Re-worked Privateer

I agree.. stock brigs are butt-ugly. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> Anyways, someone should work out those rope problems from frigates too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Frigate hulls in PotC look nice but masts, rigging and ropes I don't like.. besides one rope runs right throught a upper sail on first mast. I am no rope or mast expert and besides I don't have the game installed on me rig. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Since I am no rope expert that's why I told you guys in the first place to start removing those darn rope problems. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> But ye told me to fix that on my own but that isn't enough.. most of the ships in PotC need COMPLETE revision of masts, rigging and ropes which I am no expert of.. I can just remove/add ropes but I do NOT know where those ropes must be EXACTLY and I am no historian. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Frigates in PotC would look MUCH cooler when they have more ropes and no ropes going throught sails or anything wacky like that.

Progress:
I'm finishing off the rigging to make sure that ropes don't go through sails.
Then I'll start re-skinning.

A note of interest.
I find that the Spanker (driver) Brig1_rey_d4 has it's textures inside out, or is it, normals reversed. You see through the outside walls of the spars to the opposite inside walls.
It makes them look like they have reversed lighting.

This is the case for all the brigs and goes back to the stock ships. I can't find one that is normal.

Flipped normals on the models; YUK! I recall seeing that before. I think, for example, some BuildingSet walls have it too.
But those aren't stock game, of course. We should get those fixed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

i always thought that that was done to create an optical illusion, halving the amount of polygons required for booms. corvettes have it too.

It doesn't decrease the number of polygons required at all. It's just <i>wrong</i>.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />o) I've been saying it for a long time, Pieter! My reason for not using it in the game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Actually the flipped normals in the BuildingSet mod walls aren't quite the weirdest aspect of it.
Flipped normals problems should actually be quite fixable. Perhaps ZarethPL can have a look at it?

Well, if ZarethPL can, we are talking first about the "Brig1_rey_d3.gm" file from the Brigs.

I'm pretty sure he can. How uploading all files that require fixing (eg. Brig1_rey_d3.gm, BuildingSet wall, corvette reys, your "Jolly Mon", B14 HMS Surprise) and we can PM ZarethPL to ask him if he can fix them?

Here is how the Privateer stands.

1. 44 new ropes, that's 88 more rope points.
2. rey_c4 eliminated
3. Smaller flag
4. Sprit sail added back in and now set to furl in "Battle Sail" condition.
5. No "rope data" errors
6. No ropes or sails passing through each other.

That last one was a pain to achieve and still keep the sails spaced appropriately.
I don't think it can be achieved on many other ships and wish anyone luck if they try other models.

As for the gaff boom, notice in the picture, that the ship is in shadow while rey_d4, is bright.
You are actually looking through the near surface to see the inside far surface, which being on the sun lit side, shows up brighter.

looks like you add ropes there.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

That is an incredibly pretty ship you've got there, Petros! Those additional ropes really do add a lot of "age of sail" atmosphere! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
Where did you make that last screenshot? Looks like the Privateer is moored alongside the jetty somewhere. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Heh, heh, yeah, that is IM, I always use it as my home base.

I set two locators for my ships, one at each stone pier.

A third sits not to far in the harbor.

Can you upload that locator file? I'd like to put it in the Build. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
I know it's not going to be perfect with Manowars and such,
but I'd rather have it IN the Build and be able to take out out for the final release if we can't fix it than to not have it in the Build at all.

whew, that boom is LONG. don't mind though. i see you added the bracelines too. looks good.

Through the rigging of this Privateer you can see four Galleons, the largest ships I set to encounter true.
The one on the far left is the position 4 companion and is in the original spot.
The one on the right is the position 3 companion and has been moved closer to the piers.
The two at the pier are the position 2 companion on the right and the players ship on the left.
IM_Pier.gif

The players ship should probably be moved a little further back.
I'll change that and post it on FTP unless I can post it here.

No, wait! That one is not going to work.

I just checked this with a MoW and as you can see, it is not what you want.
I'll work on a new file with the locators set to accommodate MoWs and get it to you.

BTW, that is the leaky "Jolly Mon" at the other pier.

[attachment=2426:IM_Pier3.gif]

Thanks a lot, Petros! Of course making it work for all ship sizes is not going to happen with just a locator file change; some code changes would need to be made too so that different ship sizes are moored at different distances.

Have you and ZarethPL had any luck fixing up the "Jolly Mon", by the way?

No, he hasn't contacted me yet.

About the IM piers, this is what I'll do.

I'll send two files.
The one I use works for all ships up to Galleon, should work for corvettes and frigates (they are smaller) and might even work for battleships.

Another will be for MoWs with ships set further away, perhaps anchored in the deep water near the pier.
