collect your reward.

12.
Stuyvesant wants you to annect the Spanish town of Maracaibo for the glory of Holland. Sail there, destroy the fort's cannons and the ships, kill the garrison and slaughter the city guards. Then go to the governors mansion and raise the Dutch flag. Now you can capture towns for the glory of Holland or for your own pleasure.

@Sordid
where exactly is this normal key you mention to be aboard Velasco? I think I have looked everywhere for it with no result. also I cant seem to trigger admirals lost key rumor, when I ask for rumors they say something like not before next storm? should I sleep in tavern until next storm arrives ? i also cant move on with bartender quest. I think im missing something. did the other quests ( alice's husband is free, 400 candles in church, broke in to esmeralda) any idea?

There are some crates and a barrel with candles on it directly in front of you as you enter the Velasco. Walk into the gap between the crates and the barrel and the hand icon will appear.

Thank You, I found it. I managed to advance with the bartender plot, but still I seem not to have triggered the admirals lost key rumor. Could anyone give me some tip with it ?

You have to find the chest first. You talk too Rojel Haag, then Lea Toors, then the Admiral, then Boyle, then you jump off the plank on Tartarus and swim in through the hole. Then you ask for rumors and you will get the lost key rumor. Find the key, loot the chest.

that would explain a lot <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> but now Im stuck with killing the whole gang inside san gabriel, its a roughly 10 vs 1. any tips regarding where to fight and strategy perhaps ?

I now almost searched an hour for this key - to no avail and I did replace the model file.
Really starting to hate COAS and the stupid quests there, I just wanna get outta there again... soon... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Please tell what's inside that chest that's worth all this trouble? Anything needed to be able to leave the city?

it would also be good to have a ship guide.even a rough one with the range of stats for every ship class.the ones on the official website lack info and some ship classes. i believe the stats are in the aop2 folder?maybe someone can direct me to it and i'll try to edit it for posting <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

Past Manowar are uniques and specials (boat & fort) -see below.
Seems like the strongest ship in the game is FlyingDutchman.Yet, it can carry only 32LBS cannons while SOLEYRU can carry 42LBS cannons.

The only way I know is to sail close enough to the port so on the world map you can see the flag raised. It doesn't even show on full zoom out so I have to get pretty close. I currently play with a Dutch character and I know of only 2 Dutch ports. Of course, after I visited the port I can see it on my trade list - nice for exploration, but I would imagine you can ask the governor what other ports does his nation own.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Use the map that came with the game.If it SOMEHOW didn't manage to get into the box, theres only 3 dutch ports if im not mistaken.Fort Orange on Jamaica,Willemstad on Curacao, and Marigo on Saint Martin.

i want to ask a quick question;
in the game pretty recently i keep getting mission from pirates/captains when i walk into the tavern any city. They approached me so i cant evade.

One is a jeremy pitts lookalike who asked me to plunder silver cargo at some shore. Another ask me to travel to somewhere far to attack a 3 merchant ships carrying cargo of silver. Another is a cargo of slaves at certain shore.

Now here's the forth one, i was at Tortuga, he asked me to travel to Port de France in Martinique in 11 days for some silver. I cant manage it, the wind is working against me. So i want to ask, is these quests important? I am willing to fail it but i dont want to miss out anything. Also i dont want to attack any french ships as i am doing Port de france -governor mini quests.

Right. Playing the English national quest line now, will post missions as I do them.

<b>ENGLISH NATIONAL QUEST LINE</b>

To do these quests you need an English privateer patent. You can obtain it by doing several missions for a governor or you can simply buy it from a pirate diplomat (in a pirate town's tavern). The patent grants you the rank of Privateer. If you have it, talk to governor-general Thomas Modyford in Port Royal.
Note: There's a hidden equipment slot for patents and for a patent to be active it isn't enough to simply have it, it needs to be equipped. It is equipped automatically when you obtain it and cannot normally be unequipped, but there is one situation when it gets unequipped, namely during the first convesation with the Admiral in the City of Abandoned Ships. If you do the COAS quest after obtaining a patent, you will need to re-equip it to be able to receive missions from the governor general.

<b>Escorting Duke Albemarle</b>

The first mission is simple enough, in one of the other rooms of the Port Royal residence you will find Duke Albemarle. Talk to him, then sail to whichever port Modyford ordered you to go to. When you arrive, you will be attacked by a Spanish fluyt. Shouldn't be a problem, you can make it even easier by exiting into sailing mode near the fort. Moor your ship and go to the residence, you will receive a letter. Deliver it back to Modyford.

<b>Curacao: A Violent Induction of Celebrity Pirates</b>

Modyford asks you to convince four pirates to attack Curacao. You need to talk to Edward Mansfield in La Vega, Jackman in Bermuda, Henry Morgan in Antigua, and John Moris in Trinidad. You have to use the underground passage via the dungeon to get to Morgan's residence. All four of the pirates will refuse, so return to Modyford to successfully fail this mission.

<b>Intelligence in Curacao</b>

Modyford will ask you to enter Willemstad and find out as much information about what's going on there as possible, to aid you in this task he provides you with a 20 day trading licence. Go there, talk to the bartender, then to the moneylender. You'll need to bribe him with 100k, then he'll reveal that the information you need is on a brig that's about to leave the harbor. Go to your ship, board the brig (it's right in the harbor, don't go to map mode), loot the secret dispatch from the chest in the cabin, and deliver it to Modyford. You will get your 100k back and a small bonus.
(Your character indicates in his journal that he should talk to the "gutter trash". This probably means the homeless guys, but I haven't been able to find one in Willemstad during this mission.)

If you talk to the GG after this mission, you will be promoted to Commander.

<b>Orange Assault</b>

Modyford will ask you to assault the Dutch settlement Fort Orange in Jamaica. You can either trek there through the jungle or sail to Cape Negril, preferably with a bunch of ships and the Allied Troop Landing perk. You fight a bunch of Dutch soldiers at the gates, then a few more in the streets, then finally the commandant himself in his office. Return to Port Royal for a pat on the back.

<b>Morris Williams, Frigate Skipper</b>

You are to meet one Morris Williams, a privateer who seeks to sell his booty, and deliver Modyford's permission for him to do so in Port Royal. His ship, the frigate Favorite, is waiting in the harbor, so sail to it, row over, talk to Williams, and report back to Modyford for 5000 in cold hard cash.
...but of course it's not so simple. As soon as you leave the residence, you will be stopped by a crewman from the Favorite and told to go see Williams in the tavern. There you learn that Modyford has had the cargo confiscated and returned to the Spanish. Back to the governor again, he thinks returning the goods will help diplomatic efforts with the Spanish.
Talk to Williams again, he needs the cargo to pay his debts - the simplest solution is to tell him to sod off, ending the quest immediately and decreasing your reputation to zero. You can also give him 140,000 to pay his debt, increasing your reputation and also ending the quest. And lastly you can go get the cargo back. For that you talk to the port controller to find out where the ship went and go after it - it went to San Juan, so exit near the island (but far enough from the fort) and board the ship. On it you will find 140,000 in cash in the cabin chest but no cargo.
Returning the money ends the quest and nets you a hint about where to find an Expensive Cuirass (which is NOT noted in your logbook - it's the Shores of Death, in the northern part of the mainland). You'll have to fight a horde of skeletons and loot it off one of them, and as usual in such situations your fighters that you hired precisely so that you wouldn't have to face overwhelming odds like this alone are nowhere to be found. Witholding the gold decreases your reputation and also ends the quest.
If you return without the gold, you can again tell Williams to sod off or promise to try and find a way to help him. If you do, a Favorite crewman will again stop you as soon as you step out of the tavern and inform you that Williams has been arrested. Go to the fort and talk to the warden, then go see Modyford again, then the moneylender. He's uncooperative, so talk to the priest, then to one Gillian Atterbury. She wants you to find her husband. You'll find him in the grotto, along with three smugglers whom you're going to have to kill. Speaking to the moneylender concludes the quest.

<b>Celebrity Pirate Booty Hunt</b>

Modyford's bright idea to confiscate William's plunder has come around to bite him on the keister, English corsairs now don't come to Port Royal to sell their loot, costing the crown significant amounts in tax money, and instead hide their plunder in secluded spots around the Caribbean. His idea of a solution is equally brilliant - you are to find the pirate treasures, steal them, and bring them to Port Royal. 2100 gold ingots in all. Boy oh boy...
There are seven locations in total, with several hundred ingots each. I recommend you take officers with you to help you carry the damn things, Workman from COAS in particular can carry 260 units of weight with his 10 strength. The chests also contain an assortment of trinkets, some of them very rare; unlike regular treasure found with maps, looting the chests does NOT spawn skeletons.

Cartagena: 300 ingots in a cave. From Cartagena, left, left.
Trinidad: 450 ingots in a grotto. From Port of Spain, straight, left. CHEST CONTAINS RAT GOD TOTEM. (assuming it isn't randomized - somebody verify, please?)
Turks: 250 ingots in the only grotto on the island. Right from North Shore, left from South Shore.
Dominica: 150 ingots, another tiny island. Left from Scot's Head, right from Castle Brus.
Cayman Island: 350 ingots in a grotto on a third tiny island. Left from Esmeralda, right from Deserted Beach.
Cuba: 350 ingots in a grotto. From Havana, straight, left, left, left.
Guadelupe: 250 ingots in a cave. From Basse-Terre, left, right, left.

The really hard part comes when it's time to deliver the gold to Modyford. Since Seaward didn't see fit to write a script to take the gold from the chest on your ship or a way to make your crew do the delivery, you're going to have to go back and forth between the port and the residence and carry it yourself. Once you deliver all the gold you will receive 70,000 as a reward.

<b>To Edward Mansfield, for Gold</b>

Modyford's hunger for gold seems insatiable, you are to go to Edward Mansfield in La Vega and fetch some more gold ingots from him. But as usual it's not that simple - the town had been raided. You'll find a survivor in the tavern, he'll inform you Mansfield is dead and the gold is on the Spanish galleons that attacked the town, now on their way back to Santiago. You'll need to give chase, if you exit into sailing mode near Cuba one of the ships will be nearby. You will find a letter in the captain's chest, but the gold is nowhere to be found. Bring the letter to Modyford. He'll ask you to come back in ten days for another mission.

