And the <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/potc_downloads/tools/ftp_commander.zip" target="_blank">FTP Commander</a> can be download from Pieter's Page, you don't necessary need it but it can help.
 
But I can't seem to make it work or log onto to the ftp. Well I can get there, but when I do, I only acess a file called pub that is empty.

I have been away too long and my knowledge is weak and my skills are rusty

Can I install this just on top Build Alpha 6 + update 2 or do I need the Maximus file first?

You definitly do need the Maximus version first. The KK version is so small, because most of the new RESOURCE files it uses are in the Maximus version. You can install the Maximus version on top of Alpha 6 Update 2 as well, I think. I recommend doing it on a copy of your working installation though if you can spare the disk space. Once you confirmed the Maximus version to be working, I recommend you make another copy and install the KK version on top of that. The KK version is not supposed to supercede the Maximus version; they both contain certain fixes, bugs and features that the other version doesn't have.
 
Alright, I am not sure wether I installed the WIP 2 pirate_kk correct or not. It is so full of bugs, that I can only play for about 5 minutes in Port Royal.
This is what I get:

-No button but "New game", "Load" and "Save" in the main menu works
-the loadingscreen for Port Royale says "Redmond"
-Entering the shipyard in Port Royal == black screen
-no "locked/unlocked" icons when standing in front of doors etc

Should these bugs come up, if I installed everything correct?
 
Hmm sounds lik a big problem... Kinda like what happened for me... When you enter the shipyard does the screen Fade black from the loading screen? Or just suddenly go black? If its fade then you probs have loads of mods on that mess it up like what happened with my game before the builds... Fades black if theres too much moding in its system lol

Also the icon for the Opium Den in Port Royale is the "Jungle" icon.

Thats odd and a little funny too, actually. `Cause I have random characters (ok, they are not random, the character list is that from Redmond) and soldiers and everything - maybe this is because I "cheated" a little and installed the B14A6update2 and not the A6 like it should be!
I am currently installing everything again from the start, this time with B14A6. If I get the same errorlog as you, the problem might just be the shipyard locator in B14WIP2pirate_kk?
 
I too am working on theMaximums+ Pitate_KK mod for the selectable stories, jumping from one to another to (hopefully) get the stories in line with, and seperate, from each other.
At the moment I also have NO Soldiers at Redmond in the Jack Sparrow story.
I have changed the "standard" start to be in fine weather instead of the storm to get it backto the original story line.

To PeterWillemoes: Random characters are either the navy officers in the port or the characters who you can actually have interesting conversation with. These are NOT the characters that can tell you about the town and the governor, etc, but the characters who might pick your pocket and give you experience and stuff like that. I do have the default characters in Redmond port, but not these random ones.

Did you have soldiers in Redmond as well? How did you start the game? I tried both the Jack Sparrow and Beatrice Devlin quests that start straight in Redmond port and in those cases I have no soldiers. I did get soldiers in Point a Pitre when starting the Bartolomeu o Portugues quest and I also had soldiers in Douwesen when starting the original main quest with nation Holland.
