Captain Python's POTC Movies Thread

I saw the trailer and it looked like fun. But with all the cannibals and jungley things, it doesn't really seem like an all-out pirate movie. I suppose the final movie will be a pirate movie though. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

What website? The official PotC 2 website? There is none yet. I believe the trailer was leaked and wasn't supposed to be released yet. Which explains the very bad quality.
<!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->Edit:<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> <a href="http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/piratesofthecaribbeandeadmanschest.html" target="_blank">This</a> sure looks one hell of a lot better than the version I saw last week. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
BTW: Be sure to also check out the concept art on that site. Looks nice as well. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

<a href="http://www.blackpearlracing.com/base.asp" target="_blank">This site</a> is currently serving as the "official" site for all things PotC2 until after the first of the year. And on another note: Hans Zimmer is composing the music this time, not Klaus Badelt. Badelt will no doubt still have a hand in it, but not as prominently. Yahoo incorrectly lists Alan Silvestri, who walked away from the first movie, as the score composer.

The current website "accidently" released the trailer early in Flash format. It was supposed debut in the previews before "The Chronicles of Narnia." It's been pulled for the time being, but it's already generated all the excitement Disney could have hoped for, and more.

I would like to add that the link I just posted does look like a proper official release of the trailer in proper image quality, unlike the leaked version.

As for Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt: When I first heard the PotC soundtrack, I really liked it. Now, two years later, I have become thoroughly unimpressed with it. I think my frequent listens to the Cutthroat Island soundtrack have something to do with that. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
Anyway, I reckon Klaus Badelt could have done a better job if he'd have had more time. His score for The Time Machine remains very good. I hope Hans Zimmer will write some good music, though I am usually rather unimpressed with his music as well. It tends to be nice music, but not really excellent. And it all sounds alike after I heard a few of his scores. I would prefer a proper orchestral soundtrack for PotC 2, but it doesn't seem like that'll happen, so I'll just hope for the best from Hans Zimmer. If he does a good job, PotC 2 could become my favourite Zimmer soundtrack. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there mateys

Just saw this trailer on Entertainment Tonight. Looked great.

Cheers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Yeah, it's awfully clean for a "leaked" promo. And the "official" site is WAY to Flash-happy for my taste. Give me links and resizable windows, especially if it involves Keira Knightley in pirate kit brandishing pistols!

When I said where the sight was, I meant "Where did you get the trailer clip from?"
But before I came in today, I found that Yahoo sight mentioned earlier.

I get the Trailer from this site

<a href="http://orlandomultimedia.net/pirate/pirateupdate.html" target="_blank">http://orlandomultimedia.net/pirate/pirateupdate.html</a>

Just some updates. The filming appears to be stopping for Christmas as of the 6th, and will resume in early to mid January. With all the actors back in the real world (not filming place) the media will probably get some info on the movie out of them (that is what I am guessing).

Here is a new sight to add to the list of rescourse sights:
<a href="http://orlandomultimedia.net/pirate/pirateupdate.html" target="_blank">Orlando Bloom Multimedia</a>

and here is a article on how the Pirates of the Carribean ride is going to be changed for the movies:
<a href="http://www.miceage.com/allutz/al110805a.htm" target="_blank">Dead Men Tell New Tales, Scoop on the Pirates...</a>

I am also going to change the Johnny Depp Forum Trailer Teaser to a link to the Forum in general.

<u>News Updates from <a href="http://orlandomultimedia.net/pirate/pirateupdate.html" target="_blank">Orlando Bloom Multimedia</a>.</u>
There is a new title for the 3rd Pirates of the Caribbean Movie.

<i>Pirates of the Caribbean: Uncharted Waters</i>
I have also found out that they plan to have the shooting done by March, 3 months before the second movie comes out.

<u>Other News</u>
There are some pictures from the movie out, <a href="http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&id=1808556813&cf=pstills" target="_blank">here</a>.

The official POTC 2 site is up:
<a href="http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/pirates/" target="_blank">Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Man's Chest Official Site</a>
It has some interesting stuff, worth a look. It isn't the biggest thing in the world yet, but it is a start. Only 7 1/2 months until the movie comes out.