Talking to Modyford again after this mission earns you a promotion to Captain.

<b>Attacking Santiago</b>

The attack on La Vega was instigated by the governor of Santiago, one Jose Sanches Jimenez. You are to raid the city and capture the governor. Fight your way to the residence and confront Jimenez, then head back to your ship (you can bypass the fort by landing at the lighthouse, treking through the jungle to the gates, and using the "speak to self" action to launch the attack).
As soon as you enter sailing mode, a bunch of Spanish ships will spawn and attack you - a frigate, two heavy galleons, and a battleship. Deal with them, in the battleship's cabin you'll find some 800,000 in cash. Return to Modyford for a pat on the back, then go see Morgan - you will receive Morgan's rapier, the best light weapon in the game.

<b>Spanish Squadron at Port Royal</b>

The Spanish have sent a punitive squadron to raid Port Royal, you must defend the city. When you enter sailing mode, there will be seven class 1 ships attacking the fort. Don't try to sit this one out, the Port Royal fort is very strong, but there are simply too many ships. Once you deal with them, talk to Modyford again. Despite his bragging that he pays his military captains well he will only give you a measly 80,000 - and to add insult to injury the Spanish ships don't even sell for much if you capture rather than sink them.

<b>Capturing Caracas and Cumana</b>

Modyford wants to retaliate against the Spanish by capturing Caracas and Cumana and as usual it's up to you to carry out this scheme. Again you can bypass the forts by landing at a nearby shore and conducting a ground based assault (Cape Aruba near Caracas and Shores of Carupano near Cumana). Fight your way to the residence in each city and talk to the governors, then head back to Port Royal. As usual, the warm, fuzzy feeling is going to be your only reward.

<b>Clarify the Situation in Saint John's</b>

Reports have stopped coming from St. Johns, you are to go there and investigate. There you will find Colonel Thomas Lynch, he will inform you the English government won't tolerate Modyford's antics any longer - you are to arrest him. Go to his residence and talk to him, you'll have to fight a bunch of guards, afterwards you'll be teleported to the jail. Speak to Modyford one last time and head back to town (the quest is bugged at this point, since you killed English soldiers, the guards will attack you, so run to your ship, sail away, and enter map mode - when you return, things will be back to normal). Speak to Lynch in the residence, an investigation of Modyford's activities is being conducted, you are to return in a month.
When you do, you will be promoted to knighthood complete with the title of Sir, awarded your share of 300,000 from Modyford's ill-gotten gains, and informed that Spain is no longer an enemy of England. Speaking to Lynch again will also grant you your final promotion to Commodore.

That concludes the English quest line. Please point out any errors or omissions I may have made.

I have a question about these "lose your items and ships" -quests, like the CoAS quest. If I give some powerful sword to my officer he'll start using it and he won't give it back.

Is there a way to get them back or should I first do these "lose everything" -quests and the go searching unique items? And which quests require you to give your stuff away besides CoAS?

@Sordid

It will take a few months before you can take a new quest from him.

To get weapons back from your officers you need to be higher level than they are.

1. drink in tavern, ask for tavern storys..

2. after few times, ull get a mesage, that it was in the port

3. go for it.....and ull get sunk, u lose everything and officers, so buy them tartans and give Trinkets to your offic. Leave tartans/luggers with offic in port control (ucan save only 3, i think...so plan this well)

4. After your "miracle" survival, u r on random island without money and ship, so go to neatest town and work, steal, etc to make some money and buy ship. go collect ur crew.

5. go to Amatice shore and way through jungle, past inca temple, to pearl coast settlement (i think u ll have to have spanish patent, or villagers will runaway), and talk with White Boy

6.go and collect 666 cursed pearls (have to ask governors of any nation to work for them, hopping ull get a mission to defend a town from skeletons)\

7. go to White Boy....

8.Go to tavern and drink until u get aright answer

9.go to sea, and try to capture it...U'll need a LARGE and STRONG ship and min 400-500 sea dogs soliders for it
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
is there something missing between step no.4 to step no.5?

I survived and landed at my capital. There nothing in the quest to tell me to go amatike shores. Anyway i go there, i'm hostile with spain, so i fly spainish flag, kill the sentry and go back to ship to sleep 1 night. The next day i go to that village but see no white boy. Got 1 soldier give me the sharpe's spy quest.

1. drink in tavern, ask for tavern storys..

2. after few times, ull get a mesage, that it was in the port

3. go for it.....and ull get sunk, u lose everything and officers, so buy them tartans and give Trinkets to your offic.

9.go to sea, and try to capture it...U'll need a LARGE and STRONG ship and min 400-500 sea dogs soliders for it

are you sure you went to the right pearl settlement? the one that from amatice shore indeed houses the white boy. did you anchor in san jual del norte perhaps?

well, the amatice shore i go is at the south of belize, the bay is surrounded by rocks just like Bermuda. There are a few houses there , all have no occupants except one which is the soldier. is it the correct one?
