Main Quest: Broken at Cozumel

Well, it only took 4 runs thru that folder to find that line. I hope I did it correctly. Anyhoo, I made to Cozumel! :drunk But, I appeared in the middle of a fleet that was just sitting there and was friendly. When I fired on them they did not react, but my rep plummeted. Finally one of them sank without trying to sail away. Then I quit the game.

Morys Dexter surrendered his ship to me and later became a good officer. He is Enc_Officer_4. Enc_Officer_1 is another one who surrendered his ship.

Danielle Greene stayed Danielle and not Fort!

So it doesn't crash anymore, right? But still, clearly something remains wrong.
Where are you up to in the storyline? I'm thinking it should be some quest coding that does this, but I'm not sure... :facepalm

Never mind; the console already told me where you are. :facepalm

This seems really quite confused. There's supposed to be NO random ships at Cozumel. Ever. Maybe that is where the problem comes from.
Despite the code saying there shouldn't be any, maybe another part of the code is working with random ships there anyway.
Now if there aren't any, maybe it'll go assume that the player is part of the random encounters. Or something.
In any case, it's really weird. Let me see if I can get a hold of someone who understands this better than I do. :facepalm

Did Silehard and his cronies show up at sea? If yes, were they hostile like they should be?
What is "Quest trader" doing at the islands? You're not doing an escort quest at the same time, are you???

One weird thing; the following functions are NEVER used ANYWHERE else!
Code:
			// PS gen chars and ships-->
SetUpShip(characterFromID("Isenbrandt Jurcksen"), "war", true);
SetUpShip(characterFromID("Brian The Slayer"), "war", true);
//SetUpShip(characterFromID("James Paige"), "war", true);
// KK -->
SetUpShip(characterFromID("Robert Christopher Silehard"), "war", true);
SetUpShip(characterFromID("Thomas Norton"), "war", true);
They're just here at the end of the standard storyline.

Well, it looks like you got pretty stirred up. The only ships I saw were the Sovereign and 4 pirate ships sitting together. They are supposed to be there, but fighting me. I sank the frigate. Is Jurcksen the captain of that ship?

I feel that this is the result of cumulative errors. Cozumel is not the only island that ctd's after some game time. In this game Eluethera is also gone. In a previous game Turks, St Martin, Antigua, Martinique, and Cozumel were all gone before I gave up and started over.

Oh, wait; you're telling me that there were only the ships there that were supposed to be, but they were friendly and wouldn't fight you?
But where did that Quest Trader come from? Because he IS in compile.log somehow.

Could you get me error logs for the other islands' mess-ups as well? I'd like to know if that's the same problem or something else.
If it is, my above change should've at least stopped the CTD from happening, but it's still not a full fix.

BTW: If you're using Notepad and are looking for a line, you can just press Ctrl+F and type in part of the line to find it straight away.

Could you post a save game, so I can follow up? I don't want to go through all the main quest :)

I will go to Cozumel to count ships and Eleuthera to see if it ctd's again when I leave here. From memory right now, there was the Sovereign, a Spanish fast galleon, a frigate, some kind of brig, and an English galleon there.

Here is the save I'm starting from. I had to 7zip it because it is too big.

Update:

At Cozumel it turns out my memory is ok. It is a tri-masted brig. No other ships were seen.

I then went to the Alice Town side of Eluethera and it ctd'd. These should be the logs from that. I started from the 7zipped save.

your save is incompatible to my build version - sorry :(

which build version do you have?

I'll play through the standard storyline anyway during the next week, so I'll have a look at this bug.

I'm using Build 14 patch 3 with most of the latest addons.

I am very curious to see if I am the only one with this problem.

Compile.log confirms that it IS the same problem as on Cozumel. I've heard other similar reports before as we..
I just wished I knew how this can happen and when it is triggered; basically anything consistent.

Sulan, in what way is that savegame incompatible? Does the Load menu say that?
Open PROGRAM\globals.c and decrease the value for this:
Code:
#define IS_SGV					14.868
That should allow you to load it, which might work properly.

I just sailed to Governor's Harbor, Eluethera successfully. This is a different profile in the same B14 install as the one that ctd's there and at Cozumel. Here are the logs. Perhaps there is some information to be found by comparing these to the others that do ctd. :shrug

Just for clarity, that last one was not a ctd. But it is running on the same install as the one that does ctd. I was hoping that the differences might shed some light on what is going wrong to make it ctd. :shrug

AH! Well, if it DIDN'T CTD, then that's another pointer in the direction of what we thought before,
since it doesn't have the log messages about the player or his officers being set as quest group ships. :facepalm

I am VERY happy to report that I was able to complete the Nathaniel Hawke storyline. :j2

Made it to Cozumel fine and sank the Sovereign. Did the Temple thing fine. Then captured the cursed Black Pearl. Things got a bit confused, with 2 scenes going at once, but it sorted itself out ok. Dropped off Clement and headed for Jamaica. Talked to Sir Henry Morgan and got the correct dialog. :mi :mi :mi

Thank you for all of your hard work people! :bow

Now to see about some side quests never completed.............. :nerbz

I also agree what he says...completed it myself. Taken over Sovereign with a nice Silehard dialogue and also captured Black Pearl.

Well but there are still some bugs I have noted and made it hard to pass this questline:

- Fort Attack: If you capture all ships, you won't be able to pass the day without a game crash. The only way to fix this is to sink all your captured ships or just sell them.
- Inca Artifact: Couldn't activate it when Black Pearl scene and ship itself appeared...I had to reload.
- Falais de Fleur...getting ship arrivement documents....game does not crash if you buy the documents from the guy in tavern...if you kill him, a game crash will be guaranteed
- Entering ships...cannot pass next lower deck. Had to change a specific game data and remove [" "] from it...i could hit F12 and continue then.
- Speaking Danielle during Cozumel travel triggers a bug..you cannot make it to the alcove. So, just try to avoid any conversation with her.
- After the new Goverment settled in Jamaica and gave Nathaniel the reward for Silehards death, England is still hostile towards Nath.
- When a thief robs me and I caugh him and persuade him to give my gold back, I just receive 1 gold. Seriously???
- Thief Knife and Sackbag is a very rare drop...I got it like in the end of the game. I had no use for them cus I had already over 2mil gold.
- Purchasing items with stat bonus (Sextant, +2 Sailing) trigger a bug after next loading. They do not provide bonus at all.
- If you allow more than 3 mutiny of your angry crew members during see map, game will just freeze.

thats all for now

Can you please post this on the bug tracker?

What game file did you have to edit where? Maybe we need to include that change in the next Patch?

What bug do the bonus items cause?

Knife and sandbag SHOULD be common and the supposed to be rare items are too common.
Maybe we need to swap some code there? :wacko:

When's the last time anyone tried to capture the Black Pearl? Can you do that now or does the movie still trigger during the ransack interface, causing the Black Pearl to always sink?
If so, I was thinking we could trigger the movie quest case afterwards on MapEnter (this also works in DirectSail mode, by the way).
