Mod Release Build 14 Beta 2.5 Internal Release Available!

So then the problem DOES come from the increase in difficulty. Therefore we have to tone down the effect. But not too much.

And you're saying that the blunderbuss, musket and musketoon are generally useless? That's not good; those weapon stats will need to be changed then.
Any suggestions?

BTW: I'm currently in the process of preparing the final Beta 2.5 installer and double-checking that it installs properly.
I intend to make an internal release of the final version this evening/tomorrow so that we can all check it before.

What is an internal release? :facepalm

What is an internal release? :facepalm

A release that will only be made available on the forum, so we can test it and make last-minute changes before committing to a public release both here and on ModDB.

I think Pieter said he's compiling the files right now and will upload everything when it's done.

Opening post updated with the Internal Release
including link and updated change log

The file is a fair bit larger than the earlier test versions because this one was made to be installable on top of Build 14 Beta 2.1 or any more recent release.
It is now a proper installer with a RunMe.bat taking care of all prior manual actions, so it should be much easier to install properly.
I have checked and rechecked the results and as far as I can tell, once you install this, you'll have the exact same files in your game that I do.

New stuff:

Is the changelog in the first post meant to be all-inclusive of Beta 2.5's contents, or not just yet?

If anyone has any comments on the actual INSTALLER and the texts used in it, please also let me know.
Anything unclear, confusing or just plain WRONG, let me know! If possible, I want people to be able to use this without things going wrong. ;)
(One can always hope, no...? :wp )

Indeed it was for the 2.5 content, but I hadn't included the 2.4 stuff.
I've added both change logs to the opening post now, so that makes it all-inclusive. :yes

Just installed it, and the game seems to work normally so far.
One thing that confused me was that I had to run two versions of RunMe.bat (or was it rename.bat and runme.bat?); first at the end of the installation screen, and again in the game folder. Is this intentional?

Got it up and running started fine.

I would like some help with the controls. I am not a fan of the using the mouse in personal combat probably mostly because I have been using some thing else for years of playing the game and I hate to say I need help with something so basic as changing these controls. But I do. The default buttons for primary land are w, s, a, and d, and the controls for fight mode are listed as w,s, a, d. Yet, when you actually fight the fight controls are the mouse buttons.

So two things seem obvious. The first is fight mode is not controlled by the buttons listed. So where is that defined and how can I change that to what I want?

The second thing is when I make a change on primary land to change movement to the mouse buttons those the fight mode shows the same changes so it is clear that changes made in those two areas of control are linked.

The controls I prefer are forward = left mouse button, backward = right mouse button, attack = space bar, block = control.

Could anyone tell me how to make that happen. :shrug

Thanks

Ok Jason you got some bad advice. I told you to look in internalsettings.h and that is the wrong place.
Go to --->POTC--->program--->controls--->defaultcontrols.h. There in the "character on land" section you can set your controls for moving and fighting.
At the bottom there is a list of allowed keys with proper spelling and punctuation to help you get it correct.

Set your controls up how you want them there and then copy it and save the copy somewhere because each new patch resets the controls to default.

I could do this for you if needed.

You have to run one RunMe.bat after installing Beta 2.1 Full and another after installing the Beta 2.5 Update. Are those the two you mean?
Or did you have to run the same file twice after installing the Beta 2.5 Update? That is definitely NOT supposed to happen.
There is only one BAT file included and that should delete itself once it has run. :shock

Me neither. The first thing I keep doing is changing Attack and Block right back to Space and Control. Works fine for me just doing that through the Options menu.
Same for changing backward and forward movement to the mouse buttons last time I checked. Not sure why it is being so difficult for you.
Glad you managed to get it working in the end though. :facepalm

After installing 2.1 and 2.5 ( I ran runme.bat after each installation) my config.exe went missing. No big deal though, just need someone to tell me where can I turn the "Sound safe mode" function off manually.

We have removed Config.exe on purpose, because it has more potential to mess things up than to work properly these days.
This line in engine.ini controls that Safe Mode thingey:
Code:
safe_render = 1
Editing that file with Notepad should work fine. :doff

Game Preferences are empty? is this normal? And had a CTD in standard-storyline, in the Saint-Pierre Tavern when searching for the documents. Doesnt know if this a error in 2.5 but I thought better report it ;)

No, I installed 2.5 right on top of my previous 2.1+2.4 install, and there weren't any RunMe.bat files lying around before installing 2.5.
I'm wondering whether the 2.5 RunMe.bat didn't work properly first time, or something weird like that. I definitely still had PROGRAM_new in the game folder after running the file at the end of the installation process.

About controls: I actually prefer using the mouse for combat and WSAD for movement, though I also have my own habits with remapping commands:
  • Use healing potion/douse ship fire - H (H for Heal)
  • Initiate Rush mode - R (R for Rush, though I rarely use this)
  • Set/Strike sails - Left/Right mouse
  • Move on ship deck/zoom in 3rd person - W and S
  • Hot action command - Backspace
Even then, I still don't find it perfect because I struggle to remember various other commands like Fire pistol and Dodge.
I'm not a PC gamer by nature, which is probably why. :wp

Is that with the proper installer that the opening post now links to?
We did have that problem in Test Version 4, but it was fixed right after being reported. The newest release does not have that problem.

I thought we had that fixed ages ago. There are other routes to take there though that you could try:

Reconnoitre captured Speightstown city(top)(hide)

Sail to Far Beach, Barbados – Follow path through jungle to Speightstown
Challenged by French guards at gate – Talk to them then fight them.
Talk to tavernkeeper about French. - Go and talk to French Officer Valentin Massoni
Transported to Town gate – challenged by Guard – Follow Valentin Massoni into jungle – question him about ammunition ship – take his papers – Guards Attack you.
Go back the way you came to Far Beach.
CHOICE – Go and tell Silehard - he will send you after Ammunition ship – OR go after Ammunition ship yourself.
When you sail away from Barbados you will be chased by French Ships.
Sail to St Pierre, Martinique – On jetty Faust Gasquet walks up and talks to you ( sailor from Ammunition Ship “Oiseau”) – Ask him Questions.
Talk to tavernkeeper – go to tavern room – Auto-walk to Amiel Berangere - he talks to you – either threaten, bribe or persuade him to let you escort “Oiseau”. - QB Update & document
Talk to harbourmaster Turpin Cabanel in building by jetty – document removed - then go outside and talk to Virgile Boon.
Sail to Jamaica – on arrival attack and sink “Oiseau” (“Oiseau “ automatically becomes enemy ship ) - QB Update
Go to Port Royale townhall and talk to Silehard – collect reward and get next task – Escort troopship and meet Spy

That proves that RunMe.bat did NOT execute properly. Strange though; probably Windows security messing things up. AGAIN!

well both is not that bad. I think the CTD was an one-off situation, and the emtpy game preferences are not that bad for me, because I can change BuildSettings ;)