New forum I joined:
<a href="http://www.killermovies.com/forums/f69/" target="_blank">Killer Movies Community Forums, Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise</a>
I'll link it on my main database. I can't create a thread on there until I post more on they for some reason. When I can, I will create a thread linking this thread to it. They got some news:

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->The rumor mill has it...from 3 different sources...

TRUE or FALSE???<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

This is all very interesting!

I pray that the Pearl doesn't sink, though a symbol of terror, it is, afterall, quite a beautiful ship.

Friends fight at times, this means they care for eachother.

Of course those bloody coins of Aztec gold get thrown back into the plot...

Wonder how the Flying Dutchman will look.... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

NORRINGTON TURNS PIRATE?!?!?! NNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!! WHY?! STAY THE COURSE MY GOOD MAN! FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, JUSTICE, AND DEFENT YOUR COUNTRY GALLANTLY!!! *Well, he WAS an ENGLISHMAN...* *cough* *mutters* English Buggers.... Still, Norrington is cool, AS A COMMODORE!

Somehow I don't really believe all those rumors. Norrington turning pirate would just be plain crazy. Also: I believe in the trailer, Jack actually <i>is</i> sailing the Pearl. There is also a different ship, but I believe that to be the ship Will, Elizabeth and the old Black Pearl pirate crew are sailing, with Jack sailing the actual Black Pearl with his crew from the ending of PotC 1.

I think that the rumor that bootstrap is part of davy jones crew,
Drowned, Davy Jones, there is a certain logica in it.

<u><b>Update</b></u>

Hey, not much going on in shooting on site, but there is some stuff going on with the ships. So far there is a total of 5 ships in the movies:
>Endeavor (Plain Ship, not sure what purpose yet)
>Chinese Junk (Chow Yun-Fat playing Chinese Pirate Cheung Po Tsai captains this ship, part of POTC 3)
>Black Pearl (Jack Sparrow's Ship, sinks in POTC 2?)
>Flying Dutchman (Davy Jones' ship, POTC 2 only?)
>Dauntless (From the first movie, British Navy Ship)

You can get some new pictures of the Flying Dutchman at:

Other than that, from the Johnny Depp Forums comes this news:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Masterfoods USA is betting a Pirates of the Caribbean tie-in and white chocolate will fend off a slew of new SKUs coming from Hershey.

The company rolled out a dark chocolate version of M&M's in conjunction with May's Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith from Fox. For 2006, it will flip to white chocolate through a tie-in with Disney's summer release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. The white chocolate M&M's, which will be dubbed Pirate Pearls and sport unique candy shell color blends, are planned to hit retail by June.

Creative from BBDO, New York, likely will showcase movie footage, and POP will dress the animated spokescharacters in pirate garb. A "Win the Treasure" on pack sweepstakes also will include sibling brands Starburst and Skittles. Twix, which also went dark chocolate this year, will be available in a limited edition white chocolate version starting in March.

White chocolate outpaced total chocolate growth by 20% during the first six months of 2005, per IRI. As such, Pirate Pearls have the potential of breaking into the permanent M&M's roster. The candy maker introduced bigger M&M's pieces during its 2003 Shrek 2 promotion, and the in-and-out Shrek Size begot Mega M&M's, which features dark chocolate among its outsized flavors. Spending for the effort was not disclosed. M&M's measured media expenditures were $32 million and $41 million during the respective theater runs of Shrek 2 and Sith, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Also on the Johnny Depp Forum is a excellent spoiler thread for movies 2 and 3 if you look under the POTC I, II, III forum.

<u><b>Update</b></u>

Looks like the filming is going to contine soon due to teh sets are getting already in the Bahamas. Take a look at <a href="http://www.the-bahama-islands.com/piratesofcaribbean.html" target="_blank">Bahama’s Vacation Guide website</a>. Also the name of the Chinese Junk in the movies is "Empress."

From <a href="http://orlandomultimedia.net/pirate/pirateupdate.html" target="_blank">Orlando Bloom Multimedia</a>, there is a short interview with Olrando Bloom for the sequal (From a Disney Channel interview) on a clip that you can download on the sight (click link above).

I also re-organized the links list at the begining of this thread and added on two more sights:
