Hi,

Sorry for the delay......I've uploaded it in my FTP folder (file name,(for pgargon). .Still a fair bit to do but I think Pgargon will be able to sort it out fairly quickly..
I've run out of time & patience ATM...........too much to sort out in RL.

Couldn't watch your video MK......something to do with SME content is blocked over here for copyright reasons :shrug

Cheers,
damski.

Hi,

Oh well,... I'll just plod on at my own pace then (probably finish it sometime this year),.....it's been uploaded for two days....thought I may have had a bit of feedback by now :shrug

damski.

Thanks Damski,

Pgargon hasn't been on a whole lot lately. I've been very busy and haven't been on the forums much so I haven't had time to look at it. Craiggo downloaded it and I think he's working on it now.

Thank you so much. We will be able to get the ship into GOF at least now. Thanks for all the hard work mate!

Sorry you couldn't download the video. Look up MADCON Beggin on You Tube or elsewhere. It's a great video. I just thought it would be a funny way of pleading for the files.

Also OP was saying the other day that you might be working on a new Barbossa model with the British Captain's uniform. Have you done anything on that?

Thanks again Damski

Hi,

OK MK......if Craiggo needs any help with it I'll give a hand or any advice needed......he'll need Maya to finish the model though & there is a read me with the model of things that need doing.

The new Barbossa......I've had a look to see where I had got to ......... I thought I'd already bound it to the skelly before I went to the UK.....wrong, but not too much of a problem. I will try to finish him this week :doff .

Cheers
damski.

Just noticed pgargon is here so maybe we can all chip in :onya

Damski, if you get the chance, I'd REALLY like to have a Tia Dalma that actually looks like her. :wp

I can't get Maya to work for me fro some reason and it makes me want to through my computer so It's all Pgargon. I can do all the walk/locators/rigging/texture work once the model is done and in GM format wit ha path and some masts but Maya is killing me right now.

Hi Craiggo,

We'll have to help you get Maya working first then :onya .......I haven't packed in modding.....just having a problem concentrating to get things done. ATM.

Well Mates,

Unfortunately Pgargon reports that there is nothing he can do about this ship because of its scale in Maya. So this project is now dead in the water. A pity. I was so looking forward to it.

Hi MK,

Don't worry........ you'll get it eventualy , it's not dead yet :no
Is it because he works with 3DS MAX ?

damski.

Hi,

This is scaled to the Briganti_1 help file......a bit hard when you don't realy know how small the little one should look against the big one......only guess work ATM.
Scale test.jpg
If someone lets me have a rough idea of the lengths of these two ships I can get a fairly accurate scale. Going by the doors sizes they aren't that accurate if you compare the ships wheel on the briganti to it's cabin door. Me thinks the wheel is too big.....but :shrug
Anyway when it's the right size I'll delete the briganti ,the water, and redo the locators.

Cheers

Sorry Damski see the picture. I had imported your file in Maya 5.1. Left you see the Frigate Berlin. :shrug

Hi pgargon,

I'll do what I've said, get it scaled accutately then give you a shout ...It will be scaled against a source model so it will be the proper size & then I'll get rid of the old locators :onya

Damski,

On the scaling question you posed to me prior to the site issues: Frederich Willhelm zu Pferde (FWzP) was 125 long and 32 feet at the beam. I did a comparison with the Dutch Pinnace/Fregatte that Pgargon made for us (that I provided the plans for) and using a 1/400 scale for comparison, determined that the Pinnace as it is in our game is almost exactly 2/3rds of the length the FWzP should be. Is that helpful?

I will send a visual representation tonight.

MK

Damski,

Sorry for the delay.

Here is a scale comparison using two other similar models in game built by Pgargon on a common 1/400 scale which is reflected on the picture. This is Frederich Willem zu Pferde compared with Derfilinger and the Fregatte Berlin. Tell me if this is helpful or not. If not, I will find something else.

Hi ,

MK....does the length, excluding the front mast , of 237 ft sound about right ?....or am I way off ?

Damski,

Short answer 125 feet.

I think you're a little over. Frederich William zu Pferde (FWzP) was loosely classified as a Dutch built/Dutch pattern "Zweidecker" or "Frigate" for that time which based on her size roughly equates to a Dutch 2nd or 3rd rater. The largst Dutch ships of that time (1st rates) were about 150 feet (Zeven Provincien 151 English feet and 1522 tons).

According to the information I have on FWzP, she was 900 tons, 125 feet (37 meters) and 32 feet at the beam. Still quite a good sized ship. An interesting thing to take into account is how much weight the upper decks and super structure added to the weight and size. For example the HMS Rose (portrayed the actually smaller Surprise) weighs in at about 500 tons but is over 50 feet longer than the FWzP - and over 20 feet longer than a 17th century 1st rate. So even though the Frederich William zu Pferde is clearly a larger ship in terms of tonnage, crew complement, and guns mounted, the later British 5th/6th rate frigates from a century after - are much longer (Rose is 179 feet). The FWzP is clearly much taller than a single flush deck frigate in comparison however.

Just trying to add some perspective when considering scale. Another good ship to compare her to is Yo Ho Ho's Dutch Escort ship. That ship clearly portrays either a Dutch 1st rate of pre-1660's vintage or a Dutch 2nd rate from the De Witt's naval reform/new building program post 1660 era. The FWzP would be about 20 feet shorter than her.

You know another thing to think about are those pesky bowsprits. Plans and demensional descriptions often don't do a good job of classifying if the bow sprit is considered in the measurement or not.

LOA = Length Over All

LOD = Length on Deck

LWL = Length at the Water Line

These are common classifications used for modern ships and boats.

I suspect the Rose 179 feet is LOA and that the length listed for the Frederich zu Pferde is LWL, which brings them a lot closer. Some of those late frigate bow sprits were REALLY long at over 35 feet alone in some cases. If we added the bowsprit length to the 125 feet for the FWzP, I suspect her LOA length would be closer to 147 feet and the Zeven Provincien to be closer to 175 feet.

I wish they would do a better job (when classifying dimensions in plans) of documenting this.
