There Once was a Pirate from Limerick...

Fierce Mad Jack's a fright to behold
For loot and rum he will ever be bold
But a glance from sweet Fancy
Brings Mad Jack in all ardency
'Cause not all treasure is silver and gold! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Mad Jack,
I'm reminded of how you've commented on how Henry Avery (Every) 's ship was called the Fancy, but I wasn't aware that Keats had written a poem about her. <a href="http://www.bartleby.com/126/43.html" target="_blank">http://www.bartleby.com/126/43.html</a>

<i>Ever let the Fancy roam!
Pleasure never is at home:
</i>
John Keats (1795–1821), British poet. Fancy (l. 1–2). . .

While Keats advocates on how Fancy should roam,
Henry Avery sails his "Fancy" over the foam,
But Mad Jack could dispute,
and leave both of them mute,
For his pleasure is ever at home. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Sweet Fancy brings joy to my heart
even when we rove far and apart.
Her laugh is the song
that sustains me along,
and her smile is a true work of art!

She lay upon sheets colored copper,
with our loot scattered 'round and atop her.
It was my utmost pleasure
to plunder such treasure,
and she responded in kind, good and proper!

Heh... What a picture! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

:: shrugs and winks :: <i>Pirates!</i> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Yup... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />
In a Pirate's Waltz, with their blades unabated,
Shrewd thrusts and blows by both were traded,
But Mad Jack's technique soon proved so charming,
That Sweet Fancy found it to be quite disarming,
And the ultimate end appeared fated.

Said Mad Jack, "If you find me at fault,
Say the word, I'll be willing to halt."
Fancy laughed, "You're mistaken,
For I like to be taken,
With just a small grain of assault!" <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Ol' Jack's has a bit of the blues.
His Fancy, he did possibly lose.
Her husband did find
our bodies entwined,
Seems my stay I did much overuse.

Here I pray to whatever's right
that Fancy will again grace my sight.
Though Fate is quite cruel,
I'm more than willing to duel,
to have Fancy beside me each night!

My heart for my Fancy cries out
and her "husband" is not but a lout.
I'll cut out his heart
with me cutlass, to start.
And she'll be back in my arms, no doubt.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> MAD JACK! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

A pirating lifestyle can indeed be cruel
Especially when one gets caught in a duel
He knew it was chancy,
But Mad Jack had to have Fancy
Precious more than any gold, silver, or jewel. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

The question is, how long Mad Jack can keep this one going! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Although I think he's somewhere at the moment sharpening his cutlass. He'll have Fancy back in no time at all, I'll wager! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

... and alas, it is not. Jack is going off to get very, very, <b><i>very </i></b>drunk. <img src="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/style_emoticons/default/nerbz.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

And Mad Jack, at love, lost once more.

That's it. No more damned rhymes. Bring the curtain down on this miserable mess. <b>BRING IT DOWN!!</b>

What cheer, Mad Jack?
Just keep in mind that when you're in your cups, you've a bunch of mates there with you in spirits.

I came up with this in a less serious frame of mind, but if it makes you laugh matey, it will have done what it was meant to do...

This is the story 'bout Mad Jack and Fancy too,
Two young lovers with nothin' better to do,
Than sail around the world, get high and run you through,
And here's what happened when they decided to cut loose....
Singing, go on take the money and run, woo hoo hoo!

And finally, ...

If some "weasel" you be needin' to ferret,
You've good mates ready at the Blind Parrot
We'll escheat his estate,
(We're executors first rate!)
And some good fortune, you should inherit.

Here's to you, mate, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Sir Chris, you're a friend of first rate.
Your humor, none can abate!
My heart may be broken
but your friendship will token
some rum, so your thirst you may slake!

I'm so done with "love"
that I'd throttle a dove.
And if anyone whiles
that tomorrow brings smiles
I'll strangle 'em with or without gloves!

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> WOOOOT! APPLAUSE! WHISTLE THINGY THAT I CANT DO! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

"'Tis better to have loved and lost", and all that merry crap.
To think of ending that line, the Bard's neck I'd gladly snap.
To love so deeply and still meet defeat;
It's better to sup upon a grand dinner of spoiled meat.
My heart lies there, utterly shattered.
It would be easier if it were my ashes to be scattered.
Why must I be torn
by every thistle and thorn,
when all I wish for is love, mild and sweet?

Dang, a heckuva lot more than I could've! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

(You have a lot higher opinion of me than you should if you think I actually know any of the rules, mate. I will admit, however, to having an exceedingly potent line of BS. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" /> )

My experience of life has been; you can either write poetry, or you're living poetry. (good or bad) I get the impression that you're currently living it, and all I can say say is that you do it with a far better grace than I ever have.

Only because I esteem you as a very dear friend will I share with you one of the few things I hang onto in life to keep myself at least halfway sane, and I hope you find some comfort in it:

<i>If</i>
Rudyard Kipling

<i>If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt
you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too
wise;
If you can dream-and not make
dreams your master;
If you can think-and not make thoughts
your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the
same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've
spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to
broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout
tools;

If you can make one heap of all your
winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and
sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold
on";
If you can talk with crowds and keep your
virtue,
Or walk with kings-nor lose the common
touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt
you;
If all men count with you, but none too
much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run-
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And-which is more-you'll be a Man, my
son!</i>

What I wouldn't give to be able to raise some hell with you right about now. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />
